X Ale was colloquially known as "Four Ale" in London because it cost 4d a pint. It was a mild ale, however, 2014 Past Masters has been made slightly stronger at 7.3% ABV. The same raw materials have been used: pale ale malt, Brewer’s invert syrup No3 and dark syrup to give the sugars for fermentation. The hops include Goldings and Fuggles from England, although they may have been sourced from Belgium in the original brew in 1914.

L:
-pours a slightly hazy red-brown with a small to medium, foamy, offwhite head
-low to medium carbonation visible
S:
-caramel,nutty,malty,plums,apricots (nothing popping out though)
T:
-Follows the nose + raisins and coffee
F:
-medium carbonation
-light to medium body
O:
Pretty similar to a decent German Maibock.
I expected a bit more from Fuller's.
I'd much rather get Fuller's 1845 or Golden Pride if i'm going for a Strong Ale.

Clear amber. Light frothy head.
Fruity aroma. Sweet malts and boozy.
Flavour compliments the smell. Balance is attempted but is not quite there. Diacetyl noted.
Methinks this is too strong for a mild ale.

R: Clear amber, tinged with gold
N: Sweet, soft malts, fruity, laid-back hops.
B: Full-bodied, buttery-sweet, hops just managing to hold back that sweetness, balancing it out with bitterness and fruit in the mid-palate.

Very interesting...... - a 1914 beer ....
Amber and clear, little lacing.
Aroma is full on Fullers malts. Very easy to tell.
Taste is quite sweet, a lot of syrup, maybe figs, hint orange peel, tinned mandarins.
Body is light for ABV unusually for Fullers.
Quite odd really..... Not sure if I would repeat or just tick.

Pours amber with a fading head.
Nose shows grassy hops, cereal, sweet honey and golden syrup notes.
Sweet flavours, more grassy notes, some metallic hints, honey, a bit of hay and cardboard.

I'm kinda conflicted on this beer. I've tried so many of Fullers offerings and spent some time at the brewery. I quite like the Past Masters Old Burton...and I felt it was more up Fullers alley than this one. The nose was fruit forward from the yeast as opposed to the malt and english hops you get in virtually every other Fullers beer. However, the yeast fruit esters seems off and flat. The flavor was better, more rounded, but I couldn't help feeling like they were going for a certain style flavor profile and falling short. I think it was a bit too sweet and could have used some more sugars in production to dry it out a wee bit more IMHO. The flavor expands as the beer warms, but still seems like a miss on the triple-style. Definatley not a bad beer, but not quite there.

The colour is pale brown/amber, the liquid is clear. The two finger head is compact and off-white, it sinks slowly leaving lots of lacing.

The smell is sweet and mild. Some bitter hops, dried fruits, lots of caramel and biscuits. Hints of clean alcohol.

The taste is very smooth. Caramel malt, hints of toffee and golden syrup. Some perfume. Clean mild bitterness. Medium body. Biscuits, dried apples and chemical alcohol in the aftertaste. The finish is dry and somewhat bitter with some wheat dough.

The carbonation is medium to strong, the small bubbles are long lived. The liquid is a bit sticky.

Smooth, yes, but also quite heavy and malty. Interesting, but more interesting than tasty.
