I've been on an amber kick so I thought "what the hell?" I poured into a pint glass to little head that quickly receded. The smell was malty with some fruitiness. The taste was even worse than the Moe's Backroom Amber that I had two nights ago. I have to say that I am disappointed in this attempt at an amber.

A: Pours a slightly hazy honey color. The appearance of this beer is the best part of this beer.

S: Very unusual smell...grainy or metallic but not pleasant at all.

T: Some hops bitterness comes through especially in the back of the throat. Not much else in the taste except for a very unpleasant metallic after taste.

M: Not bad, Not great. Sort of thin and a lot of carbonation.

D: I really don't care for this beer! Makes me want to grab some chips or peanuts. Something to get that after taste out of my mouth. I've talked to a lot of my northern neighbors who really like their "Leinies" but I guess I am just not a fan.

I just can't resist the winter sampler packs... They shall be my downfall.

Really light color-- it's pretty gold with just a touch of "dark gold" color. Maybe it's just me, but I figured this Classic Amber would be a little, you know, amber.
White fizzy head... Streaming bubbles of carbonation in copious amounts. Nice legs, decent retention, but no lace left behind for more than a brief bit.

Smells bland. The nose is very subdued.
Some sweet malt... Little chalky finish. Hops are almost nonexistent, save for a touch of bitterness on the finish.

Way too overcarbonated. This is fizzier than a BMC lager. (and yes, I'm aware this technically qualifies as "a BMC lager," don't VE pedantic).

Overall-- choice between this beer and;
water-- I take water.
Bud lite-- I take the classic amber.

Pours a clean yellow to orange-ish color with an off white head. In the aroma, a sweet malt. In the taste, a sweeter malt and a bite gingerbread like. A small bite and a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a dry malt in the aftertaste. A sweet gingerbread malt to a dry end, eh!, really lacking any flavor.

This beer wins the "Clown Award" for funny taste. Why would I pay a premium price for a beer that tastes this bad? Rates very low on my scale. Avoid this one at all costs. Save your loot for a better beer. This is even worse than some of the big brewers mass-produced stuff.

Poured into a pint glass and it looks good. A light semi-transparent amber hue with a one finger head and a wee bit of lacing.

Smell was feint but matly.

The taste is what made me grade this beer so low. Now I have rated some of leinenliugal's beers higher than the average but not this one. I like amber beers but was not impressed with this at all. It has a very metallic taste that comes across as bad bitter, not to be confused with good bitter.

I'm a huge fan of amber lagers but I'll pass on this one.

Appearance- brown to amber red in color, little to no head with a moderate to low carbonation,

Smell- very weak nose with just not much being given off at all, slight grain and malt

Taste- Very disappointing flavor on this one, its just kind of a bland tasting lager here, almost slightly off on the finish with an odd metallic twinge, Slight grain and malt with a slight twinge of bitter hops on the finish, just not that great with something seeming slightly off

Mouthfeel- rather light crisp and low carbonated

Drinkability- Nothing I was even tempted to reach for again that night at the bar or anytime soon, of this style there are just so many beers better out there you will have to not search out this one again, maybe my tap was bad or something but just kinda of a let down beer

A: Poured a translucent orange with bronze hints. A mushroomy head, dull white in color, sits atop, moderately lasting while collapsing cleanly soon after with no visible lacing. Visible carbonation was faint. Found the coloring to be a tad off per style, more orangey then amber, really translucent in nature with a weak head doesn't leave much of an impression.

S: On the nose was cold steel and cold oranges. Very little or no hop aroma, was very clean and light. Once again lacked any hoppy or malt aroma and can not justify even an average rating here, falls well short and was unimpressive.

T: The flavor was tart with funky cold oranges and an dry orange candy sweetness. There is a bad sour finish, funky and musky in nature with a bittering wet lemon peel hopping. Falls way short of any expectations.

M: rough in texture, fizzy and light bodied. Overcarbonated and seltzer like.

D: Drinks like an adjunct amber with a bad, tart fizzy orange soda like quality with a weak, watery hop presence makes this a big pass. Only gets worse progressively while you drinking. Honestly found this to be a defamation of character against all American ambers. Better suited as a drain cleaner.

Lienenkugel's "Classic Amber" pours stunning golden amber from a 12 oz twist off cap brown glass bottle with a freshness date of 06229, or June, 22, 2009.

