Picked up a 4 pack to try. Summer isn't technically over and it's been in the 80's this week so was thinking would work well with the warmer weather. (Why they are releasing this beer this later in the year is beyond me but anyway....)

Heavy pour into a SA perfect pint glass left a 2 in head that dissipated quickly. What was left as color goes was as as close to what resembles a watered down pink lemonade as it could get and exactly what to be expected.

First sip impressions immediately made me imagine what carbonated watery cool-aid would taste like. Slight lemon with a mix of artificial "berry" flavor. Taste left the mouth quickly and mouthfeel was light, almost dry with a slight bitter aftertaste.

Overall, I am a lenie's fan, like a fruit beer once in a while and like most of what they have been releasing which includes the Big Eddy series. This beer however falls off the grid and can't imagine how this made it past the test batch phase.

Appearance - Grapefruit juice color. Is that salmon? Cloudy. Tall soapy white head - just a touch of pink. Quickly dissipates.

Smell - Sweet lemon with a hint of berry.

Taste - Quite sweet. More berry in the start transitions to more lemon in the finish. Not clear to me what is the "berry" of the namesake. (Label claims blackberry.) Sweet but unobtrusive to the point of blandness.

Mouthfeel - Light and crisp. Highly carbonated.

Overall - I'm not surprised that there's a market for this. It's refreshing and inoffensive, but the pretension to beer seems unnecessary.

Gift from a coworker who heard I "like craft beer" and wanted to share. The thought is what counts.

Appearance: Drinking from the bottle due to Frankenstorm (Hurricane Sandy) limiting my ability to do dishes. Label indicates wheat, lemon, and TWO colors of berry.

Smell: First wiff made me think of lemon cough drops. The second did nothing to change that impression.

Taste: The name really says it all. Strong elements of sweet berry-candy flavor (think fruit-roll-ups or the like) paired with some tart lemon-candy flavor. The word "candy" is key, because there is almost no hint of real fruit flavors in any way. Same goes with the tastes normally associated with beer itself. I try to pick out something besides the candy flavors, but all I get is a slight bitterness with seemingly no source.

Mouthfeel: Thankfully not over carbonated. Thin and smooth, at least it feels good going down.

Overall: I would not suggest this to anyone. Fruit beer fans will not find anything here, and nor will anyone else I can imagine. That being said, my coworker will get my sincere thanks.

Nice orange color and somewhat hazy. Descent head on the pour with solid retention and a few lace blotches.

Smells like berries and lemons, sweet overall.

Can't taste the malt underneath the overly sweet and mildly tart blackberries and lemon. No hop character to speak of.

Light bodied. Well carbonated but the sugar makes it slick and sticky on the tongue.

As a refreshing summer drink, its ok but as a beer, well, I don't think I can call it beer at all. Tastes more like lemonade to me. I'll pass.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Reviewed live.

A- Finger and a half white head. Thick, but low retention. Light coppery color with very little clarity. Interesting looking beer.

S- Blackberries, raspberries, lemons. Smells like a pastry. Very sweet and fruity. No notes of hops or malts that I can detect though, which is unfortunate.

T- Berry flavors, lemon pledge and some caramel hops. Very fruity, no beer backbone to give it any umph. The syrupy flavors aren't helping.

M- Smooth, light and creamy. Not bad, but could be less syrupy.

O- Way too sweet for easy drinking.

Served in a shaker pint glass.

Morbid curiosity got the better of me here. This stuff pours a cloudy pink-ish topped by about a finger or so of off-white foam. The nose comprises Country Time lemonade mix, light vague berry, and a touch of bubblegum. The taste reverses things a bit, focusing on the fake berry flavor (coming across as stale Crunchberries with a slightly bolder flavor), though the lemonade mix doesn't go away. Things are just too fake-tasting: hell, there's even a general sense of mild plastic in the background! The body is a hefty light, with a moderate carbonation and an airy finish. Overall, a pretty sad beer, one that takes an already un-good beer and twists it with more artificiality and whatnot to make it even worse.

There is a time and a place for this beer. Warm weather, outdoor baseball game maybe. Inside, in December, on a Wednesday night, isn't helping it's cause any.

The strong artificial smell and taste of the lemons and berries remind me more of a wine cooler than a beer. The fake citrus nose and taste is the exact opposite of subtle.

The appearance actually peaked my interest, with it's cloudy rosy gold color and the carbonation is tiny, consistent and prevalent.

Overall, pick your spots to enjoy one of these beers. Like a picnic in the park, with your girlfriend, who uses a lot of hairspray. So if the wind should drop a hair in your beer, none the wiser.

