Notes/Commercial Description:
Bent Nail I.P.A. is a tribute to the hard-working contractors who make their living in Red Lodge. The I.P.A is high in alcohol and hop flavor. We use copious of American cascade hops to give the IPA intense grapefruit and citrus aroma and flavor.

Served this American IPA on tap in a pint glass. Poured a clear amber color, produced a thick white head, excellent retention and lacing left on the glass. The aroma consisted of caramel, toffee, and citric hops. Medium bodied, foundation of biscuit malt, caramel, toffee, pine needles and lemon citric hops. Dry finish. Decent session beer, quality American IPA- it's not elite, but it will do the trick.

Nothing like a bottle of a veritable American IPA for well south of 2 bucks at a coffee shop in Missoula...

This beer pours a clear, dark amber hue, with one finger of soapy light beige head, which leaves some thin curtained lace around the glass as it retreats. It smells of caramel toffee malt, a bit of nougat, and citrus/floral hops. The taste is caramel, butterscotch, biscuit malt, some pine resin, and citrus hops. The carbonation is moderate, the body medium weight, creamy, and a bit prickly. It finishes off-dry, the soft pine hops blended with some doughy malt.

A nice, fairly reserved American IPA - all the points are there, they just don't whack you over the head, that's all.

Poured from the 12oz bottle into a Stella stem glass. Body is an orange-amber color, topped by a couple of fingers of creamy white head that leaves some very nice lacing. Aroma of fruity hops, sweet, bready malt, and a touch of pepper.
Palate is well-balanced between the sweet, bready English-style malt base and assertive, fruity hops. A touch of citrus and bubble gum are detectable, along with a good tanginess from the yeast. Not particularly bitter at any point, but the hops do make their presence felt.
Body is full and creamy, but not lively or particularly bubbly. An enjoyable beer to drink, but if you're looking for any sort of huge hop presence, look elsewhere. This is more of an English style IPA, or even an English pale. Still, a tasty offering from a place that's off the beaten path.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a two finger ivory head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of bready and biscuit malt, light piney and citrus hops. Flavor is biscuit malt and citrus and grassy hops, light orange citrus. Finishes with a lingering grassy hop bitterness. Medium body with a bit of creaminess, good mouth feel. A mellow IPA that hits all the characters I want in an IPA, perhaps a bit reserved in the hop flavors, but I don't know how old this bottle is. A very light vegetal flavor is the only off note. I'd stop for this if I were in Red Lodge. Thanks for this bottle, Vikki
