"Lager with a unique blend of four barley malts, Cluster, Cascade and Mt. Hood hops." Brewed in the style of an Euro Dark Lager, reportedly available as a year round but appears most commonly in the winter months. My bottle was in the 2013 winter variety pack.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a pint glass. Served above 53º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a creamy tan head of a creamy frothed consistency. Body color is a deep brown with burgundy highlights. High clarity and plentiful carbonation. Retention is good and lacing is light and clingy, far above my expectations for the appearance of any Leinenkugel year-round beer. 4.25

(Smell) Medium roasted malts, moderately toasted crystal malt, hints of chocolate and light caramel syrup and a modest dash of cream. Aroma is nutty and subtly sweet, not too overdone. Hops provide a very slight earthy and herbal bitterness and balance. 4

(Taste) Bitter roasted malt and dry toast with an understated sweetness. The body is significantly lager-light, less dense and less sweet than the aroma anticipated. Some mellow acidity and cold coffee roast aside, there isn't much to comment on in the flavor of this beer, it's simple and not overly done. Hops are barely audible in the flavor in both flavor and bitterness, the little bitterness required to balance this out comes from earthy roast and the grain malt, and even that may go too far. Finishes nutty, grainy, quite dry, not unlike my expectations for the style. 3.25

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, dry, mildly chewy. Carbonation adds some light froth and soft crispness to the texture, creamy certainly doesn't spring to mind as a potential adjective to use because the body simply doesn't warrant it, with a light+ body for the style and a light/medium body overall, its a fairly drinkable lager, especially with a generally well-concealed alcohol, barring some graininess, which calls out these subtle imperfections. Balance is in favor of dry, earthy bitterness over sweetness. 3.5

(Overall) It's Leinenkugel, so don't expect to have your socks blown off, but considering Euro Darks aren't very easy to find in the States, this is about as representative of the style as you're going to get (Barring Guinness Black Lager, which I felt was worse). The roast and toasted grain notes aren't too overpowering, and in that I'm glad, because there's very little sweetness to accommodate such a body. Possibly one of the more roundly acceptable beers Leinenkugel brews but not overly fascinating regardless. 3.5

Poured from bottle into snifter. Deep brown, almost black in color. Off white creamy head, disappeared fast, medium lacing.

Smells of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, slight burnt sourdough bread.

Extremely thin, heavy carbonation up front on the tongue. Some sweetness in the middle but fades very fast...actually it's overwhelmed by the bitter coco and burnt toast flavors. A little warmth on the throat going down...some bitter cold coffee lingers in my mouth.

A little disappointed, with a name like Dark Creamy...well you get what I'm saying...dark yes, creamy not even close. Parts of this are ok...but it's not very balanced wth to much carbonation, bitterness and way to thin. I bought in a sample pack...would not buy in a sixer.

Poured into a mug: color is dark brown to near black, amber edges, head is tan, presents 1/2 inch thick, lingers well and leaves nice lacing.

Smell is biscuit, wheat, touch of chocolate, really feint roast.

Taste is less creamy than the aroma, mostly a subtle blend of roast and chocolate, subtle biscuit and wheat, maybe some lactose like sweetness, hops are lightly earthy, mostly bittering.

Mouthfeel is crisper than necessary and not what complimentary for a 'creamy' beer: crisp, over carbonated and too biting on the tongue.

Overall, a semi decent brew from Leinenkugel's, but lacking in certain qualities to qualify for a 'creamy' brew.
