on draught at the yard house in west nyack, ny. Has a great, deep red color with no real head. From the glass, smells like cherry syrup. No real tart at all, very sweet with a sticky feel left on the roof of my mouth. Would pair well with the right foods, buttoo sweet for a pint

A- poured (unfortunately) into a pint glass at melt in Lakewood, deep garnet colored with only a thin ring of beige head.
S- aromas is dominated by lovely floral cherries
T- sweet/tart well balanced cherry flavor with just the slightest touch of balsamic vinegar and cherry menthol cough medicine, in a good way. Faint bitterness but no hop flavor.
MF- feels like 8%. Subdued but persistant carbonation fades in the throat. Coating fruit feeling like eating cherries. Not as acidic as suspected.
D- hey you're not a fruit beer are you! I like you.

Poured into a Petrus glass on 5/20/13
Deep ruby color with a hint of rustic brown and a one finger dirty rose colored head to top it off. The foam thins quickly and leaves some stringy lace.
The aroma is sweet and heavy like cherry concentrate with suggestions of other red fruits along the lines of cranberry and maybe pomegranate. It smells deeply sugary and in doing so essentially makes the aromas of the base beer indistinguishable.
A short-lived tartness takes hold with the first sip but the prominent cherry flavor soon turns to semi-sweetness (thankfully not so sugary as the aroma seems). The cherry is tempered by a fruit cake, nutty and earthy backing that dries out the sugars. A faint hint of alcohol creeps in every so often.
The sugar continues to translate in the feel acting as a thick glue between the medium body and patient carbonation.
The aroma had me nervous but this turned out well enough in the end. I'm glad I opted for the small bottle though.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 750 mL bottle into a Cigar City snifter.
A: Very dark red, nearly opaque with a small off-white to light tan head. A few bubbles of carbonation floating up the sides of the glass.
S: Sweet and tart cherries, candied cherries, vanilla oak, and what strikes me as some raspberries as well.
T: Sweet/tart cherries, some oak tannins. It seems too sweet and not tart enough, but I don't think the sweetness becomes cloying. Mild tartness on the exhale, with some alcohol heat.
M: Alcohol presence quite noticeable but not boozy. Sticky mouthfeel, medium body, and a reasonable amount of carbonation.
O: It's not bad, but I had really hoped for more. The sour and tart character I expected was mostly lacking. I'm wondering now if this should have been cellared for a period of time - but I don't expect that I'll be trying it out.

Petrus Aged Red
LOOK: Pours a dark cherry red, light pinkish head.
SMELL: Cherry juice. Cherry pie filling.
TASTE: Cherry juice, sweet malt flavor, cranberry, and an ever so slight tartness. This is almost like fruit juice. The cherries and malt prove to be a 1-2 punch of cloying sweetness. Could use some more sourness from the blend to set things off here.
FEEL: Smooth and lightly carbonated. Medium bodied feel, a touch of warming booze. Drinks easily given the strength. This is more of a fruit beer or malternative than a Flanders red.
OVERALL: A very mainstream, middle of the road offering in the Petrus line here. Its OK fruit beer, nothing special or something I'd look for again.

Pours a deep ruby red like color with a skim white head and leaves very little lace. The aroma is of cherries. The taste starts out with a sweet cherry flavor and then gives way to a tart okay cherry flavor. The mouth feel is moderately carbonated and sticky. Overall its a very good tasting beer but not very complex. Its an easy drink and one I will have again.
