Bottle with a BB date of 7/23/14.
A-Clear reddish brown with a fluffy sticky tan head.
S-Very beery, lots of alcohol and malt.
T-Brown notes of grainy toasted malt with a oaky characteristic evident.
M-Highly carbonated, medium bodied.
O-An interesting brew. Some sourness, lots of oaky wood flavor and brown notes. Not overwhelming and pretty easy to drink. An interesting style for sure. I think this is the first oud bruin that I've tried so don't have anything to compare it with. First thought is it's a decent change of pace but not a style of beer I'll be craving, but time will tell.

A: Nice brown colour, almost no head

S: Sour cherries, hint of wood, a bit like wine classic oud bruin

T: Basic the same as the taste, although a bit bland, the sourness turns sweet fairly fast, ther is something dusty at the end.

M: Under carbonated, a bit thin

O: It's a descent beer in it's style, but certainly not the best in it's style

From an 11.2 oz into a tulip.

A-The brew has a pretty dark cherry/cola color. It is mostly clear with a couple streams of visible carbonation to be seen. The head is dark tan and it fades pretty quickly from 1.5 fingers to a thin cap. The cap eventually leaves, too.

S-I picked up some cherries, vanilla, and lightly tart grapes. It is not nearly as sour as one might expect. In fact, the beer has more malty and sweet notes than true sour notes. Quite mild with just a little bit o funk and oak to convince you that, in fact, you are drinking an oud bruin.

T-Tastes follows the smell pretty closely. The vanilla grows a little as the beer warms, but the beer never becomes terribly complex and the lack of concentration in flavor lends a slightly watery component to it all. There is just a sweet mix of cherry, vanilla, and a light malted flavor with a sweet finish. Not unpleasant, but not on par with the better examples of the style.

M-Lighter to medium bodied with a carbonation that, while noticeable, doesn't seem to add much to the brew. A touch slick feeling when the beer gets close to room temperature.

O-This is not a bad beer, just not a great one. It lacks the complexity and intensity that I look for in this style. I suppose the cherry/vanilla components of this brew would pair with some blue cheese or something similarly sharp, but I did not find myself wanting to drink more.

another sampler pack with the petrus in it. the last one was bad and the beer exploded upon opening each of them (expensive!). this sampler pack is called "sour power" and includes six bottles of "sour" brews...
pours a very dark brown with no head (which worries me after that last sampler pack).
does not smell sour (worried more....); but does have a funky bad-malt aroma to it...
here comes the taste... acidic, fruity-sour. i guess 'tart' works for this description... i get a little grape, too.
medium body, low carbonation.
overall, this is okay. i dont like the smell as i take more sips, but i think i can finish this bottle. i have seen this before, and thought i had tried it before, but a lot of their bottles look alike. i really like the petrus aged ale which is the true "sour". as i drink a few more sips, i decide i can do these (maybe apprehensive/worried about that last spoiled sa,pler pack?) and it's a decent brew. a little surprised it's only 5.5% abv, but i can respect that....

A= Pours a deep brown color with a lively finger of head that falls fast to a ring around the glass leaving behind little lacing.

S= Smells like a strong tartness as well as a nice malty aroma. A little more malty than I expected.

T= The taste is very similar to the nose. Not overpoweringly tart. Quite mild actually. There is a nice malty sweetness that cuts the tartness and a little amount of barrel aging. There isn't too much else going on. A quite mild beer.

M= The mouth is very bubbly. A sort of bubble without flavor. Almost a seltzer water bubble.

O= This thing isn't quite what I was expecting. A little light on flavor for me. Little flavor and sort of watery. Reminds me of a tonic water actually. Check it out and judge for yourself.