Head went to well over 2 fingers before dropping to a thin ring of foam with a freckle or two of foam here and there on the otherwise flat surface.

Nose is a damp citrus sour with just a hint of cardboard. Palate is a thin well bittered sour, with no malt sweetness, and of course, the bight of carbonation.

The first thing I did after trying this beer was to check out the date on the bottle. The date was good, the beer was not.

This beer came in a well sealed 12 pack from a refrigerated display at a grocery store that sells a lot of beer.

2 thumbs down for this one.

The aroma is not bad it's citrus hops, malt, and a mild nuttiness. The appearance is light amber with a medium head. The flavor on the other hand is astringent with a dry nutty finish. The palate is watery. A horrible beer. I would not recommend this to anyone for any reason.

This looked somewhat similiar (maybe a little less orange) in the pour to the Nugget Nectar I just finished off. Clearly this is where any and all analogous comparisons end. Granted, I'm only comparing the color, because the styles are the same in name alone. Malty caramel smell with a hint of sweetness. Kinda reminds me of a macro making a stab at something that looks the part, but won't offend the masses with too much taste. I'll not be buying this in the future.

pours a clear amber-orange with a small white head, and some lacing.

smell is of corn, grain, malt, and some caramel.

taste is of grain, a little skunky, and corn, ends somewhat dry.

overall it is not that great of an amber ale, more on the lager side.

Reviewed from session notes.

Appears as a standard clear amber color, has exactly the same fizzy non-head, no lacing, as all other Leinenkugel products I've tasted. Smell is very faint and nondescript...I get a vague sense of faded biscuit malt and some mild cooked corn. Tastes like a cross between the nuttiness of the Fireside Brown and a corn adjunct lager. Fizzy thin body just like a soda pop. This one only just barely manages to be a slightly better choice than a BMC.

12 oz. bottle,

A: Pours a light amber with a pallid white head, poor to fair retention, no lace.

S: Bit of caramel malt and definite burnt toast.

T: Very much the burnt toast aspect starts the beer, it isn't horrible, but it's not appealing. The more I drank the beer, the more I disliked this. What there is of the malt comes out midway through, some nice nuttiness, and a very basic bittering hop flavour finishing the beer.

M: Light-bodied, thin, this beer has the body of a macro lager, at least it's not overcarbonated. Fair.

D: In the same style as Yuengling, but it's nowhere near as good, but much more available. One of the few Leine's brands offered in CA. This beer is only marginally better than BMC, in fact I'd probably prefer a Coors Original over this.

I poured this 12 oz. bottle into a wheat glass.

A: clear amber color, the head is very thick after an aggressive pour, the cap and lacing are adequate.

S: bread-like, yeasty grain, a bit of herbal hop punch, and not much else. A very simple beer.

T: this beer seemed one-dimensional to me. The front is sweet grain and a bit of bread-like yeast, the middle is kind of woody, and the finish features a faint hop bitterness, but nothing too distinct.

M: light -bodied, watery, carbonation is abundant, perhaps cloyingly so.

D: I am glad I did not purchase this beer, but drank it at a friend's house!

Appearance - Light gold with a hint of red. Tall white head that dissipates quickly. Bubbly.

Smell - Very little to distinguish this from a macrolager - mostly sweet malt. Maybe a hint of toasted malt and a hint more prominent than a macrolager.

Taste - A bit more flavor here than the aroma might have indicated. Sweet malt is, indeed, most prominent. Slight toasted flavor and a hint of hops in the finish. Pretty one-note though.

Mouthfeel - Light, watery even. Well carbonated.

Drinkability - I can't think of a good reason to buy this again - it's pretty undistinguished.

I can't say my hopes were high going in on this one, Leinekugel hasn't impressed, but the hops listed have me a bit more interested.

Sadly the pour ends all hope I fear. Light light orange just way out of line for an Amber.

The nose doesn't show any signs of hops. Reminds me a good bit of an Oktoberfest in the nose, really?

I think there are hops in this one, but the caramel grain malt dominates.

Far better than I expected from this brewer, but both the marketing and the style claims are out of line. The final verdict always comes back to taste and while it is far from offensive, it isn't going to win too many people over. A bland beer from a bland brewer.

