I purchased a bottle of Yanjing Beer in El Monte, California/USA for $2.69 USD.

Look: Yanjing Beer had a bright yellow colour with light foam.
Smell: Yanjing Beer had an aroma of bittersweet malts mixed with chemicals.
Taste: Yanjing Beer had a taste of malts.
Feel: Yanjing Beer had average amounts of carbonation.
Overall: People who enjoy a beer that has average amounts carbonation may enjoy Yanjing Beer.

The poured beer doesn't look very good, the head disappears rather quickly, but the aroma and the taste are decent. This one is more hoppy than most Chinese beers, and doesn't taste as watered down or sweet. The feel is a bit over carbonated in my opinon, making the drink feel more like a soda than a beer.

Pours out into a Duvel glass a clear bright yellow color with a 1/2" snow white head that soon recedes to a ring around the glass and a thin layer of foam with a patch here and there on the sides of the glass. Sipping leaves some widely scattered speckles and legs of lacing. If there had been some foam around to the end of the beer the score would probably have been higher.

The aroma initially has a slight touch of skunk that quickly disappears and so will not be factored into the rating score because that is a retailer storage issue not a brewing issue. The aroma is quite faint but has hints of malt and what may be hops.

The light, subtle flavors initially tend toward the sweet side but then quickly become dry, as one would expect from the use of rice as an adjunct. There is really no noticable bitterness

The mouth feel is on the light side of medium and the slight prickly feel from carbonation only lasts for about half the beer. The finish is reasonably long, begins in the light malt sweetness and then tapers off into dryness.

Overall this is a drinkable beer for people who are thirsty and don't want much flavor in their beer. Doing several in an evening would not be a problem, but for myself I want something with more flavor than this offers.

A: It's clear gold, with a head that rapidly disappears, and small bubbles.
S: Slight smells of rice, corn, malt, floral, and some skunk.
T : It's like slightly bitter flavored water. A little rice taste, and a little grass, but that's about it.
M: Feels very watery. Smooth, and easily chug able.
O: It looks pretty, but would rather drink regular water or tea then this. Must find something else.

Sampled last night on 3/16/15. Comes in a 330ml (11.2 ounce) heavy green bottle. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a flute glass.

Brew pours a straw-yellow in color with a thin white cap. Some spotty lacing is seen when poured. Reminds be of a cheap US brew actually. The aroma is of sweet corn with a hint of rice with a slight 'skunky' smell which is typical for brews in green bottles. Pretty much is said for the taste also but is on the thin 'watered down' side. Lighter-bodied with good carbonation. Overall, it reminded me of a Bud product that is mass-produced for the folks that don't know what a good beer should taste like, BUT to each their own! It was drinkable but that was about it and nothing really special.

Purchased at the LCBO for $2.20 for a 500ml can. Served at 4deg C in a draught glass

A- Opens well and pours a high white head that stays over 1min. Light gold like a Bud

S- Not much at all. Just like a Bud

T- Pretty pedestrian. Not a lick of hops. Has a decent malt backbone. A bit better than Bud

M- Fairly good. Has a nice little creamy level to it that is refreshing

O- Pretty good but only a touch better than a Bud.

Food Pairing

This beer is worth a bit more on the foodie scale..... This beer went well with..... BBQ hot dogs. Good quality hot dogs BBQ'd until the ends split then on a bun plain and juicy

Pours golden. Decent hop aroma. Taste is crisp and clean with a decent hop bitterness. Some Saki notes from the rice, but it's not bad actually. I wouldn't search for it, but it's better than most of the adjunct lagers out there.

Herrow everybawdee!

Ok, I'll stop.

Serving style : Singles cooler, green glass bottle, 11.2 oz, poured for appearance. You guys better love me for this - I'm drinking Chinese beer for crying out loud.

Appearance (3.25) : Fluffy, malty head about 3 fingers high, descending like the Great Wall of China. Leaves very faint and short gasps of lacing that disappear into nothing as soon as it hangs for 3 seconds. Body is piss yellow (that's the most accurate way I can describe this). A small shelf of lacing is left on the top of the beer.

Smell (3.25) : Whoa. Cooked rice in a steamer. Behind that, some adjunct-y corn and wheat, and some faint planty hop.

Taste (3) : Somewhat medicinal, like paint or rubber cement. Beyond that, it's rice and corn adjunct, perhaps a little similar to Rolling Rock, but a little thinner and not as enjoyable. Dry finish. Taste is better out of the bottle vs the glass.

Mouthfeel (3.5) : Actually not bad for the style. Carbonated and lively, ending crisp and dry.

Overall (3.12) : At $1.50 for this beer it was rip-off city. I can't see anyone actually drinking this on a regular basis outside of China, but I suppose if you're there it's probably better than most things you'll find. A good take on an American Adjunct Lager, if a bit rice-y, but a poor beer overall.

Definitely an adjunct, but, being a sake lover, the rice notes in this are so rewarding. It was over 90 degrees F here today and I had one that was ice cold, was so refereshing, like a lightly carbonated sake mix, "shandy" almost lol. Not a staple but would definitely give another go under the same circumstances

This was on the bargain clearance shelf so I decided to give it a try.

Pours a clear golden color with a white head.

Very good aroma. Lots of grain with a little bit of hops.

Flavor starts fairly sweet but a slight hoppy note is hiding out there. Fairly clean tasting. No off flavors like I expect from a macro-style lager.

