Presentation: 12 oz old Euro-style brown bottle with a best before date on the back label.
Appearance: Crystal clear tawny colour with a pasty thin off white lace which clings to the glass very well.
Smell: Mild hint of bread and grain, some malt sweetness and buttery caramel also ... and to add to the pleasure, a good measure of hops in the nose, it’s mild but pleasing.
Taste: Medium bodied with a smooth and layered texture from the carbonation and malty mouth feel. A good dose of bread and biscuit come forth from the malts as does a pinch of fruitiness and malt sweetness. Touch of buttery diacetyl lines up with the caramel and malt flavours. Hops are right on the mark with an ample biting bitterness and a rich lingering leafy earthy flavour. Finishes with a lingering hop and a fruity and buttery mix.
Notes: Indeed this brew goes down as one of the greatest ... bliss in a bottle. BTW this is Fuller's flagship brew. A true ale-drinkers ale. Up there in greatness with the ESB also.
