Notes/Commercial Description:
Bent Nail I.P.A. is a tribute to the hard-working contractors who make their living in Red Lodge. The I.P.A is high in alcohol and hop flavor. We use copious of American cascade hops to give the IPA intense grapefruit and citrus aroma and flavor.

Served this American IPA on tap in a pint glass. Poured a clear amber color, produced a thick white head, excellent retention and lacing left on the glass. The aroma consisted of caramel, toffee, and citric hops. Medium bodied, foundation of biscuit malt, caramel, toffee, pine needles and lemon citric hops. Dry finish. Decent session beer, quality American IPA- it's not elite, but it will do the trick.

12 oz bottle into pint glass. This is a darn good IPA. Perhaps the best Montana has to offer, at least bottled. Hoppy enough to know youre drinking a tough IPA but so balanced, could sneak in as a Pale Ale? Who knows. Not I. But I do know that this a beer worth drinking, always!

I bought a 6 pack at Star Liquor in Sheridan. Bottled on date of Sept 20, 2013.

A slow pour brought a 2 finger head of foam sitting on a deep golden coloured brew.

The smell is hoppy with notes of grapefruit and orange backed by a mild malt sweetness.

The taste is mildly bitter hops, again grapefruit and orange, the malt is kind of nonchalant; sometimes a sweetish flavour comes into play and then is gone. I think the hops are just beginning to fade from, what I'd think they were like, when fresh but not enough to where you get that grainy, kind of sickly sweetness old IPAs usually end up suffering from.

Nice mouthfeel here and it is certainly easy to drink. It's a good brew and decent IPA.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a two finger ivory head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of bready and biscuit malt, light piney and citrus hops. Flavor is biscuit malt and citrus and grassy hops, light orange citrus. Finishes with a lingering grassy hop bitterness. Medium body with a bit of creaminess, good mouth feel. A mellow IPA that hits all the characters I want in an IPA, perhaps a bit reserved in the hop flavors, but I don't know how old this bottle is. A very light vegetal flavor is the only off note. I'd stop for this if I were in Red Lodge. Thanks for this bottle, Vikki

I'm a beer drinker who does not like IPAs. I'll order them from time to time just to be different, and every time my taste buds confirm what I already know: I simply don't like them. Most are so hoppy, I can't get down the first sip. Red Lodge IPA is the exception. I ordered one at a restaurant in Livingston, MT, and was really impressed. It's hoppy, but not super hoppy. It's bitter, but just barely. It's like the minor league IPA, which is perfect for a guy like me: somebody who doesn't really like IPA in general. It was on tap, so maybe it's less intense than out of the bottle. But for me, this was a flavor that suited.

Bottom line, it's an amazing, easy drinking beer. And if light beer ever goes out of business, this could be my every-day drink.

This IPA is one of the best, easiest drinking IPAs on the market. I must warn that draft and bottle seem to taste very different. Out of the bottle seems to have more flavor. Might be because of letting the beer opening up in a glass. I would recommend this beer to many who don't think they like IPAs as well as people who already know they love them...
