Not just the iconic ale of the capital, London Pride is an all-British affair that unites a nation of beer drinkers. It’s brewed with entirely home-grown hop varieties - Target for bittering and Northdown, Challenger and Goldings for aroma - but the soul of the beer is unquestionably in the malt.

Crystal malts combine with spring-harvested Pale Ale varieties Concerto and Propino, to give Pride its inimitable depth and balance.

This tawny-coloured premium ale borrows sweet raisin, biscuit and dried-fruit notes from the Crystal malt, while fresh, piney herbs emanate from the hops. Rich, smooth and elegant on the palate, it draws to a clean, satisfying finish with beautifully balanced bitterness.

4.1% ABV on cask, 4.7% ABV for bottles, cans and kegs.

A-A nice dark straw color. Super clear. Smooth and uniform white head covers the top of the glass. A thicker band around the sides. A nice tight beady head.

S-Not a strong scent. Fairly hard to pick up. What is there is earthy hops. Just enough malt to let you know its there. And always that clean smell that I get from all of Fullers products. Never any off scents or infections in there products.

T-Pleasent bitterness that backs off quickly. Fades into what reminds me of tortilla chips. Corn used in grain bill perhaps? It is pleasent though. Bitterness sustains in the swallow and after taste. Corn becomes more evident in between sips too and it is not bad.

M.F.-Smooth all in all. Not a lot of carbonation shining through. 4.5

D.-Wouldnt be hard to polish down a few of these. Flavor lacks depth. I imagine they pound these like Bud lights in Britain.

330 ml bottle poured into a nonic.
Best by 01 JUL 2024

L: Clear caramel brown, one finger off-white head, good retention, leaves lace, lively in the glass.
S: Quick hit of bready malt to open, berry-like fruity ale yeast esters, some mineral notes.
T: Malty but fairly dry, overall tangy woody flavorwith notes of bread and dried fruit, mildly bitter.
F: Light-ish body, clean feel, medium-high carbonation to start, softens to a more neutral feel as the CO2 dissipates.
O: Always a pleasure to drink.

On tap at Brampton Cross in London. Sweet pub. Listed as amber ale but it’s herby and low-grade bitter.

Very clear, amber in color. Nose has a metallic smell. Taste was nutty and caramel. On the backend the caramel flavor builds. Not much bitterness to speak of. Good beer.

Bottle, best by May 2024

A clear amber with a dense, off-white head with excellent retention and lacing. The nose is lovely, biscuit, floral, hoppy, toffee, caramel. The hops are nicely assertive, with earth, light lemon, leaf tea. The palate opens mildly bitter with earth, leaf tea, light honey and a nice malt character. Toffee, butterscotch, a little dark caramel. Don't, mineral finish with lingering hops. Lovely.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle.
Pours clear light brown with a thin white head , the smell is of SUPER biscuity malt and the taste follows on from this with a light hop flavour and almost nut like sweetness throughout and a very mild astringency . The mouthfeel is decent , very carbonated.
Overall, sweet and biscuity Anne very easy drinking. It doesn't do a lot but what it does do it does very well indeed .

I prompted ChatGPT for a biscuity beer and this is the first thing it spit back; I picked it up when I saw it in the big box store the other day. It was my first time trying this style and I appreciated the smart balance of malt and hops, although it's admittedly not the biscuit bomb I was hoping for. I could imagine this being a good cooking beer as well, between the darker color and the hop presence.

From cask at The Queens Larder in London. Another gorgeous hand pull at a great temperature. This is quite herbal, earthy, and a bit barny. So easy to drink. Proper!

On cask at The Royal Mile, Des Moines, IA; served in a nonic pint glass. Reddish-brown colored pour, with a beautiful creamy white head that left gorgeous lacing top to bottom. This could be the perfect table beer. Malty but mild and not too sweet, light caramel with bready notes, grassy and herbal overtones, lightly bitter, and smooth with a clean finish. English bitter on cask lives up to the hype. Outstanding beer!