Medium mouthfeel.

Overall, a better than average beer of the style. Not bad as a summer quencher. Probably not worth seeking out either but it exceeds most others of this style by managing to be inoffensive.

Appearance - Pours a golden straw with a finger of white head that recedes quickly.

Smell - rice, grains, light musty hops, sweet bready malts.

Taste - Starts off with sweet bready malts then the rice, grains, and light hops. Finishes crisp and dry.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation.

Overall - A simple American adjunct that is easy to drink and has a crisp finish. Nothing out of the ordinary here but a simple and easy drinker.

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high bright white head that died down, leaving a patch of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Faint aromas of adjunct malts are present in the nose—corn seems to stand out in particular.
T: Like the smell, the taste has flavors of corn adjuncts along with notes of rice and slight hints of sweetness, bitterness, and skunk, the latter of which might be a result of the green bottle.
M: It feels light-bodied, clean and a little watery on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This could be considered a lawnmower beer as it goes down easily and there's nothing really offensive about the taste, except that there aren't any interesting flavors.

It's a fizzy pale yellow beer, the Chinese version of any lame macro we have here in the U.S. or anywhere else. Barely any head forms, a sparse foam, with very little but at least noticeable spotting deposited in like manner.
It doesn't smell as bad as one might expect. There are actual detectable hops, maybe grass but essentially floral, with a certain tartness common, a lemony twang, and a bit of malts in a somewhat dry form.
The taste comes off a bit cloying, though, and very grainy. Fortunately, the tartness and crackery dry malts serve to ease that a little. It's a bit vegetal. Floral hops still come through, just barely, though an almost skunky sulfuric note adds its own little assault.
The feel is a little grainy and not particularly clean, though it does have a certain smoothness to it and is refreshingly crisp.

Pale clear yellow with a two finger frothy cap. Nose consists of sulfuric lager yeast, boiled vegetables, bread and rice. No hop presence. Palate is simple but not overly clean; rice, white bread, boiled veggies, slickness in the finish. Thin and watery with no finish. Fairly bad.

Had this on my flight with Southern China from Amsterdam to Ghangzhou. Poured it from can into plastic cup.
Clear golden body exhibiting some carbonation; with white medium coarse foam that reduces to rim and further nothing.
Aroma opens acetic that fades and is almost unnoticed later on, white bread aroma
Taste of pale malts, barely any bitterness
Soft water, fine carbonation, some warming alcohol.
I find this to be a drinkable, smooth and clean rice lager without a proper hop presence. Aside from the acetic opening note there is not much aroma or taste but there is also nothing wrong. Would be my best choice amongst Chinese pale lagees so far.

A deadly boring beer. Clear school bus yellow with a moderate white head that settles to a film and surrenders minor lace.

After that, its' utterly non-descript. The merest suggestion of hops and malt just barely distinguish this from a glass of fizzy water. Nothing off or offensive, just dull, dull, dull. That and its' wet.

Yanjing Beer has a thick, white head and a clear, bubbly, golden appearance, with some thin lacing left behind. The aroma is sugary sweet and grainy. Tastse is of the same, with a bit of paper and some light bittering thrown in. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Yanjing Beer finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, and easy going. Overall, this is a very good beer, and I am so glad I was able to try it.

Picked this up at a local thai place with some spicy pad thai.

A: poured from the 330 ml green bottle into a pint glass. the beer is light orange with a one finger head that doesn't last very long. Lots of carbonation.

S: somewhat malty but also an off cooked smell underneath. Other than that pretty faint.

T: malt and some thin hop flavor that is more vegetal. Somewhat watery. Not great. Adjuncty and really obvious.

Overall: typical asian pale lager. Nothing out of the ordinary or unexpected here.

A - very pretty beer. crystal clear with excited carbon dioxide. 1 finger of white pillowy foam that almost completely disappears after a minute.

S - exactly what I expect from Chinese beer. Skunky hops all the way.

T- not as hoppy as it smells. light and lackluster, but a thirst quencher for sure.

M- sharp. the high level of carbonation almost stings your tongue. swishing it around gives a creamy effect, but very bubbly. any more CO2 and it'd be champagne.

O- Not bad. It's what I expect in a green Chinese bottle of beer. I'd drink it if someone else bought it. Wouldn't be bad while mowing the lawn in the summer. I'd rather have a Schell's Pils for this style.

Pours a clear yellow with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt and grain. Taste is much the same with a mild grassy flavor on the finish. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty poor beer that smells better than it tastes but that isn't saying much.

Bottle: heavy 330mL green bottle, reasonable Asian label.

Appearance: light yellow in colour, very clear and crisp looking. Decent fluffy head that settles to a film.

Aroma: typically Asian beer style, with some light grains and rice aroma.

Taste: grains and rice with some light citric hops. Fairly simple.

Aftertaste: follows the same flavours. Doesn't linger long, but it's a sessional, so that's fine by me.

Mouthfeel: great for the style - light body and higher carbonation. Goes down easy.

Overall: another example of a simple, cheap Asian grain and rice hybrid lager. Not brilliant, but a good quaffer for those hot days when you just need something refreshing.

Yanjing pours a pale straw with a thin head. The aroma is mildly grainy with a hint of malt. The flavor is better than expected, there is a light sweet malty flavor with less graininess. No real hops or bitterness. Overall not a terrible light lager but nothing to seek out.
