A finely crafted light lager produced with 100% premium German Pilsner malt, producing an easy drinking lager with a light refresing malt taste. In other words, a light beer with flavour!

Bottle shared by Steve, from the brewery. 341ml into a tulip.

Crystal clear pale gold, with a light white head. Only a thin collar retains, no retention and only the slightest suggestion of lacing. Nose has some grains, cooked veggies, and a bit of malt sweetness - generally odd and 'macro-light lager-esque,' certainly not inviting. Taste has some toasty graininess, cereals, more cooked veggies and a mineral or odd water chemistry thing going on. Some malt sweetness and a slight suggestion of some fruitiness. Thin body, low carbonation. Not very flavourful and certainly not all that desirable. Passable, but nothing I could see myself revisiting. Why did I type so many words for this?

473 mL can from TBS; best before Sept 30 2016 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a clear, sunny golden-yellow colour, with one finger of soapy, short-lived froth seated atop. It fizzles out before the 60-second mark, leaving behind a foamy collar and patchy cap. Yup... it looks like a pale lager. Doughy pale malts and grain husks on the nose, with hints of honey, grassy hay, pie crust and Corn Pops cereal.

A technically-sound light lager, but that doesn't mean it's going to inspire passionate approval from the BA set. It has a lightly sweet, doughy flavour - almost like sourdough at times, but mixed in with grainy malts and honey. Flash-in-the-pan grassy hops on the back end, but the profile reverts back to a subdued, grainy malt sweetness at the finish, lasting briefly into the aftertaste. Light in body, with rather low carbonation levels for this style - resulting in a rather watery, slick mouthfeel. Refreshing in its own way, but very forgettable.

Final Grade: 3.35, a mediocre B-. Stone Hammer Light comes as advertised - it's a light beer, and frankly that's about all there is to say about it. Like the majority of the competently-brewed "craft light lagers" that I've tried over the years, this one's grade benefits both from my strict to-style grading, as well as from my own reduced expectations - sure, it's boring, but if you lined it up next to Coors & Bud Light then it would absolutely be the preferred selection. Agreeable flavour, but it still lacks the crisp, refreshing feel that I associate with this style, so I can't give it top grades. Their pilsner is a better lager.

I'm generally not a fan of light beers, but this is one of the best light beers I've had.

Just uneventful. As you'd expect from a light beer, I guess. Nothing offensive, suitable for washing down a sandwich. Not in the same class as other beers from this brewer.

Picked up a bottle as part of the taster's pack which was purchased from LCBO for $10.25 CDN.

Appearance -Weak golden straw color, that is moderately hazy. Poured and impressive 2.5 finger frothy white head that actually had impressive retention time. Lots of sticky lacing left around the glass.

Smell - Some graininess and a light floral aroma. There's almost a hint of a sour aspect like cooked vegetables blended with pickle brine, that is a bit strange, although not detectable unless you're sniffing really hard.

Taste - Watery, light roasty graininess and the slightly sour aspect comes through here but it's not terribly offputting.

Mouthfeel - Thin and light bodied (as you'd expect in a light beer), Medium carbonation and a bit spritzy on the tongue.

Overall - Would I willingly buy this again? Probably not? And the other beer's in the taster's pack are so overwhelming that I would buy it again at it's price point. But, overall not a bad light beer, that I could seem appealing to some people. Definitely better than some of the dreck out there.

341ml Bottle from the Ottawa LCBO for 2$

Appearance - Clear light yellow colour with an average size fizzy white coloured head. There is an above average amount of carbonation showing and there is no lacing. The head lasted for 2-3 minutes.

Smell - Breads/grains, grassy/herbal, corn

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste corn mixed with some grainy/herbal notes. There is also a bit of a grassiness and it ends with a lightly herbal aftertaste.

Overall - You could do much worse in the light beer category. It has some light herbal flavours that keep it somewhat interesting. Not a bad choice if you're watching your calories.

Appearance: It has a semi-cloudy pale yellow color to it (very light color). It has a nice white head that dies down quite fast and leaves no lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitly give out hints of corn, grains and faint hops.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has sweet grains and corn along with some floral hops and a slight fruitiness.

Mouthfeel: It has a low/medium carbonation with a thin and watery overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with decent flavors and aromas considering what it is.

A - Pours a slightly hazy pale straw colour, finger of head with little retention and no lacing.

S - Sweet corn, bready malt, cane sugar and musty notes on the finish.

T - Sweet corn and bready malts dominate, wet cardboard and hints of rye linger on the tongue.

M - Medium, smooth and dry.

O - For a light beer it offers up more flavor than its competitors. I would certainly recommend this to anyone over a Coors Light or Bud Light. Again, for the style it's surprisingly tasty.

look: 1.5 | smell: 1.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 2 | overall: 2.5
Appearance: Why is this light lager cloudy? Why is there only a half a finger of head after a very aggressive pour? Why did it then immediately disappear? Why does the carbonation fizzle out so quickly in the body? All questions which answer why did you give that beer a 1.5 TheHammer?

Smell: ...Alright at this point I'm thinking the beer got infected with something. It got that musty battery acid smell to it that does not do the mild staw-like malt in the background justice. I'm being generous because I'm operating under that premise.

Taste: Surprisingly the beer fights though it as a mild malt gives way to a spritz lemon taste that reminds me of Fresca. Light dusting of hops and it comes out fair.

Mouthfeel: Yeah, there certainly is an acidic tone to this one that doesn't do for me. The carbonation also falls flat incredibly quick. Everything else is alright though.

Drinkability: It's pretty good, my biggest problem is the acidic notes which give me a little heartburn. Other then that it's surprisingly easy to drink.

Final Thoughts: I'm 85% certain this beer was infected or had storage issues. Given I got it from an OCB mix pack, I suppose it's not unreasonable to assume that something got lost on it's way from F&M to whoever manages these mix packs. It fared fairly well despite this though, but I am still giving it a low rating. Infection issues are something that the brewer and the general public should know about.

341 ml bottle-Pours a light gold sparkling body with a finger of white fizz. Active carbonation. Grainy nose with steamed veggies and a fruity 7-up like aroma. Sweet pale malt flavours are backed with grain, sweet fruity, almost apple juice like flavours. Light, watery finish. I really wouldn't want to drink too much of this one.

Bottle at The Rebel House. A light lunchtime session beer, with palish yellow colour and a little white head, that leaves some lace trail. A tad beerish aroma, and some malt. There is hop in the taste, but also corn. Mildly astringent. Lighter than average mouthfeel. Drinkable on a hot summer day, but even though could not finish it.
