This bock is very smooth and drinkable. It lacks that strong carmel malt character I have come to know with bock beers. It is there in very small measure with 1888 Bock. At the pour I got a huge 3 finger head and great retention and lacing throughout. I did get a slight malty aroma at first then at first taste I detected a more fruity taste; almost ale-like. Whatever yeast was used they should keep using it as it adds this depth of flavor. As far as being true to style, as they say, this one misses the mark. It does have a nice lingering hop finish, however (Cluster according to the brewery). I really did like this beer based on sheer smoothness and drinkablity. Got this for $9.99 on sale, so it was a bargain to boot.
