Appearance: Poured from the 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. The beer is a dark brown turning ruby when held directly in front of the light. My pour produced an off-white head about 1/2 inch in height. Head slowly faded to a ring around the glass that leaves minimal lacing.
Smell: Mostly malty aromas. Some lightly roasted caramel malt scent abounds from the glass.
Taste: Like the scent this one is malt-centric. Roasted malts with little to no hop taste, with the exception of a slight bitterness on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium in body with a lively prickly feel on the tongue. Low carbonation, but not too flat, definitely not bubbly and light (which is a good thing IMO).
Drinkability: Highly drinkable, sessionable "dark" beer. I purchased a 6 pack on sale at a local grocery store (Hy-Vee) for $3.99, which is really cheap for around here (regularly priced between $6.99 and $7.99). I would recommend giving this a try and would not hesitate to buy it again when I see it on sale.
