A - fully clouded golden, two fingers of fluffy head dissipated very slowly
S - strong odours of grains, corn, yeast, mild banana and spices
T - much like the nose with the wheaty grain dominating, although closely followed by the unfiltered yeastiness, farmiliar flavourful banana with a mild but lingering spice note
M - creamy smooth with a sufficient carbonation kick that builds throughout, finishes full, bready, and sweet
O - a solidly build hefe from start to finish with the 'wit' being a major characteristic as opposed to domination by the fruity yeast flavours as is often the case with the style, very well done

Another offering from their 'big bottle' series meaning a 650ml bomber

Pours a pale straw yellow. Cloudy, (duh) Nice bright white head. Good lace webs.

Aroma is dominated by banana with a hint of pear. Banana smells border-line banana extract. Slight hint of clove spices as well

Dry, crisp wheat malt followed by slight clove spiciness. This all gets washed away in a banana(with pear as the backup) tsunami. Finish is better balanced with a return to clove spice and some butter caramel.

Touch on the watery side, but over feel fits form

Tweak the yeast and this cud be the best non-euro hefe I've sampled to date

A- Poured from a 650mL bottle....comes out a yellowish, very yeasty hazed color, which is wonderful by the way....one of the best hazes I've seen in a Hefe! The head is very densely packed, super white in color and retains about as good as can be....staying put at about two fingers. I do see a fair bit of big bubbly carbonation starting at the bottom of my glass but nothing to be concerned about. Lacing is nice and compact as it clings to the side of the glass. Overall a superb looking beer!

S- Good traditional smelling Hefe, with lots of herbal like spice and ripe bananas dominating. There is a hint of barley/wheat malt sweetness and a muted hop bitterness but nothing really of note....slightly disappointing to finish up I have to say but still nice.

T- More fruity than the aroma lets on, and there is more of a citrus note to it, however, the banana is still quite noticeable. The herbal spices are still there, but are more muted too...cloves are present. It is very rich in yeasty goodness as well I have to say. The finish isn't really bitter, but the spice finishes off in a tart fashion.

M- Creamy, yeasty, and is solidly medium bodied, this is a rich and tasty brew. The carbonation is plentiful, but very fine...almost froth like. I don't find really anything wrong with this version of the style....

O- I find this to be a Hefe that is a blend of the German and Belgian styles, with qualities of both styles found. Spicy but fruit forward at the same time. This is a thirst quenching hot weather beer and I really like it....overall a fine representation of a Hefeweizen!

From a 650 ml brown bottle, the newest release in Alley Kat's Big Bottle series. Pours out a cloudy straw colour, massive tight foamy white head.

Dry wheat, musty phenols, with some banana esters.

Clean yet dry wheat up front in the flavour, moderate phenols in the middle, with a finish of accurious combination of sweet banana esters, and the tart astringency you would get from "green" unripe bananas. Very dry in the end, the green banana wins out. Clean finish.

Medium-light mouthfeel, brisk pin-prick carbonation provides a quenching sensation and helps to add the dry character to the flavour.

Very dry for a Hefe, not really from the phenols, however still from the yeast I would imagine. The green banana character kind of substitutes for some hoppiness, although is not quite desirable for this particular style. Certainly a quencher, although quite different from the cask version that was bursting with banana esters. Possibly an off bottle, yet this is the 2nd one I've sampled.

Took this bottle down as part of my Canada Day celebrations.

A - Pours a hazy orange colour with a brown tint, finger of head with decent retention and no real lacing.

S - Lots of citrus and bananas, touch of cloves and orange creamsicle on the finish.

T - The banana notes are dominating, sweet yeast and wheat flavours linger alongside some orange citrus.

M - Medium bodied ale that goes down smooth and finishes nice and wet.

O - Overall a really tasty Hefe from Alley Kat, lots of fruit and a sweeter take on the style. Highly recommended and easily drinkable on a hot summer day!

650ml bomber poured into Schneider Weisse Glass 7/1/11

A very cloudy peachy orange saturated with bubbles, I don't know how you would fit more carbonation in a glass of beer, the foam grows for a while before slowly falling to a thick film leaving polka dot lace to the bottom of the glass

S spice with bubblegum yeast and banana both bruised and fresh if that's possible, on point for the style but nothing putting it above "good"

T other then the cornflake peaking through the taste mimics the smell, I slightly enjoyed the smell more then the flavor but not enough to go above or below "good"

M I'm not sure if it's light bodied for being light bodied, or if the ridiculous amount of bubbles makes it feel like air, but either way it works well but will leave you burping

O high marks here for finishing the bomber before the review, but for real Alley Kat surprised me again with a very respectable version of yet another beer style in their ever EXPANDING portfolio

BIG PROPS to Alley Kat for trying(and succeeding) and brewing a foreign style that may not be appreciated by the average Alberta beer geek. Sit under a hot sun and not enjoy this brew I dare you

650ml bottle, Alley Kat's latest big bottle offering.

This beer pours a cloudy, murky, fermenting white wine-like 'golden' yellow colour, with two fingers of thin frothy just-off-white head, which settles pleasingly quickly, leaving a few specks of lace around the glass. It smells of banana bubblegum, soft sweet wheat grain, some mild yeasty citrus, and even fainter white pepper. The taste is sweet wheat all the way - banana, yeast, coriander, and generic bitter citrus fulfilling their usual suspects roles admirably. The carbonation is cheeky, in that it is more fresh than it initially seems, with a body that comes across medium light, smooth, and fruity. It finishes still sweet and wheaty, but with a growing astringency that is hard to pin down - grain, booze, and peppery yeast seem the most culpable.

A good rendition of the style, very flavourful, with a bent towards the sweet, which kind of limits my already wary appreciation of multiple or lengthy imbibing sessions. Still, good job, Alley Kat, and keep it up!

I was very excited to find this brand new beer from Alley Kat's Big Bottle series at my local liquor store. Should be pretty good considering the other specialty beers. 650ml bottle poured into a weizen glass.

This is a nice looking beer! It pours a cloudy tangerine colour with a nice finger of foamy head which settles down to a thin layer.

Off the top, aroma of banana and citrus are very apparent. It is also slightly yeasty with a little hint of spiciness.

The flavour is quite sour to start. The citrus is much more apparent now. The banana flavour is more evident towards the back of the mouth, where it blends with the maltiness to have a sort of banana-bread flavour. It is a bit heavier than I expected, but that makes it a really satisfying drink.

Overall, I think this is the best in Alley Kat's Big Bottle series, and maybe one of their best beers yet. I'll definitely buy this one again before it's all gone!
