Poured in a Chimay chalice. Almost black no lights comes through. The smell is mostly coffee, licorice and alcohol.
Surprisingly almost no head with low carbonation, maybe my bottle was bad.
Taste burnt caramel and coffee. The alcohol taste is very pronounced. An ok dubbed

A: Dark brown with a rusty red tinge, slightly cloudy, lots of carbonation and a finger of cappuccino beige head.
S: Coke, dark fruits, dates, plums, raisins, figs, fruity like cherries, snow, slight metallic. Taffy, candy like.
T: Candy apple, dark fruits, dark burnt toasted notes, lightly sweet, again that Coke like quality. Crème brulee as in the caramelized sugar top, and cherries.
M: Thick, slightly syrupy body, lots of carbonation.
O: A nicely done dubbel. The slight burnt taste is taking it down a little for me, though its unique unto itself and certainly not the worst by Petrus I’ve tasted. Drank in Duncan, SC July 2nd 2014.

This beer was not all that bad. It had a decent taste to it. This beer was not too heavy or too light, it went down smooth. The taste was not all that bad. It was not too strong or too light. This is really all that I can remember about this beer, it has been so long since I have had this one. But if you have not had it you should try it. The thing that I remember the most about this beer is that I liked it.

From a 330 ml bottle (code says 41382) into a chalice. Reviewed from notes dated March 13, 2014.
A-A normal pour produces a thin tan head. The retention is pretty good as a thick cap lasts for more than two minutes. The beer is dark brown with reddish highlights. It is more clear than many dubbels.
S-The smell is a simple mixture of sweet tree fruits like apple cider and plum. There is a bit of cocoa in there, as well. For a beer with only 6.5% ABV, the medicinal, herbal aroma from the alcohol is surprisingly assertive and it feels out of place here.
T-The taste is also a bit simple. I get cocoa, vague suggestions of apple juice and plum, and some pepper on the finish. Fortunately, the medicinal, herbal character has been muted and the result is a simple, drinkable, unremarkable dubbel.
M-The aroma and smell might be a little lacking, but the mouthfeel here is quite good: medium body with a creamy, moderate level of carbonation. Well done.
O-This is a pretty simple dubbel and not one that I would go searching for again. The aroma has an off-putting herbal note that did not fit with the rest of the beer and while this low point is not as prevalent in the taste, the beer is just sort of uninspiring. Nice mouthfeel, for what that is worth.
