12 oz. bottle poured into a tumbler

A- Very deep amber. The red shows up more when held up to the light. Big bubbly head, a little tan, looks a little like a root beer float head, but quickly dissipates.

S- Aroma is very faint, but a little roast, and maybe some sweetness too. Caramel.

T- The beginning is not so bad, with a decent roasty flavor. Followed by some sweetness, but then a horrible metallic finish hangs on. Tastes like I cut my lip.

M- A bit of a creamy feel, which is what I assume they were going for. That metallic finish, though...

O- This is the most metallic tasting beer I've had. Without it, this would be a pretty good beer.

Ah , time to review an old Wisconsin stand by. Leinie’s creamy dark is one of the beers I loved to turn to back in college when I wanted something dark and thick but could only scrape together 4 bucks. Well, lucky for me 4 bucks plus pocket change could always score me a sixer of this puppy.

These days the price is up and so are my tastes and bankroll so I haven’t made it a point to drink this one too often but it’s still decent as a session beer, a starting dark beer, or when you’re stopping at a gasser in BFE Wisconsin and this is the only dark beer they sell. God bless leinie’s for that. Without Jacob L, about 800 gas stations in this state would be limited to serving AB and M. At least with Leinie’s we’ve got access to a decent dark, honey weiss, or red at just about every stop and rob across the state. Onto the review.

Appearance: Dark reddish brown. Light tan, thin head. A dime sized layer of head lingers.

Smell: Beer and chestnuts. Not much going on.

Taste: Bits of apple, chocolate, and dried apricot. Sweet malts.

Mouthfeel: Thinner than expected. Almost medium bodied. Sweet up front. The slightest bit bitter at the end.

Drinkability: Pretty darn good. Not filling in the slightest.

Notes: Try this one with strawberries and chocolate some time. Strawberries really improve this beer, and this beer those strawberries.

Nice, creamy russet pour with a tan head.

Toasty, grainy, German malt aroma with hints of caramel, roast, and earth.

Taste is similar to the smell, very German style, roasty and grainy up front with caramel hitting about midway and finishing dry. Not all that creamy in texture for the name.

Style-wise it's nice, but I wouldn't consider it a go-to.

The beer is a nice deep ruby color that looks pretty-much black in the glass, like a stout, but just a bit lighter and clearer. Two fingers of tan head reduced to less than a centemeter in a few minutes with decent lacing.

The smell is all malt and roasty, though overall the smell is not strong.

The taste is roasted malt aswell. The beer hits the tounge with a slight tinge of fleeting bitterness that quickly gives way to the malt taste which continues to intensify as long as it sits on the tounge. The mothfeel has a pleasing consistency, though somewhat flat.

This beer is super-smooth but still has an excellent bold flavor. I think this is a truly unique beer ata great price and a good session beer for the cooler months.

Okay, pours brown with a 1 inch cream colored head that lasts for at least a few minutes. This has very little smell at all. This tastes mostly like alcohol. There's no real creamy, caramel, malty taste at all. I wish I knew what they were aiming for here. The taste just isn't much of anything. Creamy isn't really a good adjective for this beer. I mean, yes..it's dark, yes...it's thicker than say your average AB pilsner but creamy?..no. I guess I could drink these but I'd sure rather have something with a little more flavor. Sorry.

This pours into a pint glass a sharp looking beer. Clear mahogany with ruby highlights, and a respectable two finger beige head. Lots of patchy lacing.

Subtle aroma features softly roasted malt notes of mild chocolate and spicy hops.

Mouthfeel is light medium with a solid carbonation. Smooth on the palate, but you have to use your imagination to call it creamy.

Taste is pretty good for a dark lager. Restrained malt presence serves up soft notes of chocolate and burnt caramel that meld with some spicy and earthy hops. Lager yeast and malt let you know what you have here.

Pretty good for style. I keep this on hand for guests who like dark lagers. It's also my favorite beer to steam brats in. Nicely drinkable.

12 ouncer sampled. w/o any freshness indication on the label/bottle. Pours dark maple syrup in color, off white head, disolving to a tiny bubble film. This left behind some middle of the road lacing. Ho hum so far. The nose highlighted some maple syrup and molasas. Flavor notes included some caramel and lighly roasted malts. Smooth mouthfeel, but a bit thin and watery. This is a decent, lower cost brew. Basically malty, w/o much of a hop presence. Dark beer with training wheels.

Appearance: light brown in color, 1/2 inch head, clear, moderate carbonation

Smell: roasted malt and coffee

Taste: roasted coffee, toasted malt, cream, and a touch of hops

Mouthfeel: sweet with a bitter backbone, light bodied, high carbonation

Drinkability: A winner from Leinenkugel, this a perfectly drinkable light beer. The coffee taste is pleasing and I love the multiple flavors in this beer. I could have two or three.

Has a nice appearance for a dark beer and has a faint aroma that doesn't overwhelm the senses.

Rich, creamy taste that is relatively smooth on the palate. Sits a little heavy in the stomach but not too much.

Overall a solid beer that I would recommend for others to try.

It poured nearly black with a thick caramel head. The aroma of malt was present, though not overwhelming. The flavor also contained a malty sweetness, but balanced well with the chocolate flavors present. I gave it a slightly lower mouthfeel because it was a bit thin. I enjoy this beer which can be found on sale quite reasonably some times.

Deep mahogany color with a light brown head of tight bubbles. The head sticks around for a bit. Light hop smell coupled with aroma of sweet, dark malt. Flavor is light sweet malt, with a lingering light molasses and brown sugar. Thin, oily lacing dots the inside of the glass. Not a ton of character, but tasty and pretty drinkable.
