A - just slightly hazy bright golden, solid stark white head was creamy and retained nicely, bits of lacing
S - grassy and grapefruit hops meld well with herbal and lightly fruity yeasty esters, very nice
T - more grain and metallic flavours come through vs. the nose, but still dominated by grass, grapefruit, herbs and yeast, with a faint pear flavour lingering
M - light and well carbonated, crisp and dry with a hint of bitterness late finish
O - a very pleasant and easy drinking example of the style, doesn't drown you in either side of the flavour profile or with the alcohol content as is sometimes the case when they lean heavy on the Belgian side, I would like to see this become a regular seasonal

650ml bottle poured into tulip 28/6/13
A hazy pale orange with lots of sediment and enough clarity to see a few bubbles but odds are good there's more then what I can see because they produce a two finger foam that has decent retention and leaves a couple rings followed by some random patches
S lots of sweet orange peel, plenty of herbal spice and a little spruce, smells strong with the citrus and spice working well together with some faint Belgian yeast and the tropical notes, smells solid
T a small step back from the nose but still has plenty working for it, a little toned down and not as much of the sweet orange peel I was digging on the nose, spice is a little more focused towards pepper and clove
M medium bodied with soft bubbles, just a little grit and rind lingers on the finish with a little spice
O very drinkable with a nice hops kick, interesting stuff that works well for me, a very hopped up Wit
something different and I could drink another bomber in the sun with no problems, props to Alley Kat for continuing to try new things and succeeding

650ml bottle, the latest in AK's Big Bottle Series. This time, it's a nod to Edmonton's trendiest young- and hip-ster scene, Whyte Avenue, as the beginning of an obvious pun-o-rama.
This beer pours a hazy, bright medium golden straw hue, with two fingers of puffy, densely foamy white (!) head, which leaves some nice random melting ice block lace around the glass as it lazily seeps away.
It smells of semi-sweet orange peel, a bitter herbal leafiness, spicy wheat grain, mild earthy yeast, white (there it goes again!) pepper, subdued clove, a bit of whole wheat breadiness, and boozy pine-scented solution. The taste is fairly yeasty up front, which plays well with the sharp, bready wheat malt, but kind of comes to blows with the equally pungent dry orange and edgy herbal pine needle hop notes. Some soft musty, muddled tropical fruit waft up out of this confusion, along with hints of coriander and black pepper dust. That early suggestion of alcohol from the nose is thankfully absent now.
The carbonation is average - mostly frothy, and somewhat fleeting - the body medium-light in weight, and actually quite smooth, just a twinge of acrid yeast and hop thereabouts, to no real ill effect. It finishes fairly dry, and clean, the hops, yeast and wheat having reached an amicable detente.
Nice to see a version of this style that keeps it in IPA territory, ABV-wise, rather the typical DIPA apings. While it starts off a tad rocky, things eventually settle into a nice hoppy, fruity, yeasty, and wheaty tipple. More or less summery, so I'm sure I can't wait to have a pint or three of this the next time I find myself across the river, on a sunny patio, on the eponymous strip.
