I enjoyed a few of these at a spring training game in Tempe, AZ. The beer was surprisingly decent for a fruity beer. The beer obviously had an aroma of sweetened berries, a purplish color wih no head, a sweet finish and surprisingly good taste. No carbonation like I thought there would be, and no aftertaste. Overall a decent beer If you get a chance to try it, you will be surprised.

Reviewed from notes.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours a moderate caramelish color with maybe a hint of red. The nose is bright berries and a lot of sweetness. Cloying to start. The taste really gets in there with the sweetness and berry. Almost like beer juice. The feel is just too much with a lot of sugar. Way too much to drink more than a few ounces of; don't know how I did this in college.

Appearance: Has a dark gold color that is very cloudy with a very small head.

Smell: Strong raspberry/blackberry smell. Not bad, but such a strong fruit aroma concerns me a bit.

Taste: Well, the smell predicts the taste. It's very fruity and somewhat lambic-ish. It's not bad, but it's a bit sweet for my taste.

Mouthfeel: Pretty thin without being too watery.

Drinkability: It's okay, but it is just too sweet for me. The fruit flavors are very overpowering and it's just not something I could get again. I had one, and will probably only ever have one.

Well I unknowingly ordered this Berry Leiney, I was hoping it was just a wheat beer, but to my dismay it was riddled with berry flavor.

It looked good, soapy white head on a cloudy bright yellow liquid.

The aroma was faint and consisted of raspberries namely, some blackberry too.

The flavor was a major dissappointmet. Tastes like a blueberry/raspberry puree poured into a wheat beer. It is what it is. Finishes a bit sour and overly sweet. Lemony hop is out of place here.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied.

Drinkability rates low, cloyingly sweet, artificial berry taste, whats to like? I would reccommend this to a casual beer drinker, not a beer enthusiast who appreciates better beer.

Appearance: Pink, orange, purple, some weird blend of colors, with a decent head. Nice looking foam. Appearance isn't bad, just something out of the ordinary for beer.

Aroma: Berries are VERY strong in this. Fruity which was the intent, obviously

Taste: Rather syrupy and the berries are predominant. A little much, I'd say, a lambic might not be this syrupy. Not bad, though.

Mouthfeel: Light, kind of crisp, but not too much. Body isn't too heavy, but its not meant to be.

Drinkability: Fruity and light, so it would work out for many people who aren't too fond of the taste of beer. Its a beer for those who don't like beer. Does that job well. I'm not the target consumer for this style, but I wouldn't mind a couple.

We recently bought a keg of this because it was extremely cheap, decided to try it as getting Leinenkugel beer out here is quite rare.

A: This stuff looked like berry lemonade when being poured out of the keg. The head wasn't too bad, a nice bright white that lasted surprisingly well.

S: The smell was of well...berries and not much else. As my one friend said, it smells like cereal and beer.

T: My initial reaction to this was that it was very very sweet. Almost like drinking a "Hard" Lemonade. There is actually very little in this beer that made me think beer, the aftertaste was somewhat malty though to bring me back to the fact that indeed it was a beer.

M: All i can say for the mouth is that it is sugary, almost to the point of hurting one's teeth. The carbonation though was exactly what I like in a beer.

D: Overall this beer is quite easy to drink, and drink a fair amount of it, I wouldn't recommend more than one or two as the sugar really can catch up quickly.

I wasn't dissappointed with the beer, but I did figure it would be a little less fruity and sugary. As far as getting a keg to drink before a football game, it was not a wise decision.

s: strong rasberry aroma, followed by a nearly as strong floral aroma, hints of wheat and sugar.
t: raspbeerry soda, slight hints of hop bitterness and wheat
m: light bodied beer with average amount of carbonation in big bubbles

overall, this was a very sweet beer but that is to be expected i suppose

Berry Weiss gets across the board "ok" marks from me. I like a lot of fruity/vegetable style beers, and this one, while a bit artificial, still is decent.

Strange, off red/pink colour, modest head. Smell is sweet with some berry background.

The flavour is very sweet, sugary, with a somewhat artificial but not altogether unappealing berry flavour over the top. Not nearly as good as a real fruit lambic, but one shouldn't go to the Grand Ole Opry looking for an indie show either. It's not bad or particularly great.

