On-tap at Murphy's Pub in Champaign, IL -- often on special.
Pour is good enough. Little, but enough, head retention. Something about the redness seems artificial -- it almost looks dyed -- doesn't seem to be a color naturally arrived upon by brewing.
Virtually the same beer as Leine's Original. I'm reminded of The Simpson's episode at the Duff brewery where the taps for red, original, etc. all come out of the same giant vat. This is a little creamier.
The nose is very grainy; the tongue is much of the same. Clearly a corn/rice beer. The maltiness is medium (full as far as domestic lagers go); there is some body and texture to this brew that I can appreciate. Unfortunately, the trademark Leine's grain twang is too sharp to enjoy the body. There is some very subdued fruit and cream in the background. Mostly, this is a cereal beer and the strongest in flavor among all domestic macros. I can't drink this very often, but I'll take it over Original.
It's definetly not a dunkel.
Serving type: on-tap
