Reviewed from notes. Poured from 750 mL bottle into a Cigar City snifter.
A: Very dark red, nearly opaque with a small off-white to light tan head. A few bubbles of carbonation floating up the sides of the glass.
S: Sweet and tart cherries, candied cherries, vanilla oak, and what strikes me as some raspberries as well.
T: Sweet/tart cherries, some oak tannins. It seems too sweet and not tart enough, but I don't think the sweetness becomes cloying. Mild tartness on the exhale, with some alcohol heat.
M: Alcohol presence quite noticeable but not boozy. Sticky mouthfeel, medium body, and a reasonable amount of carbonation.
O: It's not bad, but I had really hoped for more. The sour and tart character I expected was mostly lacking. I'm wondering now if this should have been cellared for a period of time - but I don't expect that I'll be trying it out.

A: Cherry red and filtered on first pour, tons of fine bubbled carbonation and a 4 finger head of raspberry latte or beige with a pinkish tinge.
S: Cherries off the bat, some sour acidic qualities, sour cherry Jolly Ranchers candies. Some dark brown malty qualities.
T: Sweet and cherries, a sort of aspartame bitterness. A burn of alcohol in the throat.
M: Medium thick and syrupy with medium low carbonation. A sort of tart and sweet coating stays on the tongue.
O: Certainly not the best example of this style, it should be known that it is full of cherry in the smell and taste. Goudenband, La Folie, and Monk’s Café’s versions for example are neither cherry nor sweet forward as this is. Still its nice to try the style, and it makes me realize the boundaries of the style extends further than I’d realized. Bought at Bruisin Ales in Asheville.
