Style | ABV
English Porter |  7.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
A very dark and full-bodied ale with its rich flavor coming from the caramel and dark roasted malts used to brew it. This traditional English ale exhibits coffee-like taste notes combined with definite hop bitterness and full malty flavor.

Pullman Porter is a deep, dark brown to black beer that pours a nice beige head, with generous lace coating the sides of the glass. The aroma of caramel, coffee, roasted grains is quite evident. The start is sweet malt, the top full, creamy and rich while the finish comes nicely hopped, slightly acidic, with moderate carbonation. The aftertaste is pleasantly dry. Pullman Porter is a very pleasing beer that contains all top-notch ingredients and exhibits the fine characteristics of the "master brewers art". Available on draught and with very limited distribution, means you need to visit the beautiful "Red Rock" country in Northeast Arizona to experience the magic.

I spent the week in Sedona Arizona and tried the Oak Creek brews both at the brewery itself as well as at a lot of the other local places. I had this as part of a sampler and am basing this review on the three or four ounces I sampled. This was perhaps my least favorite of the bunch. It looked like a porter but didnt' have any of the qualities I like best in in this style. There was no smokiness, not enough malt character, no hops to speak of. The color was a dark brown to black, head was light for a porter. Flavor and aroma were a little bland. Overall, not the best of the bunch.

Got this one as I was finishing my meal at the Sedona brewery and had already had an amber. Nice dark brown appearance, a quarter inch of light brown head. Smells of smoke and malt. Tastes initially of roasted malt and smoke, but this is soon interrupted by an unfortunate Robitusen flavor that really spoiled things for me. I was able to finish the beer, but that cough syrupy flavor is a flaw in my opinion. Nice smooth mouthfeel, but the lingering Robitusen aftertaste was not so great.

Growler to a snifter.

A - dark brown, but not dark enough. Looks a little "lite" and bodyless.

S - coffee, roasted malt, bread and cinnamon.

T - coffee and malt, but both are weak. There are a few flavors. but each seem flat and muddled.

M - good carbonation and pleasant presence on the palate.

D - low enough ABV and good mouthfeel make this one an easy drinker, but the lack of body will leave it second to many.
