On tap at the Bier Abbey in Schenectady, NY.

Pours limp and red. Even before the glass is raised I can already smell a very tart, wonderfully smooth cherry aroma that's darn near New Glarus Belgian Red-level of crisp juiciness. Only the cherries here play up against nodes that are much more beerish than the Fruit Roll-Up flavors of NG's brew. The effect is sublime.

Tastes not *quite* as cherryish as it smells, but more varied. Dry up front, moving into gushing, moist cherry nodes and ending in a more traditional oud bruin bitter-tart brownness. Cherries linger far behind. Wonderful.

I got no idea why this isn't more revered.

Very sweet beer, almost like a hard cherry root beer. It has a nice deep ruby red color, a nice carbonation that creates small bubbles and leaves some foam. It will do as a great dessert beer due to the sweetness. I was not able to finish the bottle myself. If I had thought of it as a soda, I may have finished it, but under the stigma of a sweet beer, I had a hard time emptying the bottle.

Deep brown in color with red highlights, capped with a good amount of sand-colored foam. Retention are lacing are quite good. Cherry is prevalent on the nose but not overpowering. More of a sweet cherry-soda aroma. Otherwise, there's not much else going on, save for some musty, earthy notes and some bread crust. It's by no means offensive, but the aroma isn't anything special.

Things are more interesting on the palate. Cherry flavor is present but fairly well restrained. Rich, earthy maltiness is apparent initially, classic brown ale in character but no roast flavors. Then there's some light underlying tartness that livens things up a bit. More sweet than tart overall. The finish is dry and musty, a bit bland and uneventful. Mouthfeel earns this beer extra credit as the texture is exceedingly soft and smooth while being nicely carbonated.

While the nose hinted at an overly sweet fruit-forward beer, the flavor proved to be quite interesting. A good cherry Flemish ale that's enjoyable, if not earth-shattering.

$5.19 for an 11.2oz bottle @ Sicilianos. 8.5% ABV. Pours out to a brilliantly clear deep garnet, forming a large expanding light tan head with superior retention and solid sheets of lacing owing in part to it's brisk carbonation, ~3.5 carbs or so. The nose is immediately vinous, popping with tart red cherries. No real funk to speak of, just some faint dusty basement. The mouthfeel explodes on the tongue, almost like champagne, with a bright cherry acidity that is quite pleasant and a medium body. The taste is exceptional...loads of unadulterated fresh cherry juice, a little dark fruit in the middle, lightly sweet, with a very mild bitterness that is only perceptible in the aftertaste. Slightly earthy finish. This stuff goes down like candy. No perceptible off flavors or aromas. If you're a Brett lover, there is none here. The 8.5% is expertly hidden.

This is a great beer. I can see why it's so expensive because it requires a ton of fruit to make. Goes down way to easy. Liquid candy. I could easily throw 3 of these back no problem. Highly recommended.
