Leinenkugel's Canoe Paddler 6pk bottles $8.99(OH)

12 oz twist off brown bottle poured into a stemless white wine glass. freshness date marked in yellow on bottle neck.

crisp, clear, pale golden color.pours with a three finger bright white head the makes its self scarce real quick. a one finger skim layer remains on top. however next to no lacing is left.

i smell very light notes of hops. slightly floral. grassy. no hint of rye at all. smells kind of like a miller lite, but slightly more complex.

it tastes decent. it may smell like a miller lite but it tastes better. grainy, grassy, weak malts. sweet and crisp at first. once you swallow a dryness lingers over your entire palate. a non bitter finish that's decent.

mouth feel is very light, again almost like a miller lite. not bitter, but a dryness lingers.

overall i was disappointed with this kugels brew. its good, but Sam Adams escape route makes this taste like water. This is only my second kolsch brew. so i don't have much to compare it to.

I was expecting a disappointment from Leinie's with their 2014 Canoe Paddler. Man, was I wrong! This is a very drinkable, seasonable Kolsch. Reviewers, remember this isn't some Imperial Stout with enormous flavors. It's a Kolsch. Intended for post labor on a hot summer day, its flavors are subtle. Certainly don't drink this after a stout or big IPA expecting in your face flavors.

A: light straw and transparent. Modest head that dissipates.

S: typical Kolsch grass and bread.

T: was expecting some dryness from the purported rye, but got none. Still quite good for a Kolsch.

M: ditto, not getting the rye. Overall, quite good.

O: got a 6 of this today at a good price. Will definitely pick up more. Hoping to see it on draught. This compares quote well to the Alaskan Summer Kolsch, one of my favorite for thus style. I wish Leinie's had imparted a bit more rye flavor. It would have been interesting. It's nice, tho', that they didn't go overboard on the hops.

Sampled a littler earlier tonight on 3/20/14 though it has been a good year plus since I tried it. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a tulip glass.

Pours a clear amber in color with about a finger of a white head that settles back down to just a thin layer on top. Spotty lacing was seen with each sip. The aroma is of rye and some mixed hops, just like the bottle says. The taste is more complex actually. The taste of rye hits your tongue first then followed up with some grains & hops. Actually pretty smooth and goes down easy. No bitter aftertaste or or 'hoppy' bitter finish.

Overall a great representation of the style. Some nice floral and perfume from the hop combination. Subtle malty sweet balance. Rye adds a nice snappy drying finish. Gold medal winner. Really nice beer. I definitely recommend this beer. Well done Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co.

My palate is probably not yet refined enough to critique this beer, but here goes___

appearance: clear golden in color, very little head

smell: lacking any I can detect

taste: bland, better yet dare I say it very bud light(ish)

mouthfeel: the high point of this beer from my perspective, crisp, light , should be okay on a hot summer day, but not my fave.

overall: as stated above very bud light(ish), and I really enjoy some of leinies offerings

FWIW: 12 0z. bottle poured into a sam adams glass , best by date: 05/12/14