Mouth and drinkability both about average. I think this stuff is easy to drink in small quantities, but a bit abrasive beyond a pint.

A- Pink. nuff said.

S- Sweat Halle Berry, Batman! Where do I turn in my man card?

T&M- Blackberry juice, tons of carbonation and only a tinge of beer bitterness on the backside. It is like they took HoneyWeiss and dumped in Juicy Juice. Creamy syrup yet thin and watery at the same time. I look at my "beer" and notice I need a manicure.

D- This just ended my evening of not drinking beer perfectly. First I drink the Fresca tasting Sunset Wheat then this. I guess you have to see how low you can go every once in awhile. Very wine-cooler/malt beverage like and I feel somehow diminished.

You call this beer? Pour is a brighter red color. Not really the color you expect from beer. The head of non-existent and no lacing to speak of.

The smell was poor over all. No malt or hops to speak of. A more wine cooler smell.

The taste is similar. Wine cooler wild berry taste. No really malt detection nor any hops. More of a sugary syrup with artificial tropical flavoring. The flavor itself is not bad but you cant call it beer.

The body was light. A tad watery and limited carbonation. Overall this is not a beer, it’s a wine cooler.

When you first pour this stuff its a very red color. It's appearance is a little strange, sort of like a light fizzy cranberry juice or something.
Smell was good, but nothing out standing.
As for the taste, very impressive. It is quite sweet (some might want to try cutting it down by mixing it with honey weiss if its too sweet for their taste,) however its still not nearly as sweet as most of the malted fruit-flavored beers. Although others have said so, I think it is certainly not like a wine cooler. It reminds me a bit of some of the sweeter red wines.
Overall an excellent beer. Quite refreshing compared to most beers, in my opinion.

Cloudy, reddish color with a medium tan head. Aroma is all berries but I can't really tell what berries are used. Maybe blackberries? Taste has more of that sweet berry juice flavor. Fine at first sip, sick by the time I'm midway through. I like a sweeter beer from time to time but this one needs more complexity and something to couterbalance the berries. Plus the berry flavor isn't really all that good. Tastes a little fake. Not a terrible beer and maybe refreshing after a workout in the hot summer heat, but so is kool aid.

Beer poured a nice colored red (definately not a traditional beer color, but nice looking anyway). Nice head on it, but didn't stay around long. The aroma was a wonderful berry aroma without a hint of any real beer aromas. Taste is almost sickeningly sweet, almost like a soda. Flavor of berry concentrate overpowers all other flavors, especially the wonderful flavors of a traditional weiss. Definately not a food beer as every food I ate with this beer, made it taste nasty.

It's your girlfriend's beer for when she can't get a Dewey Stevens. Looks like Champale when you pour it. Gotta admit it smells nice. But tastes like a wine cooler with a bit of malt in it. Sweetness is almost saccharine. It might be okay as a hot-weather cooler, but if this is all Miller can come up with in the fruit beer category, New Glarus has nothing to worry about.
On a second tasting, I had it straight out of the bottle to avoid the disturbing blue color. Even then, you get a vaguely Trix-flavored mess.

Simply ghastly. Poured a creepy pinkish color. The bottle noted blackberrys used in the brewing, but the aroma was more raspberry candy. Cloyingly sweet berry flavor. If there is beer beneath this onslaught of berry syrup, I can't find it. This is more like some malternative berry cooler than beer. I toughed it out through half the bottle, and decided life is to short to struggle on with finishing the beer.

Color is orangy lightish yellow, trying to be red, but thinning, fluffy loose head thats light greyish pink, fades and fizzes away pretty fast, leaves soapy, drippy lace. Smell is light of strawberry and raspberry with a wheaty touch and sharp tint of clean floral hops noted underneath. Taste is a weaker version of any decent fruit beer, light, crisp, lightly flavored of raspberry and strawbeery I guess, its hard to determine cuz its a little much and unmixed, very juice like but watered down quite a bit. Feel is lightly creamy but watery and a thin finish. Its a fine summer drink, but more then one of these and it could get tiresome. Give me a good hefe instead.

