I've tested over a dozen porters. This is the best hands down...

This has a sweet taste, but not too sweet. Doesn't have a bitter ash trey taste like some porters and goes down smooth. The consistency between the bottle and the tap is very close as well. (255 characters)

What is not to like. The vanilla is not over-powering, the color is spectacular and the taste can't be beat. Tonight I am going to be drinking a lot of this one! Anything Leinenkugel's makes is going to be awesome and this is no exception. I wish I was drinking this right now! (277 characters)

Best beer I have had in a long time as good as yingling black and tan but with a vanilla hint and great price 7.99 to 8.99 I first tried it on tap and was very pleased from BWW bufflo wild wings after that I looked all over town to find it in the stores but only one place had it left end of season and man was it good on ice for one hour outside in the snow and went down nice and quick (387 characters)

This porter is one of my recent taste tests that really scored big. I usually don't like dark beers but have recently started to broaden my beer knowledge and tasting experience.

The beer has a dark cola like appearance when poured into a glass with a decent tan colored head. The smell has a coffee and chocolate blend. I don't smell the vanilla but it does come out in the taste.

I admit to not liking a beer with a hoppy taste. This is probably why I do like this beer, more flavor from malts and chocolate with a hint of vanilla. It is very smooth and easy to relax and drink. (584 characters)

No head, deep, clear amber in color, very inviting. A flavored coffee with cream (which I love) aroma.
It has a rich, savory taste and strong coffee sort of hickory-vanilla smokey after taste. Has a slightly carbonated feeling in the mouth, smokey, smooth, with lots of body. Well bodied, taste keeps improving as the beer warms in the glass.

Tastes best from a rounded beer 'glass'.

I hope this beer is not going to be seasonal. It will be very missed if that is the case! (475 characters)

I had the chance to try this on tap a few nights ago, and it was excellent. The combination of sweetness and just the faintest bitter taste was worth every drop. (161 characters)

Pours a clear medium-dark brown with large tan head which dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma is initially vanilla that fades into a pleasant roasted malt with strong cocoa notes. Taste is vanilla, and sweet Mexican chocolate, very mild and smooth drinking. Aftertaste is like a store-bought chocolate cookie. Not an intense beer; very mellow and pleasant on the palate.

I had a case of this in my cooler at a neighborhood BBQ and it disappeared quickly. (452 characters)

poured bottle into stout glass

A- A nice dark porter with a reddish hue as light reflects and refracts through it. A brief light tan head appears and fades to a small island about the size of a quarter that floats in the center of my glass

S- A nice warm roasty smell with some aromas of vanilla. Just as expected. A little bit of a fruit smell. Perhaps plum? Not hoppy or over the top.

T- Some chocolate roasted malts and a hint of vanilla. Virtually no hops in the taste. I'm not a java head when it comes to beers so this is right up my alley as the roasted malt and coffee flavors are subdued and not very evident. This is a very good beer from the Leinenkugel's!

M- Rich, smooth, creamy medium bodied porter that is as easy to drink as an AAL, but with all the great flavors of a good dark ale.

O- I had this on tap at Bomber's Burritos in Schenectady last year and it paired well with my dinner. It was also good enough fro me to remember a year later as I saw this out and grabbed a bottle to refresh my memory. This is one of the best porters I have had. It is well balanced and easy to drink. It's low ABV makes it a great session ale and at around 15 bucks for a 12 pack, it's a steal! Try this beer if you like smooth, easy drinking stouts and porters. (1,268 characters)

This beer is underrated. Reviewers will bash it because it is from Leinenkugel (owned by miller) and because it has the word vanilla in the name.

This beer has a great roasted taste with just enough vanilla. Extremely smooth and easy to drink. Light to medium bodied which is what I really enjoy. There is no reason for this beer to be a charcoal dry, high gravity bomb. But thats what people want to see in order to give a good review. Shouldnt review like that. You should be reviewing it for what it is - a mild american porter with vanilla added. In that case, this is an excellent example.

