Dark caramel brown pour but ends up looking pitch black in the glass. Good cover of creamy beige head with some lacing.

Smells of roast malt, minerals, earthy hops, bittersweet chocolate, molasses, and caramel.

Perfectly-balanced in a way not many beers manage. Roast malt, molases, caramel, minerals, hints of cream and vanilla and finishing with earthy hops and drying cocoa. Really just expertly put together; I couldn't suggest even one thing be changed.

Fairly light body that somehow remains creamy and substantial. Light carbonation.

This is one of the most drinkable dark beers I've encountered; light and easy-drinking while not lacking in malt or complexity. It's easy to see why this is considered one of the all-time classic porters.

deep, dark, reddish brown that reveals this color only when backlit, otherwise it looks black as tar with a thin khaki head and minimum lacing.

Roasted malt, bittersweet cocoa, old coffee and a touch of smoke.

Mouthfeel: silky smooth

Taste: like the aroma; bittersweet chocolate, coffee and smoke what a toe curling smorgasbord!

Notes: This is fantastic beer with a rich deep flavor. So drinkable, so pleasurable.

Came out of a nitro can, It looks really good the head looks like coffee flavoured ice cream and it smells like a good esspresso. It is near pitch black in colour almost like a coffee. It tastes like dark chocolate and coffee. I taste hints of wine, a very bitter beer. A real robust body, that stays with you.

A must taste for any serious beer drinker.

Pours a rich opaque black body with a moderately sized creamy tan head.

Rich notes of chocolate and fruits rise out out of the glass alongside a bit of a roasted coffee character. Just a hint of biscuity grain in the background.

Roasted malts provide the taste with wonderful notes of milk chocolate and fresh coffee. Sweetness has a bit of a fruity character as well. Outside the roasted malts you are left with a bit of a malty grain note and a finish the touches a bit on the hops with some bitterness.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy but a bit thinner than expected. Overall, Fuller's London Porter might just be the archetype of the English Porter and certainly a must try for any beer lover.

Poured into a pint glass. The color is amberish black. There is a nice fluffy tan head.

The aroma is mild with malted coffee.

The taste starts out with coffee and chocolate. The bread crust malt flavor also shines here; creating a great balance.

This is light and drinkable. I prefer my porters American and hoppy, but one can't help but appreciate the balance between roasted malts and breaded malts. This is a top notch example of a porter.

From 10/29/11 notes. Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle into a tulip. Best by Feb 24 2012 on the bottle.

a - Pours a very dark brown color with two inches of tan head and moderate carbonation evident. Light lacing left on the glass.

s - Smells of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, light vanilla, and light caramel malts. Really nice nose.

t - Tastes of roasted malts, chocolate, light coffee, cream/vanilla, dark fruits. Again, pretty nice, with slight bitterness from the coffee.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation, pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall a really nice English porter. I really liked the nose and this is a great example of the style. easy to drink and available all over, I'd certainly pick this up again.

Fullers London Porter

I swear I’ve had this one, but wow I can’t recall.

Pours a typical porter dark but not deep black, far from, thick but not watery, and pours a brown head that’s nice, but dies with marginal lacing. This looks like many of the English porters I’ve seen so nothing special.

Chocolate, vanilla, caramel, coffee ,roasted malt…really enjoyable notes. A touch on the sweet vs roasted side but enjoyable.

This has some light hints of roasted coffee, chocolate malt, and finishing with some English hops….why do the English even have hops?

5.4% so I suppose it should be a bit weak, but man this is weak and watery. It could use the magic of a cask treatment or nitro tapping to up the body. Still has some carbonation and a bit of body so it doesn’t embarrass the style.

Appearance is dark brown to nearly black, with a long-lasting dark tan head. A generous amount of lacing adds to the visual experience. Cocoa and molasses scents were pleasant but a bit weak. This is a very chocolate-tasting beer; more so than any other I've had. Slight roasty and bready flavors are noticed as well. Quite rich and tasty.