This is an amber beer that exhibits a pink tint. It pours with a creamy head and displays good retention. The aroma is similar to a wine cooler, heavy on the berries with maybe a touch of malt. The flavor is also wine coolerish, heavy on the berries as well. The finish is a little too sweet, but the mouthfeel is decent. I couldn't drink a lot of these, but it was a nice experience.

"Beer brewed with honey and flavored with blackberry juice and other natural berry flavors." Brewed in the style of a Weissbier with berry flavor added. One of Leinenkugel's year round beers and their most berry-laden option. This beer in particular seems to draw the greatest amount of ire from the craft beer community out of all of Leinenkugel's beer releases. Regularly available in bottles and on draft.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a pint glass. Served north of 50º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a pearly champagne-white head over a mildly hazy deep copper body with slight pink highlights. Carbonation is plentiful and excited. Retention is average, lacing is light and spotty. Despite being notably visually altered due to the berry addition, this isn't a bad-looking beer. 3.25

(Smell) Juicy mixed berry syrup up front and in-your-face. Mostly sweet with a little tartness, not quite as bad as extract, but almost definitely overdone for the average wheat beer connoisseur. The wheat backbone is considerably muddled following the berry aroma. Otherwise, this is a very one-dimensional aroma that doesn't pander to much beyond fans of incredibly fruity and cloyingly sweet alcoholic beverages. 3

(Taste) The taste delivers a lot more of the same- very heavy raspberry and blackberry flavor with just as much sweetness as predicted. The tartness does it very little justice, and the balance is far in favor of sweet, syrupy fruit extract. Wheat may simply be present here for body or texture, but it's really useless to single it out. Perhaps the most redeeming part in this beer is that it's clean, smooth and keeps fairly low on alcohol. It's going to be a case-by-case judgment on whether it's drinkable or not, but don't expect anything short of an incredibly sweet, fruit-syrup-forward beer. 2.75

(Mouthfeel) Smooth, slick with a moderate syrupy viscosity and a very mild tart dryness. Carbonation adds a brisk crispness. Body is medium/heavy for the style, and medium+ overall. Alcohol presence is very low, already low by percentage but hidden behind the berry assault even better than expected. 3

(Overall) I can't hate this beer, but find it less than ideal for what it is right now. I could realistically find it a much more ideal beer with consumers in general if it had a much less prevalent berry flavor and a beefed up wheat base. If wheat is the malt base, then a berry compliment would be enjoyable, but what this has going for it is way too far over the top. The last beer that I had that was remotely close to the intensity of this was Wild Blue but I think that this might still be slightly more enjoyable due to a more enjoyable mouthfeel, believe it or not. Is this rightfully one of Leinenkugel's lowest-rated beers? I could easily understand why. Recommended possibly only as fulfillment for those who thought that Sunset Wheat was too malty and not sweet/fruity enough. Otherwise, approach with extreme caution, or an entire box of saltine crackers. 3

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a hazy pinkish-purple color with a hint of an orange reddish color and a big billowy pink colored head. The fizzy head fades rather slowly over time as big carbonation bubbles pop within the head. Once the head fades away it leaves some rather nice foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is big and sweet. Right upon opening the bottle you can smell it. Its biggest aroma is that of a raspberry and blackberry smell. Mixed with these smells are some other berry notes of strawberry and even a little bit of current. A grain and wheaty aroma as well as a bit of yeast are there as well, giving the beer an overall very berry and slightly grainy smell overall.

Taste – The taste is hugely sweet with tons of sugary raspberry and strawberry. The flavors are mixed with a blackberry like sweetness as well as a bit of lemon and honey. There are some lighter wheat and malt flavors that develop more toward the middle and a very light herbal flavor that develops at the end. These malt and herbal flavors are very light overall however, being overshadowed by the sweet fruit flavors. Overall the brew is very cloying and due to the lighter malt base, the beer has, and leaves, a very wine cooler like flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a higher carbonation level. The higher carbonation is nice for the very sweet and fruity flavors of the brew, although a bit of a thinner body may have been more fitting for the sweet wine cooler characteristics of the beer.

Overall – From what I have tasted this is pretty much a wine cooler. If you want something very sweet and lower in alcohol this may be it, but if looking for something that tastes anything like a beer then you may want to stay away.

12oz bottle (best before Oct 21, 2013) served in a Shaker pint glass.