Nice job miller (613 characters)

Drank this straight out of the bottle. The smell of the beer is very soft and faint almost non existent. However that being said the taste more than makes up for it. This beer has such a great balance of malts and the sweetness of the vanilla. There is little no no bitterness and is unlike any other porter i have ever had. I really enjoyed this one and would definitely recommend it. (385 characters)

It's nice looking. A bit light for my liking, think dark cola. But the head is an attractive shade of dark beige and lasts a good while. A finger and a half thick at the beginning eventually winds down to a thin cover, leaving a decent lace.

Mostly malt in the nose. As the bottle suggests, there's a splash of vanilla and coffee, but both are fairly repressed and play backup roles. As it warms, the chocolate finally comes through.

The taste is pretty special. The vanilla and coffee both are more aggressive. A combination of chocolate and caramel malt round out the taste.

Sweet and creamy, a modicum of bitter for balance. Smooth. Only more alcohol and thickness would increase the score.

This is a really good beer, especially in the cooler months. Overall, a porter than can stand up with almost any other I've had, and generally cheaper. (850 characters)

This is one of the better porters I have had at this price range. Definitely something I would buy again. That said there are better ones out there. The only complaint I would have is that it has a bit of an aftertaste. (219 characters)

Black with a off white head
mouthfeel is sweet and heavy
flavor is very malty with a nice vanilla aftertaste
overall it is a great effort in Leiny's stable of flavored beers. It is a good representation of porter style. Not an everyday beer but it is something I make a point to have a few of every winter. (307 characters)

Very nice Beer!

Beer has a great dark color and a sweet smoked smell with a hint of vanilla.

Taste is nice and smooth with hints of the smoke and vanilla.

This Porter is sweet and is a great change up to its robust Portar brothers during the winter. (254 characters)

This may give you an indication of the depth of the backlog of The CANQuest (TM): the bottom of the CAN is dtd 11 Feb 2013! It almost made it to its birthday, Wow! My thanks (and apologies for the delay) go out to Another6Pack (A6P) for providing this and several others in a package that I have yet to reciprocate upon. I am good for it and I am CANsidering what to send him in the very near future.

From the CAN: "The Pride of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin Since 1867."; "Porter With Vanilla"; "Carefully Brewed By the Leinenkugel Family For Five Generations"; "The Flavors of Winter, Complex Malt Character Reveals Layers of Coffee and Cocoa."

I am still reeling from having de boom lowered on me, but The CANQuest (TM) must Glug on! The Crack! was loud enough to sound Reveille throughout the house and once everyone had heaved out and triced up, it was time for an inverted Glug. The dark beers really cry out for this as the pseudo-cascade is much more evident in them. It settled into a dense, two-finger cap of light-brown head with great retention. Color was a deep-brown with garnet/ruby highlights (SRM = > 37, < 44) and it was as beautiful a beer as I have seen in a while. Nose smelled of vanilla, coffee and chocolate and I may have had this in a different, hotter form at Starbucks at some point. Just sayin' ... Mouthfeel was pretty full for a porter and the vanilla and chocolate were prevalent initially, giving 'way to the coffee roastiness. I was happy to note that they reigned in the roasted malts as this could have been way too bitter. Instead, the flavors meshed nicely to provide a pleasant, but not overpowering, sweetness to the melange. I even enjoyed the relatively sweet finish although, as a self-avowed hophead, this is not my usual cuppa tea. Truth in advertising at its finest. (1,816 characters)

I'm sitting down to watch the Mummy with some ramen noodles and one of these bad boys.
Apperently heaven smiled down upon Jacob Leinenkugel during the crafting of this porter. It is very thick and dark, and the vanilla is present but not overpowering. It doesn't complement ramen well, but that is to be expected. (314 characters)

Good winter porter, has lots of flavor, and you smell the vanilla without it overpowering the rest of the beer. This beer is definitely not for everyone (152 characters)

This wasa 12 oz bottle poured into a snifter.