O - this was ok, not something I would ever seek out. I like their orange shandy more than this one.

Was offered this by a buddy trying to clean out his fridge, poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Golden with a pink hue light thin white head

Smell: Skittles

Taste: Light beer with skittles in it or as Homer Simpson calls it "Skittlebrau"

Mouthfeel: Bubbly and thin

Overall: Tastes more like a "Mikes" malt beverage than beer. MIght be ok on a hot summer day on the lawnmower. Otherwise pass this one up.

12 fl oz aluminum can acquired as part of the Leinenkugel summer variety box (12 pack). "A crisp and refreshing shandy style beer perfect for any occasion." Reviewed as a radler. Label art is pretty good for the price point. 4.2% ABV confirmed. I don't see a best before/bottled on date. Expectations are below average given the brewery.

Served cold, straight from the fridge. Side-poured into an Oskar Blues pilsner glass with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated. Reviewed in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. I purchased it at the Ralph's grocery in Santa Monica.

A: Pours a seemingly overcarbonated four finger wide head of biege/murky pink colour. Okay creaminess. Fairly soft complexion. Okay thickness. Good (~6 minute) retention. No lacing as the head recedes.

Body colour is a murky dull grey-peach. It's as unevocative, dull, and noncommital as I've ever seen. What a terrible colour for a beer; I mean damn does it look bland. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Nontransparent; quasitranslucent.

Looks pretty shite, admittedly. I'm reserving judgment.

Sm: Fruit syrup - lemon zest, black currant, grape, cherry soda additive. Blackberry. Artificial and garbage. Fake lemon extract is dominant. Crystal malt, cancerous sugars, more off-putting syrup. Smells like an overly sweet candy intended for the seven year old demographic. No yeast character, hop notes, or alcohol is detectable. Not really a beer aroma, honestly. Moderate in strength.

T: Syrupy candy-like fruit syrups are rampant here: lemon, blackberry, grape, blackcurrant, raspberry, cherry. Bleh. Crystal malt. Residual sugars: sugarcane, white crystallized sugar, aspartame. No real hop character to speak of. No yeast character or alcohol comes through. Artificial. A light tartness is the most pleasant aspect of this brew. Poorly balanced and constructed; no complexity or subtlety here. Pretty garbage for a radler, but nevertheless strangely enjoyable for what it is so long as you don't expect it to be a beer.

Mf: Artificial, smooth, wet, and a touch fizzy. A biteen overcarbonated - but less so than most beers. Passable thickness. Okay presence on the palate for what it is. Not oily, harsh, or biting. Meh.

Dr: Downable but immediately forgettable. This will find its audience, but that audience is not the discerning beer drinker. It's far from great - even for a radler/shandy - but it does make for a decent sipping beverage to sneak into the movies to pair with greasy popcorn. It has its place, but I won't be returning to it if I have to pay for it. It's not awful, though many reviewers will attack it out of elitism. Truthfully, it's drinkable but unenjoyable as a beer.

12oz. bottle poured into a Flying Dog goblet

A: A hazy/cloudy pink beverage that appears like freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice.

S: Sweet smelling but only slightly acidic, with that yeastiness coming through.

T: You get this weird kind of fruit juice flavor, closely followed by that yeastiness that I have had in a lot of my beers lately. It tastes a bit like grapefruit juice at the beginning but that is.

M: Almost no carbonation to speak of. There is ever the tiniest bit of foamy bubbles at the end though.

O: Not good. Even though I had their Summer Shandy a few days ago, I can barely remember the taste, but I believe the other one tasted a bit better. I was intrigued by the style and how it would taste, but these have not been good. Get some Fentimans if you want to try out the style, even though it might not be heavy on the beer side.

Last beer out of a Leinenkugel Summer Shandy variety pack.

Cloudy with a faint reddish purple color to it. Tall purplish-white colored head forms and then disappears.

Smells strongly of berries and lemon and sugar. Smells like blackberry soda.

Starts out sweet with a strong berry flavor and a sour lemon finish. Faint beer flavor but this is mostly berry flavored.

Mouthfeel is soda.

Overall it is drinkable but is closer to soda than beer.

From 9/22/12 Tasting Notes

Sampled this with my brother. (Spoiler Alert) Thank the Lord, because I would not want a whole bottle. Poured from 12 oz bottle into a 8 oz glass. This was served well chilled.

A) This is a pinkish brew, fairly similar in color to their Berry Weiss. There was about a finger of foam, that appeared to have a pinkish tint to it. No lacing noted...

S) The aroma was more like their Shandy, which is kind of a lemon household cleaner. The berries were noted, but pretty faint compared to the lemon.