Appearance: Cloudy pink/orange (almost like a deep grapefruit) color. Thin white/lt. pink foam across the top. Some occasional strands of lacing here and there.

Smell: Blackberry, fruity, just a barest hint of grain under it all.

Taste: Fruit up front, in the middle, and at the back. If there is beer in here, it is well hidden. Fruit is blackberry with some citrus thrown in. Some hints of strawberry as well but I suspect that's one of the other berries in this beer. Quite sweet - approaching cloying.

Mouthfeel: Just right carbonation, but otherwise more like a juice in mouthfeel.

Overall / Drinkability: I got this an extra at a beer tasting. When this particular beer is mixed with Leinenkugel's summer shandy it is a very nice combo. By itself, I can see why others in the room thought this was a wine cooler. Fruity and the beer gets lost in it all. I finished this bottle, but I don't think I would go for another, although I'll give it a slight increase in rating due to it being refreshing. Which I suppose is the whole point behind a shandy or radler during the summer. That fruit serves as a pick-me-up when its hot out and you want something to drink, but not to get drunk. This works on the grounds of slaking thirst and it's not awful, but it's awfully sweet and once done, I'm good and have no interest in another.

I remember drinking this in college, thinking it would be an upgrade to the cheap crap I was drinking at the time. Boy, was I wrong. If you like the taste of Fruity Pebbles, this is the beer for you. Otherwise, I would steer clear of this one from Leiney's, as they have many other better options.

Berry Weiss. I already don't like the sound of that, but who am I to turn down a free beer? Pours a weird, off-shade of copper with a strange reddish hue to it, almost pink, but not quite there. The head grows big and foamy, but it's about as wispy as they come as it's gone within a minute, no lacing gets left behind.

The aroma is a splash of berries and sweetness; raspberry, blackberry, and some other kind of berries I'm sure (not really getting much strawberry, though). It's pretty artificial and "fake" smelling, like the aroma you'd expect from a candle or some kind of wall plug-in air freshener. But actually even a bit worse than those, since this has a somewhat chalky and medicinal character to it. Like crushed vitamins or something.

The flavor doesn't stray too far from the aroma - it's an awkward concoction of artificial berry juice, residual sweetness, and remnants of beer. Almost more akin to a wine cooler or a flavored malt liquor beverage, if it weren't for the wheat and yeast coated that gets left on the palate in the aftertaste. The strange chalkiness from the nose comes back to haunt the flavor a bit, too. Pretty sweet overall - not necessarily cloying, but it's not a desirable sweetness, either. Body is thin with a crisp mouth feel from the heavy dose of carbonation.

Yeah, this really isn't my thing. Glad that I tried it just so I know to steer absolutely clear of it next time. It's like a poor man's version of The Soft Parade by Shorts. I'll pass on this one next time.

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Acquired as part of the Leinenkugel's Summer Sampler pack. Expectations are fairly low for this one, since I haven't been a big fan of some of the other shandy / wine cooler type beers put out by Leinenkugel's, but I'm gonna give it a shot.

Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.

A - Pours a light bloody ruby color reminiscent of what grape juice concentrate with a little bit of alcohol mixed in would look like. Quarter inch of fizzing purple-pink suds disappears within seconds.

S - Smells of artificial "berry" flavor and grape juice concentrate. Seriously, this is like some Welch's grape juice with a tad bit of vodka or gin mixed in there. Smells like a medicinal lollipop that you give kids for a sore throat. Artificial grapes.

T - Carbonated, medicinal, artificial grape juice with a slight bit of sour funk to it. Not bad tasting or horrifying, but I'm not totally convinced that this is actually a beer. More along the lines of a berry version of Mike's Hard Lemonade. Also, this doesn't taste like actual berries at all. It tastes like the berry juice blend you buy and then later learn is mostly made of apple juice and grape juice. Doesn't taste as bad as the Leinenkugel's Lemon Berry Shandy did though.

M - Fruity, sugary, carbonated. Lightly bodied. Not much else to say.

Overall, a beer for the hot summer beach days. Beer? Is this a beer? I'm not so certain. It's more akin to an artificially flavored wine cooler, in my opinion. Highly drinkable 4.70% abv, I can definitely see a market for this, and I would drink it again, but this isn't real beer.
