Too much pumpkin spice in this beer for me.

Bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours an orange red with a white head. Nose is pumpkin and spice. The beer is very smooth in taste and mouthfeel. This was my first pumpkin beer. Not my favorite but not bad.

Bomber poured into a tulip glass. Ruddy bronze hue with two fingers of creamy light tan head. Aroma is mellow pumpkin, brown sugar, distinct hay-like grassy floral hops, cinnamon, nutmeg, a wisp of ginger. Palate is characterized by an overarching mellow sweet vibe, with no one flavor (pumpkin, spices, malts, hops) becoming overbearing or too dominant. The pumpkin comes through delicately fruity and is particularly noticeable in the finish. The spices are subtle and deliver a root beer or ginger snap effect without any unpleasant bitterness. The brown sugar or caramel note is more pronounced on the nose than in the mouth, although a condensed milk toffee-like sweetness does build over time. Tea-like hops in the finish. Moderate to thick body I'd say, with carbonation right in the mid-range. I am enjoying this pumpkin ale, appreciating the subtlety and balance across the different ingredients. Not the most robust in terms of pumpkin and spice flavors but this is where I tend to lean where this style is concerned.

Thanks wordemupg!

Appearance. Pours a cler, deep amber-orange with a finger of cream coloured head.

Smell. Nutmeg cinnamon and ginger, sweet creamy caramel, and a touch of orange squash. ;-)

Taste. Again, those classic pumpkin pie spices hit first along with a touch of coffee, the creamy sweet caramel is there but not nearly as much as was in the nose, and again, a little bit of real pumpkin when I look for it.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, medium-low carbonation.

Overall. A drinkable pumpkin beer which for me is saying quite a bit. Spices aren't very overbearing which is also a nice change for the style. I'd drink it again.

Pours a nice dark copper color with a two finger white bubbly head that sticks around. Lots of lacing.

Smells strongly of sweet pumpkin; very nice. Little hints of spices: cinnamon, nutmeg.

Tastes very sweet with plenty of spices of cinnamon and nutmeg. Unlike the aroma, there are weak hints of pumpkin in the taste. Very little hop bitterness. Slight grainy taste to it, and a decent malt backbone.

Nice medium body that is appropriate for the style, although it is just a little bit too watery. Still feels good though. Just the right amount of carbonation to tickle the tongue.

Unfortunately the pumpkin taste was not prominent in the taste as it was in the aroma. Lots of spices present (for some it might be too much), and tasted pretty sweet. Overall though, it's a very nice pumpkin ale from Alley Kat.

Re-review, 2013. 650ml bottle that is about two weeks old. Previous review (2012) was a few months old.

Pours a one finger white head with a beautiful dark red ruby body.

Smells like a pumpkin pie. Fresh pumpkin pie. Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, bit of clove, nice bready and sweet tones on the nose. Excellent.

Nice pumpkin pie taste throughout the mouth. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. Slight bready note, and its pretty sweet. Nice amount of pumpkin, but a little bit more spice than pumpkin, which I personally don't mind. Leaves a dry, sweet finish. Slight hop bitterness. Bit of caramel malt.

Body feels just right. Medium body. Nice carbonation. Goes down real silky smooth, not watery at all.

I feel the 2013 edition is better, although my 2012 bottle was a few months old, whereas this one is about two weeks old. Definitely much better fresh. An amazing pumpkin ale from Alley Kat. Anyone stopping at or around Alberta, see if you can find this in the stores!

Appearance - Pours a a slightly hazy reddish brown with a half finger width of bubbly head.

Smell - Cinnamon, nutmeg, light pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices.

Taste - All the spices of pumpkin pie, though light on the pumpkin flavour. Bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall - A pumpkin ale that focuses more on the spices than the pumpkin. I'd like to taste more pumpkin flavour in the next batch. Otherwise, a tasty spiced ale.
