Notes/Commercial Description:
First brewed by Harvest Moon in 1998, this wheat ale is a mild version of a Belgian classic, with perfect amounts of malted barley and malted wheat, hopped with Czechoslovakian Saaz hops, and finished with a touch of coriander and orange peel. It soon developed a faithful following and has become the brewery's most popular beer, winning many people's choice awards. It is an ale for every season with a hint of fruit in the nose, subdued malty flavor and a slightly orange (citrus) finish. Often it is seved with a slice of orange! Why the name "Beltian"?Because it's a Belgian-style ale brewed in Belt - BELTian white!

Appearance- Pours a clear apricot colour with a thin line of bubbly head.

Smell- wheat, orange, coriander, caramel

Taste- wheat, orange peel, coriander and a huge hit of caramel. A little confusing on the palate as to why this is classified as a witbier. Tastes almost like a EPA or an amber ale.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with light carbonation. A tad thin.

Overall- A tasty but confusing brew by Harvest Moon. Not sure if this is an off bottle or not but it seems as if the witbier base is present but tastes like an EPA or an amber ale as mentioned previously. I feel like the brewers put the wrong batch in the wrong bottle.

A: mostly clear pale yellow. Forms a fizzy white head that very quickly reduces to barely nothing. 3.5
S: light pale malts. Light lemon. Light orange. 3.0
T: very light flavor of lemon and orange. A touch of coriander. Light wheat malts. Otherwise, very mild. 3.0
M: light bodied. Heavier carbonation. Slight tangy spiciness. 3.5
O: a very simplistic wheat ale that doesn't resemble a wit in the least. However, still quite quaffable, easily approachable, and clearly brewed for the masses. 3.0

355ml bottle poured into tall pilsner glass 30/6/12

A hazy pale yellow with enough clarity to see streams of bubbles that feed a very long lasting bone white head, several partial rings of lace and still a thick foam at the bottom of the glass

S sweet orange, lemon, coriander and some dry cereal and a little hay, smells pretty good

T a little overdone with the spice but still tastes good but I preferred the smell, a little peppery even

M medium bodied with almost too much carbonation almost turning to foam in your mouth,

O decent example of the style but perhaps just a little over spiced, that's my only complaint though this one went down with ease

this one would make a great patio beer under a hot sun, not the best Wit I've had but it works well and is a decent example of the style

from a random Montana 6-mixer, a few months past its best before date
A - clear straw golden, very bubbly, short white head retained at a thin covering
S - interesting mix of wheat, sour apricot, leafy and some adjunct
T - the coriander and orange peel comes through nicely off the top, bready wheat with crisp green hop accent
M - light, crisp clean with a pleasant dry finish
O - started a little iffy but came through nicely with bright light flavours and easy drinking feel, a great summer sipper

Yo, I may might not to be the first to review this beer from a CAN, but I may be the proudest, coming as it is from a CAN! The CANQuest (TM) loves dem CANs, yo!

From da CAN: "Beltian White Ale"; "Wheat Beer Brewed with Coriander and Orange Peel"; "From the Heart of Montana"; "Brewed with Pure Madison Aquifer and Choice Montana Grain".

Yo, yinz just qualified for a place on one of my jackets! I had some patches in standby for my first review of one of your beers and tonight is the night. I got a finger of thick bone-white head white head with limited retention. Color was a very hazy lemon-yellow. Nose smelled very spicy and I was reminded of a recent convo in which an old drinking buddy copped to suddenly being into Wits. I am never going to be following in his footsteps, but to each his own, plus the musty, dry nose with hints of black pepper got me to thinking about my bias. Mouthfeel was soft, silky smooth, like a fist wrapped in a velvet glove, slowly working me back & forth to a pleasant finish. OK, I'm back. Taste had a very dry black pepper taste on the tongue and it made me reminiscent of Montana, both in terms of the exotic dancer at Papa Joe's with name, as well as my trips to our 41st state. Spicy, baby! If you ever want to drive the US Autobahn, let me know! I am excited just thinking about it. Finish was dusty, musty dry and I was suddenly behind the wheel of a Porsche Spyder, going at unreasonable speeds ... Come back, Jimmy Dean, I need your help more than ever.

A: Clear yellow color, vigorous pour into a chimay goblet. Airy head that dissipated quickly leaving no lacing on the glass. Little carbonation bubbles.

S: Definitely pick up the orange smell with hint of spice.

T: Nice crisp white, not syrupy, the orange and coriander are pronounced without being overwhelming. The beer is a bit thin but the carbonation makes this nice a crisp and refreshing.

M: Crisp, light and refreshing, this is a good beer to drink all night.

Overall: I enjoyed this beer, unfortunately I only received this one can in a BIF so this is it. Would be a great beer to sip on the boat during the hot summer weather. I enjoy this white as it is not too sweet or syrupy, it is clean and crisp.

I drank this beer every week for all three years that I lived in Great Falls, MT (bout 10 miles up the road from the Belt Brewery) and it is one of the only things I'm going to miss about the place.

Pours a very hazy, pale straw color with a bright white head that sticks around.

The nose smacks of citrus and coriander, but not over the top. It is clearly a wit.

Tastes smooth, citrusy and a tiny bit of spice. Allagash White comes to mind. Albeit with more character and flavor in my opinion.

This beer is highly drinkable, especially on tap. Superb session beer. If you have questions about whether or not it's a wit, I would ask yourself if you know what a wit truly is. If you're ever in Great Falls, give it a try. It's a nice surprise in an otherwise culturally desolate place.

12 oz bottle, courtesy of Ryan011235, poured into a Duvel tulip.

A bright and bubbly but short-lived head tops a glowing hazy golden body. A bit of lacing is teased here and there, but nothing really sticks.

Fresh bready aromas with the advertised wheat, coriander and orange peel wafting gently in and out of the nose. The orange and especially the coriander flavors get a bit bolder, marrying up nicely with the tangy wheat. Finishes fairly dry with a bready aftertaste and mild lingering spicy notes. Could use perhaps a touch more carbonation- it gets a little thin/watery in the second half of the glass.

Overall impression: Easy recommendation for an easy drinking, refreshing beer.

16oz pint at a roadhouse in Kalispell, MT.

This beer appears a pale, very hazy golden yellow colour, with one skinny finger of dirty white head, which leaves a bit of streaky lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of semi-sweet orange pith, grainy wheat malt, a hint of earthy coriander, and some faint leafy, weedy hops. The taste is spicy, grainy wheat, fresh and fruity orange citrus, middling white pepper and coriander spice, and soft earthy drying hops.

The carbonation is moderately frothy, the body just on the lee side of medium weight, and a bit too acidic to be considered all that smooth. It finishes mostly dry, and slightly fruity.

A decent witbier - fruity, dry, and thirst quenching. A nice summer sipper, worthy of further investigation.
