I poured this into my 50 cl after trying another Tripel, while my wife and I were standing around in the kitchen talking about our newly adopted (from the pet-shelter) 25 lb cat, Moe.

We agreed with the first pour into our glasses that the head was large with the scent of honey and hops. I could also smell citrus flavors as I went nose first into the light orange ale.

The taste was very much in character with other Belgian Tripels I have tasted in the recent past with the smooth cream accenting the honey/lemon water that went dry with hops.

I thought the ale would be great on tap as well as with fat cold cut laden sandwiches this fall at the various college games where I be tailgating.

A golden pour with a very generous, white, foamy head. Lots of bubbles going on here. The nose is light and floral with a champagne yeast hint. The mouthfeel is smooth with a dry finish. The taste is mildly sweet with honey and has a nice warm alcohol dryness to it. A little light on the tongue but not to a fault. Overall a decent triple although not in the class of lets say, Westmalle.

Appearance – Exceptionally cloudy light yellow body with a gigantic head.

Smell – The typical malt and orange aromas come out well. There’s a little sour funk though typical of this brewery.

Taste – The malt base is strong and supportive. The (predominantly) orange sweetness lies on top as well. The Petrus sourness comes by for a visit, too.

Mouthfeel – Medium-bodied but slow going.

Drinkability – This wasn’t the best drinker of the bunch.

Comments – Their Aged Pale offering capitalized well on the stingy, sour malt flavor of this brewery, but here it just didn’t belong.

7.4 oz bottle poured a mostly clear, golden amber body. Head is magnificent, with a two finger, billowy offwhite color. The head slowly fades, and beautiful Brussels sheet lace is all over the goblet.

Aroma features tangerine, lemon, coriander, and a twangy yeast note.

Mouthfeel is tart and dry, moderately carbonated.

Taste is dry and citrusy sour, with a prominent yeasty presence. Not many complexities here, even at room temperature. Lemon and coriander are overwhelmed by the dryness and strong, "twangy" yeast.

Fares poorly when compared to other Belgian Tripels. This is not one that I would try again.

On tap at the Gingerman NYC. Poured almond, semi cloudy, white head, tightly bubbled with well developed lacing. Nose of Peaches , toast and bubblegum. Alcohol noted, slight sourness/tartness, nutty center, unusual triple. The sourness was abit offsetting. Worth a try but not my favorite triple.

Purchased at Ayottes in Hudson, NH February 27, 2009, drank Friday, March 6, 2009. Caged/corked bottle

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bright vanilla pudding yellow body, huge frothy white head four fingers tall. Still lingering and clinging to the glass for dear life.

Smells funky, with some straw characteristics. Almost like an American macro that has past it's prime, but somehow not as adversive as that sounds.

Tastes a bit funky, sour and of straw. Farm-like, but not farm house.

Highly carbonated, sticky mouthfeel and bitter at the end.

Not a very smooth drinking beer, or one that was very memorable. I'm glad I was able to try it, but won't be looking for this one again.

The beer pours a clear yellow color with a huge white head. The aroma has a good bit of biscuit malt as well as a ton of floral and berry-like hop notes. The flavor is very similar. I get a lot of biscuit and grain notes, with some floral notes. There is also a good dose of grass from the hops. The beer is not too sweet and the alcohol is noticeable, but not overpowering. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bought on sale for $3.75 from a beer store in Hunt Valley. Reviewed from notes. Poured from an 11.2oz bottle into a standard pint glass. Massive 4 finger head, great head retention and very nice lace. Cloudy golden yellow in color.

Nose- Little hops, cloves, sweetness in the nose like from a flower. Smells like a very solid tripel.

Palate- Lemon zest, citrus. Very active and fine carbonation. Belgian yeast. Slight sweetness. Clove is fairly prominent. Very mild hop profile. Decent, moderately long finish, fairly dry. Booze is well hidden.

Mouthfeel- A bit thin, dry. Very active carbonation.

Drinkability- Fair at 7%, however can be hard to locate.

A caveat before beginning my review: when I opened my bottle, it foamed over for a full two minutes, reducing the amount of leftover beer in the bottle by roughly a quarter. I've rarely had this happen before, and don't have a second bottle to see if this is the result of something I did, or something to do with the beer itself. All I can say is that I pulled it out of the fridge and opened it--there were no drops or shakes or jarring motions.

Having said that, and hoping that the foaming didn't affect the taste, this tripel carries many of the expected aromas for the style: malty sugars and fruits, especially berries, orange and apricot, and smells a lot like a nice champagne.

On the tongue, many of the same flavors dominate, the ale being especially heavy on orange and coriander notes, with a few other light fruit esters thrown in. Some dark brown sugars reside in the background, as well as a good light smattering of hops and a thread of lightly toasted grains.