T) This is pretty sweet and artificial. The berries are more prominent in the flavor than on the nose. There was something medicinal, it was a little like my kid's berry flavored ibuprofen. I mean, this definitely is beer, or at least kind of beer, but the flavor didn't work for me.

M) Light and quite a bit of carbonation, but that is what this beer calls for.

O) I know my ratings for the Shandy and Berry Weiss are slightly higher than average, but this combo does not work for me personally. Having said that, I can also see how this offering may be quite appealing to others. As for mixing Leinenkugel's beers, I much prefer the Berry and Honey Weiss combo. Nothing wrong with a refreshing honey bear on the patio.

12 oz. bottle. Bought as part of the Leinenkugel's autumn sampler pack. This is the last beer out of the 4 that I'm reviewing tonight. Bottle says to enjoy by December 31, 2012 so I'm a little late, but I don't think it matters much. Uncapped and poured to a Boulevard tulip. *Shivers in fear*

A - Quick pour yields about a finger of bright white foam that disappears within seconds. Has the appearance of grapefruit juice mixed with a little bit of vodka, perhaps. It looks like the worst beer in the package, yet at the same time it looks like it might be the best.

S - As soon as I uncapped this beer, the artificial smell of lemon-berry furniture polish hit me in the face as the bottle let off smoke. Smells of tart, fresh lemons, I will give it credit for that. Throw a bunch of fresh fruit into this and say you made it from scratch.

T - Very tart and artificial tasting. Like someone mixed a bunch of Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy in with a gallon of blueberry and grape juice concentrate and added some everclear or vodka. Carbonated like hell, although I would definitely enjoy a few of these in the shade on a blistering summer's day.

M - It's got that tart fresh-squeezed pucker, but it is definitely not genuine. It's refreshing, yet at the same time it makes me cringe in terror at how artificial and mass-produced this beer is.

Beer? Is this even a beer? If you ask me, it's more akin to a variation of a wine cooler or a Mike's Hard Lemonade. Moderate 4.2% abv, this beer is still something I would drink when it's $5.99 for the sampler pack, but not something to seek out.

Appearance:
Hazy, grapefruit colored body. Thin, white ring for a head. Carbonation is practically nonexistent. Traces of lacing.

Aroma:
Cavity-inducing sweet! Aroma is purely lemonade... Sweet, sweet lemonade. Notes of blackberry tossed in for good measure.

Taste:
Leinenkugel didn't want to disappoint fans of their shandy products. To keep with this trend, this one is dominant lemonade. Blackberries liven up the party a bit, but the taste is super sweet and forgettable.

Mouthfeel:
Light to medium body. Respectable carbonation. No noticeable alcohol.

Overall:
How is this a beer? This is a spiked blackberry lemonade. To sweet to enjoy.

Appearance: rosy peach fuzz with a thin white head that leaves some lacing behind

Aroma: berry soda, more like strawberry-raspberry than blackberry, undertone of lemon, very fresh

Flavors: berry bowl, tart blackberry, a faint lemon note floats around, undertone of wheat … maybe. Add some more carbonation and you have a rose’ champagne.

Mouthfeel: mild-moderate carbonation, fresh and crisp, light lingering berry note – artificial like, the touch of lemon controls the sweetness.

To the Point: I was not looking forward to doing this beer but, I think I like it. As for a beer … forget it … it’s a berry cooler. I was planning to take a few sips and write a review and then hand it off to the wife to finish but, I think I’ll light up a cigar. Okay, halfway through I have had enough. It would have to be one hot day to finish this beer.

Poured from bottle gifted to me at the Missouri Western @ Northwest Missouri State football game yesterday. Best by 12/24/2012.

A: The color of a Ruby Red grapefruit with a nice, foamy white head. Fruit particulate of some ilk is floating in the glass, and the beer has a bit of a milky hue to it. Intriguing appearance.

S: Wheat, lemongrass, lime, a touch of berry, and a bit of soapiness.

T: Carbonated lemonade up front with blackberry and raspberry juice. A spritz of lime, a bit of wheat, and some rich malt. Very much like a wine cooler.

M: Very spritzy and carbonated, again like a wine cooler. A tangy bite of carbonation lingers on the tongue. No note of hops to speak of.

O: What looks intriguing falls off to what I have come to expect out of a "shandy," a spritzy, lemonade-based wine cooler. My buddy loves fruity wheat beers. I'm not a fan, but hey, it was free.

Poured into a tall pint glass, color is copper with some lighter reddish hues, head is off to bright white with some redness.

Smell is sugary sweet, syrupy, kinda like soda, notes of berries and lemon.

