This beer won Gold Medal at the 22nd annual Great American Beer Fest. It is made with up to 50% wheat malt instead of all malted barley which lends a lighter note. lt is deep gold in color with a very low hop bitterness level and a dense head of white foam. This is a traditional unfiltered Bavarian wheat beer with aromatic hints of banana and clove. It is traditionally enjoyed as the summer beer of choice in Bavaria.

No freshness date on bottle, poured into a pint glass.
A: Pale yellow/gold in color, initial thin white head that quickly dissipates to nothing with no lacing.
S: Strong wheaty citrus and some light hops. Spices and coriander abound. Tangy and sweet nose.
T: Vanilla, orange, coriander, spicy sourdough, clove and wheat. The flavor rushes through the mouth and leaves a tingly and malty aftertaste lingering for a long time. A minimal and pleasing hop balance to the characteristic hefewizen tastes.
M: Surprisingly smooth, this beer ends smoother than some fine German beers that have been brewed in this style for hundreds of years. Whether or not the high smoothness is good is up to the individual's opinion, and will not affect the score for this beer.
D: Very drinkable; crisp and refreshing without being thin.
Overall: A very good hefe. I strongly recommend you drink a bottle if you can get your hands on one. Would be nice paired with some light crackers and sharp cheddar cheese.

Pours a hazy orange gold with a half finger of head that settles to a thin cap with layers of lacing. Aroma of citrus and banana. Taste follows nose. Clean and refreshing.

Much better on draft than in bottle. Ratings are for draft beer which is the best beer I've drunk in the USA. Golden color with plenty, but not excessive head. Slightly hazy with a bit of fresh-baked bread aroma. Classic banana hefeweizen finish.

So right off the bat, I don't really think there is both a "horseshoe" version of this, and the regular version. They look to be the same thing. I had this over 20 years ago, and then recently in May 2020.
Pours a slightly darker than average hefe, coming in with some amber alongside the darker golden color wise. Head formation was about 1/2", I think hefe usually calls for a bigger, fluffier head. The consistency was cloudy, but again, darker than average. The aroma hit some banana hefe yeast notes without going all in on the clove or spice rack.
Taste and mouth feel hits those smooth banana strides. Minimal bitterness commercial tug job has a light brassiness to it actually. Light almost sour mash like feel to it, actually dig it a little bit. Carbonation might be a hint lower. A little bit of citrus rind feel wise that could contribute to the perceived bitterness being above style norms. Does seem to have that equal parts barley and wheat aspect. I dunno, this was getting difficult to drink for something that is 4.5%, thought it would be a little easier going.
