Poured into a large tulip glass a deeply hazed and milky orange/blonde with a nice looking two finger bone white head that left no lacing as it settled.Citrus fruits, yeasty phenols, and sweet alcohol in the nose,I liked the fruity tones and the alcohol was actually appetizing more than in your face.Starts out with a decent shot of citrus fruit but the spiced phenols play a big role along with fusel alcohol as it wars, thru it all the citric flavors are there wich I liked.Lightly tart and quite alcoholic I have to say I liked this beer, obviously nothing like the "smaller" version I gotta say i liked it more than most of the others.

Thanks to mar for sharing this bottle. This is review No. 2,600.

The beer pours a hazy orange color with a large white head. The aroma is has quite a bit of wheat in it, as well as some coriander and citrus notes. The flavor is more of the same. The wheat and coriander notes really stand out, although there is a little bit of lemon and orange as well. The yeast notes add some nice spice notes to the flavor. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Wittekerke Winter Wit
750 ml bottle, corked and caged
$8.24 @ State Line Liquors, Elkton, MD

Double wit... should be interesting as so many U.S. brewers are doing it now. Surprisingly cloudy, but I guess that makes sense. Amber-orange beneath a full head of creamy off-white froth. Excellent head retention and lacing. I can't find much in the nose with the massive head present, just some wheat and light spiciness. The flavor is more revealing. It's appropriately sweet without being overdone; honey-like. It takes the maltiness right to the edge of the slippery slope that leads into sticky sugars. Nicely restrained. The spice is present as well, clearly coriander driven with just a hint of orange peel. I also get a slight touch of chalky yeast; a suggestion of pepper; and some nutmeg, although I'm not suggesting there's nutmeg added, just that I'm finding the flavor. The alcohol never shows, but I do think it helps to clean up the otherwise possibly sticky-sweet finish. It's richly flavored without being overly full. Easy to drink. And although I don't normally mention the packaging because, really, it has nothing to do with the beer inside, it's attractive and people are drawn to it, making it a great holiday party beer. Worth trying for sure.

I love the look. Initially looks white coming out of the bottle before settling on a light milky orange. Looks rich and inviting. The head is white, but is fleeting. While the head is not that impressive, the lacing is.

Scents of Belgian yeast, coriander, orange peel, and a little bit of pepper fill the nose.

Could use a bit more spice and citrus in the flavor. Everything in the smell is there, it's just all very understated.

All the flavors are a bit disjointed, giving it a bit of a loose, watered down feel. It's barely sweet, then barely bitter, and then feels almost like a pilsner in the swallow.

I have no idea why this is a winter beer. It doesn't taste any different than any other wit. It's got good spices, but none of the smells or flavors are sharp and it gets knocked down in the score for it.

750mL bottle poured into a wine glass.

Appearance-Copper-Orange color with a fair cast of haze. Moderate off-white head with fair retention.

Aroma-Strong orange and coriander aroma with a slight vegetal celery character. Slight booze note blends with the orange to give an overall grand marnier impression. Also has light notes of peach esters and a touch of spritzy wheat.

Flavor-Sweet candied oranges and orangeblossom honey blend with a touch of soapy, perfumy coriander in the flavor. Finishes with orange and slight alcohol which once again reminds me of grand marnier. Finish carries low hop bitterness, a light acidic twang, and a touch of spicy hop character. Finishes rather dry and is quite refreshing.

Mouthfeel-Medium to medium full body with moderate to moderately high, smooth carbonations. I wish it were a bit more highly carbonated, but it still is quite refreshing.

Not bad on the whole-a beefed up Belgian wit for the holiday season. The coriander has a slight whiff of vegetal celery in the nose but otherwise it's pretty good.

Poured into an Evolution Brewing pint glass. No freshness date.

A- Pours a hazy, almost florescent, orange color with a ½ inch head that soon is just a thin ring around the edge of the glass plus moderate surface foam. Slippery lacing.

S- Seems a bit boozy and has that wheat/wet cardboard thing going on underneath.

T- Yeah, there’s no mistaking that “give” in flavor. Alcohol is the primary focus followed by the spices and wet paper taste against the diminished wheat body.

M- Feels like I’m drinking a Blue Moon with a jacked-up ABV. Medium carbonation.

O- I’ve pretty much given up on Witttekerke since having their sad excuse for a framboise and now this.

appearance : totally opaque; golden orange color; pours a decent fluffy white foam which dissipates to residue quickly.

smell : some citrus notes.

taste : citrus; spices have a certain taste of 'overextraction' to them, kinda acid-y; sweet but not too sweet thanks to the abv.

mouthfeel : my favorite part; has a cream soda-like roundness to the tongue; almost a little silty, just a bit thick.

A: A hazy orange color with a thin white head.

S: A sweet, citrus, floral, buttery, grain aroma.

T: Flavor a little bit worse than the smell, super sweet with an alcohol and citrus/floral flavor and lots of grain throughout. Seems like this started out as a nice wit and then corn was added to get the ABV up. I hate that grainy stale beer frat house floor aroma/taste.

M: Somewhat smooth with a lighter feel.

O: The flavor and aroma just isn't there for me. Was only $2 for a 750ml. Funny how my beer tasted and smelled like creamed corn and everybody elses was ok. Maybe it had just sat on the shelf too long?

Appearance: Large, dense off-white head crowns a hazy, yellow-brown body. Thin, unbroken, fine-beaded lacing adorns the glass walls. The head retains quite well.

Aroma: Deeply spicy aroma of bananas, apples, white bread, orange rind, coriander, and especially sweet alcohol.

Taste: Begins with sweet and spicy warming alcohol, soon followed by bitter apple rind, bananas, sweet orange rind and coriander. In the middle of the taste, sweet cookie dough flavors manifest. The relatively high ABV (7.5%) presents very well, being pleasantly warming, but without hot solvent notes. Late in the taste, there are some mildly bitter herbal hops, which linger on past the close of the taste.

Mouth feel: Smooth, velvety, and full, with slight carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: Quite nice, and a rather different take on a winter seasonal beer.

Presentation: Packaged in a twenty-five point four ounce Belgian-style bomber with a cork and cage, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Sourcing: Purchased at Cost Plus World Market in Texas for $6.99.

Poured from a bomber into a stein. Head was thin, but frothy. Little lacing.

Color was golden orange. Body was hazy.

Aroma was weak. Light wheat, fruit and a touch of sweetness.

Flavor was also weak. Wheat with apples, I think. Definite alcohol presence.

Mouthfeel is smooth, but short-lived.

Overall, I was disappointed. The brewer has done far better with other varieties. I will not buy another, there are too many other beers on the market.

750ml corked & caged. Pours hazy gold with a frothy white head and lots of tiny bubbles, Don Ho-style. Smells of oranges, sugar, and a bit of molases. Taste is grainy and surprisingly sharp given the smell. It is a bit metallic in the finish and really not very interesting. Mouthfeel is decent, with good carbonation. Overall, not really anything to interest me. Not terrible but naggingly not good.
