I figured the Oktoberfest beer I could make my first would be from my favorite mainstream-brewer, Leinenkugel, and I wasn't disappointed. Not really knowing how an Oktoberfest beer is supposed to taste, I went in with no expectations, and came out with a great beer, full of pleasant caramel malt character and mildly bitter and refreshing crispness. Keep 'em coming, Leinie, and I'll keep drinking.

Picked this up on a mix and match sixer, even though I am unsure if I have ever enjoyed anything by Leinenkugel. Side poured with standard vigor into a Sam Adams glass.
Appearance - Pours a nice looking amber color with a one finger maybe smaller foamy head. The head dissipates about a quarter of the way into the beer and leaves little lacing. I like the packaging, pretty cool.
Smell - Malty, bready, spicy, what you expect from the style and even from the look of the beer. It just looks like a malty beer, and it smells like one too. Pretty sure theres gonna be malts on the palate as well, but I'm no rocket scientist.
Taste - I enjoyed the taste of this brew! Of course it was malty, but not overpoweringly sweet. Nice caramel touches and some breads. At the very back of the drink, hidden among all the malty goodness, is just a flavoring of hops. I think it may be a little better than we have given it credit for.
Mouthfeel - Finishes sweet, malty. Medium carbonation, medium bodied.
Overall - A decent brew. I wouldn't buy it again, but its worth a try. I think it is a little better than we have given it credit for here, but it isn't anything to really jump around about. Slightly above average.
