2012 bottle poured into a "can" glass.

Appearance: Pours a cola-colored brown with very little khaki head from a 12 oz bottle into a can-shaped class. Some solid chunky brown lacing line the glass.

Smell: Chocolate up front, with some coffee and toffee, a bit of smoke as well. Surprisingly solid smelling porter.

Taste: Up front chocolate with a nice hint of bourbon, more flavor than expected at first sip. Finishes with some bitter coffee and a bit of vanilla, some more bourbon burn as well.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full-bodied with an apparent alcohol note. More of a taste of bourbon than a burn but this feels a bit heavier than the 8.5%. Solid creaminess but a sipper for sure.

Overall: Wow, is this really Leinenkugel? This is a pretty solid Baltic Porter, with some age on it. I would drink this again for sure. Only my second of the Big Eddy Series (after the Imperial IPA) but I think I need to try more. Worth a shot.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 9/5/2013. Pours crystal clear very dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of caramel, toast, toffee, chocolate, brown bread, molasses, raisin, prune, nuttiness, light roast, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of dark malt notes with moderate fruitiness; and good strength. Taste of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, chocolate, brown bread, raisin, prune, light roast, nuttiness, and toasted earthiness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, chocolate, brown bread, dark fruit, nuttiness, light roast, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of dark/toasted malt flavors with moderate fruitiness; and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Baltic porter. All around nice balance and complexity of dark/toasted malt flavors with moderate fruitiness; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Single bottle from Merchant's Fine Wine in Dearborn, Mi. Curious to see what Leinenkugel will do with the style.

Poured into a small tulip. Dark chestnut brew with ruby highlights, a half inch of light tan foam, which dissolves into a thin ring. A few flecks of lacing.

Nose is quite nice, with dark fruits, brown sugar, caramel, coffee. DDefinitely smells like a Baltic porter.

Decent porter that has most of the usual suspects in terms of the style. Slightly burnt sugar, coffee, fruit, and a mild port quality. Not as much depth as I'd hoped for, but the brew tastes quite nice.

Thinner bodied, mild carbonation.

Good Baltic porter, but nothing out of the ordinary for the style. Still, a good beer for a surprisingly cool summer evening.
