Asahi Super Dry is Japan's best- selling beer and it's definitely a beer made for the masses. This product is light in color, light in flavor, and light in aroma. In other words, it's a beer tailor- made to compete with the big brewery products of the world that all strive to make a beer as inoffensive as possible. It pours to a light straw color with perfect clarity and plenty of initial bubbling action that eventually settles into an even flow of carbonation and a thin coating of white foam. The aroma of this beer is paper- like, grassy, and not that enticing.
With virtually nothing in the appearance to make you think that Asahi Super Dry will be good to drink, the beer has nowhere to go but up. Unfortunately, it doesn't get any better. The most dominant flavors are corn, light grains, and rice. The body of the beer is thin and it finishes with the slightest hint of grassy hops, followed by a dry sensation, then an aftertaste of sweet grains and a small touch of apple.
Asahi Super Dry is very direct and simple, with the smallest amount of malt and hops necessary to make it legally permissible to call it beer. The flavor is adjunct- laden, with light grain as the primary taste and almost no hop taste at all. There is the slightest taste of grassy hops but they are flushed away quickly as you drink, leaving behind the taste of light, sweet malt. It is easy drinking, that is for certain. But it is no better than other macro- brewed beers and it should be avoided if possible.