This pours a dark brown/black with a slight head with tiny bubbles and low retention and almost no lacing. It smells a metallic with a little hint of vanilla and booze. It has a very pleasant taste that is well balanced. The body is a little thin but then again it is a porter and not a stout so with that said it is pretty good with good carbonation. I prefer breckinridge vanilla porter over this but it is still a good beer. I found it at $12.99 a 12 pack and I feel that it is a great deal for the quality of beer that it is. (577 characters)

I tried the Leinie's Snowdrift Vanilla Porter at a local BW3. The beer poured a clear dark amber with thin almost non-existent head that did not lace. The smell is a good vanilla with sweet malt. The taste follows the smell....very nice vanilla. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with decent carbonation. Overall it was a very easy drinking porter. (347 characters)

12oz longneck bottle
A) Pours with a finger thick tan head. Settles slowly leaving a tight lacing at the edge of the glass. Nearly opaque, dark mahogany colored body.
S) Roasted coffee. Vanilla beans.
T) Roasted grains. Coffee. Hints of chocolate. Bready.
M) Full body. Fizzy. Slightly dry a bit chalky.
O) A tasty porter. I'd have another. (340 characters)

Leinenkugel's Snowdrift Vanilla Porter brewed by Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company, with an ABV of 6.0% This brew pours out dark brown color with a nice off white head. Snowdrift Vanilla Porter has the look of cola, not saying that's a bad thing. The smell is rich with malts and grains. You also pick up on a hit of vanilla. Now for the taste, it is bold with flavor. You also pick up on tossed malts and grains. There is also a mild vanilla sweetness at the end. Leinenkugel's Snowdrift Vanilla Porter has a lot going on. The mouthfeel is bold but smooth. There is nothing overpowering in this brew, it has a nice balance to it. Overall I'm giving Leinenkugel's Snowdrift Vanilla Porter a 4 out 5. Nothing bad about this brew. I would buy this brew again. Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company did a nice job with this brew. (833 characters)

Leinenkugel's Snowdrift Vanilla Porter - Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company. Poured from the bottle into a glass, this brew's head is 1/2 finger thick and lumpier soapy carbonation , minimal lacing, and a very dark blackish brown body. I wish this had more depth of lacing.

I smell very richly roasted and caramelized malts. Not very much vanilla in the scent category. None, really.

The taste is mostly more of a traditional porter, with the vanilla taste simply making a guest appearance towards the end. And, yes, I can taste the orange flavor. This would be great without all of these other unnecessary tastes in the mix.

This particular mouthfeel is not thick or chewy by any standards. I like that, along with not having a lingering aftertaste.

Overall, I'll give a 4 for Leinenkugel's Snowdrift Vanilla Porter - Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company. This, again, would have been just fine, if not, better with the basic techniques. I probably won't get this again (989 characters)

Sampled last night on 12/23/13. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a brandy snifter.

Pours a very dark brown in color that you can barely even see through. About a 1-finger beige head that left some lacing when sipped. The aroma is of cocoa, and vanilla with a hint of caramel. Very smooth taste of vanilla & chocolate stands out and goes down very easily. (392 characters)

12 oz. bottle poured into a stout glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep black with a minimal off-white head that recedes quickly. Lacing is pretty minimal.

Aromas: Smells of coffee, dark chocolate, hops, roasted malt, and some vanilla. It's not a vanilla bomb, which is probably a good thing. Relatively subtle vanilla makes itself present, and lets you know it's going to be a unique porter.

Taste: Pretty tasty porter with a taste that follows the nose. Vanilla is, again, subdued but there. Coffee notes are pretty forward.

Mouthfeel: A smooth but sturdy porter. It looks stout-like but has more of a medium body.

Overall: This is an enjoyable porter and I'm glad I tried it. Would have another. Don't be scared off by the vanilla - but also don't expect it to be a dominant flavor. (784 characters)
