Winner of both the Gold and Bronze Medal in the North American Brewers' Association competition. This northern Arizona favorite has a consistent nutty flavor with just a hint of spice in its depths. A slowly emerging bitterness crops up along the way and is unobtrusively incorporated into the smooth flow. It finishes with a gentle nuttiness and spiciness.

In the glass deep amber brew with a small tan head.
Notes of roast, bread and dark fruit.
Hop bitterness, mild and not sweet. Caramel notes too.
Low flavor profile for me, could use some chocolate notes.
Light feel, a bit watery.

Solid Brown Ale. I drink a lot of brown ales and I like the take on this one. I'm thinking the hop profile might be off-putting to some, but I think it's a crusher. Sipping in my snifter at the moment.

Picked up a 6 pack of this from a trip to Arizona years ago.

Here comes one of my favorite lines from the appearance category: Brown ale pours brown! Lighter colored brown head 1/3". The aroma hits the nutty commercial tug job. Fire up some earthy dirt notes from around a campfire.

Taste was equal parts red ale and brown ale. Still clung to the earth dirt notion, and I don't mean that in a pejorative way. Didn't get anything resembling a spice note. Probably wouldn't have made sense anyways had it been there. A slight metallic bitterness to it. Has a relatively thin body but that is expected for style and geographic realities in an Arizona desert. Its a substantial step above Newcastle, as there is a sufficient amount of malt to it, even if it isn't all that roasty. A lower abv might help avoid some of that kinda clashing metallic and lightly fruity aspect to it as it warms. I guess I would recommend if you were a huge brown ale guy and in Arizona. Otherwise, its just a beer in the middle.

We suspect that this batch was seriously mis-brewed. We have had nut brown countless times before, and this was incredibly weak, an amber color instead of brown, and had none of the nutty, and earthy flavors we associate with a true nut brown. We will have it come back tot his one later to make sure we aren't wrong about this suspicion.