Appearance: medium carbonation, 1 inch head, clear, peachy amber

Smell: toasted malt--pretty one dimensional

Taste: caramel, toasted malt, and hops towards the end

Mouthfeel: smooth, medium-light body, dry, medium carbonation

Drinkability: I generally like Leinenkugel's beers. That being said I am kicking myself for buying a six of this as opposed to a single. The taste here is not overly strong and seems like their fireside nut brown minus the sweet flavor. For an amber this just doesn't stand out.

Drank out of a bottle at a state park in South Dakota. Color was caramel to reddish. Head and film/lacing - N/A.

Smelled just a tad bit better than skunky. Copper seemed to lead the way, followed by caramel.

Pretty average taste. Somewhat malty, but overall pretty weak.

Pretty average, the common theme of this beer. Highly carbonated.

Gave it a semi-gracious 2.5. I wouldn’t try it again on purpose.

Pours a light amber color, mildly roasty in the nose

flavor follows suit, mild burnt caramel notes, very mild indeed, some black liquorish, the beer is somewhat approachable due to the higher hop flavor than other cheap alternatives to amber.

It is well balanced there's just not much flavor going on

It is pretty well balanced just not much flavor to speak of, a basic example of this style

Poured from a 12 oz. glass in a Macado's Halloween-branded shaker pint.

Appearance: Pours a translucent golden-brownish color. The head is thin and fizzy and dissipates quickly leaving no lacing.

Smell: Faintly malty with a hint of grassiness.

Taste: Hoppy up front which faints to a sweet maltiness at the end. Kind of weak though.

Mouthfeel: Thin, watery, over-carbonated.

Drinkability: Weak on taste. Don't bother with this one.

Poker leftovers! Let's see what this has in store. Poured into a nonic pint glass, while I stole it from you when you weren't looking!

Off the pour, a white simple foamy head that barely makes two fingers. Settles to a decent puck, on top of a crystal clear bronze red body. Lots of cola carbonation stuck to the sides of the glass.

Nose is off. Stinky off putting malt of some sort, seriously sewer gas smelling, what in the heck is THAT? Sticky and stinky, not fun at all here. Borderline bile and stomach gas, not much else...

Upon taste we find, some malt and sweetness in the palate. A simple based malt body, but also some really fizzy mouthfeel and sharpness. Aftertaste has a sweetness but also carbon dioxide quality. Fizzyness takes away from the palate, giving a real club soda taste more than anything.

Overall, I have no desire to drink this again, there is really nothing going on here, except noticeable faults and problems. Drinkability is practically near zero for me.

Poured a 12oz bottle into a tulip. Date on bottle says May 27 13, but no idea if that's drink by, sell by, or made on. I'm pretty confident that it isn't the last one.

A- poured a medium clear amber with a creamier white head. Head didn't last long at all.

S- Nondescript. Some malty sweetness. Noted a metallic sharpness on one whiff but that went away.

T- Again, nothing overawing. Some mild malt sweetness and a slight bitterness. But nothing distinct you can place.

M- thinner and fizzy, although there is almost no carbonation so how they pull that off, I have no idea.

O- based on its initial appearance, this looks like it should be a better beer than it is. Nothing worth pursuing again.

12oz bottle from the summer mixed 12 pack. drank from a standard pint glass.

A- this one pours out a translucent pale amber colored body with a small bright white head on top. the head is quick to fade and leaves behind small spots of lacing.

S- very faint odor coming from this one. the first things i notice are toasted bready malts and a little bit of sweet caramel. a hint of nuttiness. earthy hops at the end.

T- the taste is pretty weak also. sweet caramel and toasted bread start this one off. a small amount of hard to distinguish fruits. theres an earthy/metallic finish.

M- light bodied and fizzy. theres a strange metallic aftertaste.

D- pretty unremarkable. this isnt one i could have too many of, and i dont think ill be going back for more anytime soon.

This beer pours a clear amber color with a one inch off white head. There is good head retention and no visible lacing at this point.

The aroma is basic. Smells like an adjunct lager. Pale bready malt and nothing else really.

The taste is basic as well. Again, pale bready malt and not much else.

The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, lightly carbonated, and silky smooth.

Overall it's an entry level beer. Definitely not a great American Amber and it has a lot of Adjunct Lager qualities. I find it more pallatable, but still very basic. I see this beer as a gateway and can appreciate it at that level.
