Pours a brilliant champagne with a foamy one inch ivory head that quickly dissipates, leaving minimal spotty lacing.

Grain, cracker-like pilsner malt, lightly perfumey hops, and a touch of citrus form the aroma. Rye lingers in the background, but there's initially an off scent reminiscent of halitosis or body odor that disappears eventually.

Grain, toasted, bready malt, and a bit of sourness form the flavor. The rye adds a peppery bitterness at the finish. Fairly bready overall.

Body is on the light side, with fairly high carbonation lifting the flavor from the tongue quickly.

More malt character than expected. I'm guessing the tangy flavor comes from the yeast. That off aroma, though is pretty nasty.

You would think the people rating beers on a site like beer advocate would know how to rate beer. It seems like a lot of people think they are drinking something other than a Kolsch style beer or they just plain don't know anything about the style. A beer that Won a Gold Medal at the World Beer Championships should be ranked a lot higher. Goes to show you can't trust the People rating on this site or any site. Your better off forming your own opinion. My opinion: This is a great Kolsch Style Beer! If you like the style you will like this beer. Perfect for summer!

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Yellow with a thin white head. Mild lacing on the glass and a lot of carbonation.

Smell: Hops, Rye, some wheat and malt as well. Bit of a skunked smell for a "fresh" beer.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth light bodied. Taste of bitter hops and rye. Mild wheat.

Overall: Ok brew. Not my first choice.

Clear yellow colored beer with a small white colored head.

Smells mildly of noble hops and not much else. Slightly sweet smelling.

Starts out mildly sweet with a little scorched sugar taste. Stays sweet with no real bitterness. And that's it.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Overall, not a great beer but it is drinkable.

12 oz bottle into a teku.

Appearance: Pours a beautifully clear straw color. The head is two fingers high and white in shade. I really like the head's creaminess factor, and retention isn't half-bad (for a macro). A small ring of lacing sticks to the glass. (4)

Smell: I get some noble hops, backed by touches of cereal grain and crackery malt. The feature I really like in a kolsch is that estery, white wine quality - at first, I don't pick that up at all. It appears after opening up, albeit only gently. This one smells a bit rough around the edges to me, nor do I pick up any rye. (2.75)

Taste: It starts off very corny - it's style appropriate in smaller doses, but here it's almost overwhelming. A touch of fruit esters appears in the midtaste (think apple and white grape), while the finish has the mildest hint of noble hops. And boy, are they ever mild. The rye malt is really hard to find...nope, still haven't found them yet. Not feeling this one, sadly. (2.5)

Mouthfeel: This has a bit too much bulk on the palate for me. It starts off sweet, but it does dry out decently on the finish. Carbonation is powerful, helping to cleanse the palate decently. No complaints here. (3.25)

Overall: I didn't particularly have high hopes for this. In that regard, it lives up to the hype. A ho-hum kolsch with too much adjunct presence, and that's all there is to it. (2.5)

2.73/5: There's a hole in our damn canoe, Charlie
