Pours dark brown with red highlights. Slight ring of foam, no lace.
Vanilla in the nose, some sweet cream. That's it? What the hell?
A bit more vindication in the flavor. Some ok roasted malt that has a nuttiness that I like a lot. The dark roasted malt doesn't get rich enough. but you don't get any watery, sour edge. It is lean, but not flawed.Finishes lightly bitter with a slight charred note and a kiss of artificial vanilla at the end. A bit weak in areas that should shine, and some surprises in other areas.
Thin, almost watery brew.
Given this one by a friend to try. Not a Leinie fan in general, and I'd say that this is one of their best. The vanilla is cheap and artificial, but the other flavors are pleasant. There are plenty of reasons not to buy this in bulk, but not a horrific beer. I would tire of it after a few, but it is overall ok.
