500ml bottle from the Richmond & Fanshawe LCBO in London, ON.
Pours a clear ruby hue with one finger of cream-coloured froth and strands of stringy lacing on the tulip glass. Solid appearance.
Smell is cherry, caramel, candy apple, barley, vinous red grape aroma, faint toastiness, perfume, hard water, alcohol, and floral-earthy hops (a little leafy and seadweed-like). Appetizing.
Taste follows the nose with juicy cherry, caramelized apple, and red grape upfront, toffee, fig, toasty-roasted malts, and orange jujube mid-palate, lightly floral undertone precedes an earthy, grassy, and lemony hop bitterness with fruity-medicinal liquor on the cough. So complex and delicious it makes me laugh.
Mouthfeel is lush and silky, fuller than medium-bodied, juicy-tangy middle, balanced British hop bitterness transitions to a drying finish with some warmth going down. A very rich palate that stops short of the syrupy viscosity you would expect from a barley wine.
Overall, Golden Pride is a delectable, nuanced cross between an English Strong Ale and barley wine. It packs all the flavours of the latter style with the drinkability of the former. Just a beauty of a beer; I hope the LCBO re-stocks this limited release so I can grab more bottles.

500 mL bottle poured into a straight sided glass.
Appearance - Deep golden body. Big off white head. Retains forever. Clings inside the glass.
Smell - Sweet smelling. Fruity and malty. Caramel and raisins, but it's a lighter fruitiness than other barleywines.
Taste - Pretty hoppy. Right up front. Sweet pale malts. Grapefruit hops. Fruity, caramelly, and sweet into the finish, which has a hop bite.
Mouthfeel - Sweet and medium heavy. Well carbonated.
Overall - Very flavorful, but pretty sweet.
