Shared with Small Paul, the liquor store connection. Side poured with standard vigor from the bottle into a goblet.

Appearance - Pours a nice, transparent copper color with about a one and a half finger head that leaves mediocre lacing. Head retention is about a quarter of the way into the brew.

Smell - Malts, fruitiness, a little spices, and a bit of alcohol. Nothing too impressive.

Taste - High on sweetness. Caramel, sweet malts, and a certain bready sensation are ever present on the palate. There is a little bit of alcohol present as well. Many of flavors are more subdued, nothing is particularly overpowering.

Mouthfeel - Finishes clean and rich, quite smooth. One of the better aspects of the beer. Medium carbonation

Overall - This is a decent beer overall. I would not buy it again, probably won't drink it again. But it is worth a try if offered to you. Decent example of the style, just not super impressed, nothing here will blow your hair back.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 1/2014. Pours light hazy deep orange copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of caramel, biscuit, toast, raisin, brown sugar, pear, apple, light grape, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Ok aromas with solid balance of malt and yeast ester notes; but they are very muted. Taste of big caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, toffee, raisin, pear, apple, herbal, floral, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, toffee, raisin, pear, apple, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Good balance, complexity, and robustness of malt and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; with some lightly cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and slightly syrupy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is moderately well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a pretty solid imperial oktoberfest. Decent balance/complexity and big robustness of flavors; and pretty smooth to sip on. A fairly enjoyable offering.

Appearance: Crystal-clear golden orange body, surmounted by a modest, dense and persistent off-white head. Patchy Belgian-like lacing adorns the glass walls. The carbonation is very slight.

Aroma: Strong pepper notes dominate the aroma. Sweet alcohol and light fruit aromas are also notable.

Taste: Opens with strong sweet alcohol, and faint toasted malt, as the taste progresses, the alcohol flavors dominate, although there are sweet light fruit flavors as well. Very little toasted malt is present, notable considering this is a signature of the style. Finishes with lingering sweet alcohol and restrained toasted malt.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, full, very pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: Interesting and idiosyncratic take on the style.

Presentation: Packaged in a twelve-ounce brown long neck bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

12oz. bottle poured into a nonic.

(A)- Pours a clear cider-like orange amber color. Some solid off-white froth. Solid retention.

(S)- Quite malty. Hints of a bready rye-like spice meets plenty of caramel, honey, and faint hints of orange citrus.

(T)- Very nutty and bread-like. Almost roasted, but more like a rye spice in there. Big sweetness with caramel malts all over. Subtle orange citrus.

(M)- A mellow carbonation level. This definitely fits the style, but an example on steroids. Bigger sweetness, bigger grains, bigger hops.

(O)- Definitely one of the more robust takes on the style I have tried thus far. Definitely enjoyable, but not one I would put a few away in one sitting; it gets very sweet for me.