It is, in other words, a good beer, and well-deserving of the high ratings it's garnered. I'm not sure that it necessarily brings anything new to the table for a tripel, but it does easily rank among the better ales available in this style.

I ordered this beer at the Sharp Edge Creekhouse to complement my Chimay cheese plate. Wow, I never thought cheese could be that complex, but hey what a great pairing with beer. Anyway this beer appears a vibrant glowing gold with an orange tint to it, along with a bright white foaming head. Aroma is huge malty sweetness with great carmel tones, and definite touch of alcohol in the aroma. The taste is full of ester fruit tones that are trademarks of Belgium tirppel ales, but this one is not overly sweet or to overempowering in any way a beautifully balanced beer. Nicely carbonated with a slightly syrupy mouthfeel what an extraordinary beer. Yes, it is way too drinkable I could chill with this beer anytime, awesome.

A- The beer pours a full glass of off-white foam that eventually boils down to a clear golden yellow body with a gentle carbonation of tiny bubbles.

S- Notes of nectarine skins in the yeasty esters that finishes with some wet stone notes and some ripe fruit notes in the finish.

T- The dry stone fruit flavor has a jam quality to it with some soapy flavors to follow. The taste is very quick with a clean finish brought on by the tight fizz. There is some dry green hops has some unripe fruit notes to it.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a full fizz in the mouth with no real alcohol heat noticed.

O- The nice blend of subtle flavors is nice but it is missing more of the classic yeasty flavor or malt or hops that would make this beer a bit more tasty.

An aggressive pfffssssttt upon opening the bottle. The beer pours with as much head as there is beer. My glass is perfectly full of half toasted golden blond liquid and half off white spongy head. Watching the head slowly break down reminds me of the many reasons I love beer. Beautiful. There is a turbulent carbonation that rockets through the translucent liquid.

Smell is like crisp fresh cut green apples mixed with a little champagne. There is an initial sweet nose with a sour pucker at the end of a long whiff. There is a grainy smell that is a mix of cereals, yeast and fruit.

Taste and mouthfeel is impressively creamy. The flavors associated with the smell is muted by a dominate yeast breadiness. It's smooth and silky but dull in the flavor department. There is a mild bitterness but it's underneath a bread blanket.

A satisfying beer but one that's lacking in the flavor department. I like the powdery finish but wish there was more there to back up the look, scent and feel.

The bottle I have came out of a Winter Gift Pack and is labeled Petrus Gouden Tripel Ale.
Pours a pale golden yellow with a nice full finger of white that melts to sticky lacing covering the top of the glass.
Aromas are very atypical Belgium yeasts, a little peppery spice, and powdery bread.
The taste is again, typically Belgium....sharp bite from carbonation and citrus, a lttle pepper, and sweet malts fill the mouth. Definite candy sugars in there.
Aftertaste is clean.
This is a decent triple...but doesn't hold up to the best at all.

750 ML bottle, gold foil over cage & cork. Is that a Belgian Santa on the lable? He sure looks jolly enough!

Light gold, with white and yellow hues. a bright wheat field in the summer coms to mind. slightly hazy, which is expected and understood. The pour was tough, and at only 45 degree's you would not expect an "explosive" pour, but alas...even a very gentle pour amounted to a shit-load of foam. It piled up fast, even in the Chimay Goblet. Oh well, I'm not in a rush. The solid white head rises at least 5" high, when it settles, it's clumpy with a milky crown. It healthy, but the yeast is crazy.

The nose has an abundance of robust yeast aroma's, spices, dried earth and leaves, musty and hearty wheat. a certain sourness adds fermented white grapes, banana's ans cream, sweet tart candies and a light, sweet malt way in the back.

The flavor in one word is: Sublime. The balance of the flavor's stands out as the best quality. The Yeast is very flavorful, a takes most of the flavor spectrum, and that's just fine because it gives it an earthy, hearty flavor, hot wheat, musty earth, all-spice, herbs and gentle dried fruits. The malt comes in crisp and very, very clean feeling adding a crispness that is very delicate on the palate. The hops are subtle and add further earthiness and spice right at the end and rides in with a well-adjusted heat that adds warmth and a slight bite. This flavor's create a very nice, intricate groove that is tight.

Spot-on style-wise, and it delivers a very clean experience.

A bit creamy, but little douginess and yeastiness for a triple. a prominent metallic wateriness that didn't prevent drinking but left an unsatisfying aftertaste. Some spice, lemongrass and corriander, berries not too alcoholic. Too malty sweet. Reasonable nice lacy appearance.

Pours out a hazy yellow brew with super foaming head..Super carbonated.Smells to me like a hefeweizen,,clovey and banana notes.No hops smell that i can distinguish. Estery slightly tart,,good beer. Tiny bit watery mouthfeel. A pretty drinkable Tripel.

