Brewed with Sterling hops and organic 2-row malts, Charles Flint's organic lager is as smooth as it gets. The combination of these two ingredients gives you the world’s finest hops and malts all in one mouthful. Our lager is aged to perfection, staying in our lagering tanks for a minimum of four weeks before being filtered and packaged. The result is a lager that provides a perfect dry finish with moderate maltiness and a lingering bitterness from the hops.

L - golden body, persistent creamy white head
S - yeast, biscuit, grass, earth
T - typical flavors - biscuit, grass, yeast, mild spicy noble hop
F - light body, ample carbonation, finishes crisp and clean
O - pretty standard for the style. It is better than most macros though

A - Pale amber lager, the coor of ripe straw. The head is cloudy and white. Retention is okay at best.

S - Charlie Flint reminds me of mainstream lagers. Up front has lightly toasted bread blending with aromas of corn adjuncts. Corn does seem to add some sweetness in the middle. The aroma does finish however with just a faint hint of hops, fading quickly away.

T - Seems to be a fairly straightforward lager. There's a little bit of body to it though, more than most mainstream models. Body/mouthfeel is pretty smooth with up front flavors of pilsner malts. Pilsner moves into an adjunct center giving more impressions of rice than corn. Finish has a little bit of hops, cutting the beer's other qualities.

O - Overall, pretty straightforward. Reminiscent of most mainstream lagers, but maybe a slightly better version of same.

From notes, enjoyed many times over the years but never took the time to truly scrutinize
A - Straw golden clear, thumb head retained reasonably well at half a finger

S - Toasty grains and adjunct, light leafy hop aroma, fairly mild and unassuming

T - Grain and adjunct start, crisp grassy and light herbal hops build, mild boiled veggie flavour 3.5

M - Light and crisp, gentle dry finisg 3.5

O - not one of the better offerings from Alley Kat but that's only becuase they have set a high standard, this makes a nice session option

Bought a 6-pack of bottles while in Grande Prairie, AB.

It pours with a great-looking white creamy head and a clear, gold-yellow body. On the smell I get strong malt and grain and detect corn and boiled spinach.

On the taste, it is a sweet lager, with sour (or spicy) zing to it. I get malt and apple taste also. It has a heavy body, medium carbonation, slight oily but clean feel.

Overall, a very good beer. A good pale lager. I'd get it again.

It has been almost a year since I last reviewed any Alley Kat, which is really far too long - and tomorrow I am moving to an area outside of the brewery's distribution range! What a wasted twelve months. I've been meaning to try Charlie Flint's for a while but something else always stole my attention first...but with the hot weather finally descending upon Alberta and me moving piles of boxes around, this is a good time for a refreshing pale lager.

Pours a translucent golden-yellow colour reminiscent of apple juice. Decent one-finger head doesn't last terribly long, but some lacing and a thin cap remains. Smell is mostly sweet grain malts with some fruity esters; not a lot of hops or grass.

Taste is dominated by pale and slightly sour malts, with some grassy hops in the finish. Not a lot of sweetness, but not a lot of bitterness either. I am reminded of the taste of leather. Slightly dry finish. I can't say it's really interesting, but this is about as smooth-tasting and drinking as you can get, i.e. it is an APL alright. Watery mouthfeel and low-ish carbonation for the style.

This probably isn't the kind of thing I'd ever get regularly, but I can see its appeal, and it is certainly one of the better APLs I have had in recent memory. Worth a try, but definitely one of Alley Kat's less-interesting offerings.

341ml bottle poured pint glass April,25 2011

A clear golden yellow with plenty of bubbles that feed a short lived finger of foam that leaves a few patches of lace

S for a second there I thought this was Aprikat because apricot was the first thing I could smell followed by some sweet malt and that's about

T some peach and boiled veggies on top of what I smell and a slightly metallic taste

M fairly light bodied with a clean finish, could use more bubbles but still far from flat

O nothing great and nothing bad, no major issues with this one but beside their pale ale this one may stay on the shelf

not the best brew from Alley Kat but nothing to be ashamed of, maybe I'll try it on tap if I see it around town
