Appearance: Deep, dark brown color. If you aren't careful when pouring, the head can get out of control on this sucker. I could swear I had one bottle of this that it took 10 minutes for the fizz to go down enough that I could start drinking!
Smell: Smells toasty. Big dark malt presence. A little coffee or dark chocolate, too.
Taste: Roasted malts are big. A tad bit of chocolate. Leads to a slightly bitter aftertaste that lingers. Complex, if somewhat indistinct flavors going on, yet doesn't weigh you down.
Mouthfeel: On the thick side of medium-bodied. Kind of chewy. Relatively low carbonation gives it a nice smoothness.
Drinkability: Goes down easily for a porter, a few at a time would be possible.
Notes: I had a 4 oz. sample of this at a beerfest awhile back which really blew me away. It doesn't seem as amazing having a full bottle of it, but I can still see why it's a benchmark for English porters. I think my sample was from a nitro-can; I'll have to check this beer out in that format.

This is the best beer I've ever tasted. I love porters and Fuller's London Porter is the Porter all other Porter's want to live up to.
I know. You never want to say one beer is the best. You want to keep searching for the perfect beer. The fun is in the hunt. I'll say this is the Pest beer I've tasted so far. But just as I'm getting sick of the coffee and chocolate added flavoring, this one blends the tastes right without tasting like their just adding fake flavorings. Yes, you've got the tastes of chocolate and coffee and maybe a little dark honey or whatever, but what I really taste is a great heavy (as in rich), complex Porter without the heaving overpowering flavors added.
This Porter just blends the flavors together so they just flow over the palette to make a smooth, velvet flow of deliciousness.