Taste is literally like soda, syrupy, sweet, lemons, berries, maybe a dash of malt or grains but hardly perceptible.

Mouthfeel is pretty good, not overly carbonated as soda, smoother finish than the strong syrupy notes would suggest.

Overall, does not taste like or smell like beer, I've not had a real radler in a while so this may just be a premixed, so i guess it meets its goal.

Pours clouded pink grapefruit-ish hued with a thin head that lasts. Some web-like lacing sticks.

The smell is of blackberry juice. Slightly tart.

The taste is of a blend of fruit juices, mostly notably, blackberry, raspberry and lemon. However, not the same way the real juices are - there is a plastic-like taste to it. A hint of tart keeps it from being as sweet as the fruit malt drinks, raising the score a tad for me. Still it is sweet.

The carbonation stays just under the "too fizzy" category. It is smooth - more from being watery than otherwise, though there is a malty touch to it.

Not a true shandy in my eyes, as there is a lack of "beer" qualities. Though, as stated above not sickly sweet as the fruit malt beverages. If you want a fruit juice brew, it's tolerable, I suppose. I raised the overall just a hair because it is what it is...(better than the berry weiss from what I remember).

So, here's a fruit beer. There is only one place that makes the best fruit beers I've had, otherwise in a bottle, they tend to underwhelm.

S: Huge lemon smell, natural lemon with a bit of orange and blackberry with a faint plum as well.

A: No head, small lace but sticky.

M: Tiny bitter. Watery. Slight citrus remainder.

T: This was a surprise. It was nothing like a fruit beer, and in fact, nothing like a beer at all. It wasn't a fruit punch either because it was not as sweet. In fact, this was rather enjoyable and I could see having this on a warm summer evening at a bonfire. Of course, I'd use it as an alternative to the occasional wine cooler...

Nice orange impression while sipping. Lemon was not assertive but was clean and present. There was a sweet wash and slight wheat texture. The sweetness is a bit artificial, like Pez candy but it didn't detract. It's the "hairy buffalo" flavor without the alcohol. I hate to rank it low, but this is BA...

O: Again, not really a beer. For what it is, refreshing and light, when you're NOT in the mood for a beer.

S: If I didn't first look at the color of this beer, I would have thought this smelled exactly like lemonade.
T: The taste has an equal mix of lemony and blackberry flavors.
M: It feels light-bodied and a little tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: There's nothing overly special about this beer, except for the fact that it is very easy to drink. It kind of reminds me of a radler in Germany.

12oz can poured into a pint glass.

A- The good: 1-finger pure white head, abundant carbonation, a bit of lacing.
The bad: an awful reddish color. Blackberry-lemon-wheat mix that had no appeal for me at all.

S- Berry sweetness with lemon on the side. The blackberry was strong enough to make me pause and double check to make sure it was really beer.

T- The berry is to strong for me, the lemon goes to waste in this offering. Not much else.

M- Syrupy sweet carbonation, blackberry soda-like.

O- Summer shandy I like, the orange shandy isn't bad either. This one's a mistake. My review is tempered a bit by my like for Leinie.

Leinenkugel’s Lemon Berry Shandy has a very thick, slightly tinted white head, a very hazy, pink-orange appearance, with a large, swirling, gray cloud of sediment descending, with lots of ascending bubble streams. There are some lacing rings left behind. The aroma is of lemon drink, and the flavor is of sugary, lemon drink, sourness, citrus juice, and white bread. Mouthfeel is mostly heavy. Leinenkugel’s Lemon Berry Shandy finishes juice dry, very sweet, and gulpable. Overall, for what it is- a fruit/beer concoction, it is very good. For beer over all, it is only average. It is just too sweet!

Poured into a pint glass, this beer is a slightly reddish/pinkish color, almost like grapefruit juice. The body looks nice, semi-hazy and topped off with a thick head that’s fluffy and bubbly but thins out and has some good lacing. The aroma is rather light and overwhelmingly lemony in composition, some light grasses come through but not much else. Mouth feel is very light and the flavor is pretty much like that of watered down pink lemonade. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a bad beer just one of those beers that would be very refreshing on a hot day after working outside.

S - Wow that smells sweet! Smells like berries and malt!

T - Just like the smell. Very sweet with an emphasis on berries, I could pick up just a hint of the lemon as well. I tasted like carbonated Kool-Aid to me!

M - Very light, thin beer with lots of carbonation

O - Not bad, but I wouldnt want more than one. Too sweet for me. Its not what I'm looking for when Im wanting to drink a beer, but for what they were trying to create probably spot on.