Bavik produces a very basic, but clean and well-brewed tripel under the Petrus brand name. It pours a clear yellow-gold body beneath a creamy head of bright-white foam that seems to hold forever. The lacing is pretty incredible as well, with high walls of bubbly but solid froth. The nose is limited to some yeastiness with an edge of fruitiness over a lightly sweet and wheatish graininess. In the mouth it's medium-light bodied and gently effervescent with a somewhat elevated, natural carbonation. The flavor is as the aroma suggests without much more: yeast enters at the front, followed by some slightly tart but mild red fruit; and then some mildly sweet hay-like malt appears before it finishes with a flourish of yeasty acidity (with a spritz of lemon), a flick of flinty bitterness, and a smear of leafy and spicy hops that linger along with some mild alcohol. Overall it's a pretty decent, straight-forward tripel; but there are so many more complex versions out there that it hardly seems worth the effort.

The little bottle bothered me. If it's good, please put it in a 22oz instead of a little 8.4 oz please. Nice yellow color, good carbonation. It had a good crisp taste, although the ABV was quite prevalent. Could have used more hops. Overrall, a good beer.

pours a deep golden with and impressive fluffy white head. smells malty and sweet, strong yeast aroma hits and then end with a small alcohol note. very sweet in the mouth, no real spice to be found. lots of malt character with a hint of lemon in the finishes. not all that complex and not like other triples ive had. slick in the mouth, not highly carbonated like some. pretty drinkable, just nothing to make you go "wow".

$1.99 for 8.4 oz.

Pours a chill-hazed honey color with 3+ fingers of billowy pearl-white head. Good head retention & average lacing

S: Tropical fruit, grassyness & lemon, some green banana

T: Sweet breadyness, a touch of ripe banana, a kiss of pineapple up front. Apple peel creeps in as this warms, along with mere pineapple &

MF: Medium bodied, fairly firm carbonation & decent balance, some grainyness

A Tripel that starts strong, but doesn't quite maintain greatness as it warms. Worth a try though

Poured into a wine glass from a 330 ml. bottle. After the Dubbel I figured I'd have said glass at the ready. Fail! A complete gusher of foam immediately billows out of the bottle. I think I'm down to about 7 ounces now, if that. Settles to a hazy yeast infused yellow with a brownish tint. Soapy inch of foam settles slowly.

Rich spicy nose yet without the clean fruity notes I would expect. Decent yeast presence.

Taste is of sweet grainy toast with a bit of spice on the finish. Very coarse for a Tripel. Sweetness is likely more notable than it might otherwise be given the carbonation issues, but alas, it is what it is in this glass and the feel is thin and watery as a result. Average drinkability as the sweetness masks the alcohol well but offers little nuance. 0 for 3 from Petrus so far.

Presentation: Poured from an 11.2 oz brown bottle into a Duvel chalice. Label depicts a very happy monk/God, holding a glass of this fine brew and an ornate key. Tagline lists this as "The key to heaven." There is a printed number on the back of the label, but it does not easily translate to any date.

Appearance: Pours with an amazing amount of head, literally a few millimeters of beer in the bottom the glass and the rest pure white foam. This after the bottle nearly explodes with foam just after cracking the cap. A very messy pour. The head finally settles to a few islands of foam, leaving behind spotty lacing. The beer itself is pale, cloudy, yellow with a few yeast chunks. Hard packed sediment remains in the bottle.

Smell: Sweet simple sugar smell upfront, with plenty of fruity esters. Bubblegum phenols and a slight tanginess in the finish.

Taste: Slightly sweet malt upfront, with undertones of citrus. Wheat flavors are very present in the middle, with hints of banana and clove. Mild bitterness of aged hops in the finish with a lingering slightly sweet tone.

Mouthfeel: Average carbonation level, maybe a low for a Belgian. Much of it must have bubbled of when I popped the cap initially. Body is decent.

Drinkability: After getting past the pain of trying to get this damn thing out of the bottle and into a glass, it was quite a pleasant brew. However, with so many nice ones out there, not sure I wills eek this one out again.

Hazy gold pour with surprisingly lame head for a Belgian brew. Aroma of bananas and honey, marred by a distinct mustiness. Taste is 'koyaanisqatsi', that is to say out of balance. Honey, metal, coriander and apple all muddled together as if dumped unceremoniously in an old pail. The more I taste, the less I want to. Possibly the worst Belgian ever... I am unable to finish this. Avoid.

Opening the bottle is like opening champagne, it blows up before you can even set the cap down. Smell is like a sweet cider and cheeses, though not as cheesey as the dubbel but it still has hints of the cheese. The taste is like apple pie with a mild cheddar with a malty bitter finish. Color is gold with a thick foamy head. Its definitely an experience to drink.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours pale yellow, almost brown/mustard with huge fizzy white foam, which settles down to an inch or so. Very active.

Lightly sweet and sour smell. Very faint. Taste is a belgianny flavor, but more hopped. Wheaty as well.

Tasty blend of a beer.
