A - Pours a very clear, bubbly amber with a one finger white head. no lacing.

S - Lots of grapefruit up front, lemon peel, slight toasted malt.

T - One dimensional. Moderate grapefruit and moderate malt. Not complex at all, But not bad either.

M - Medium, slightly watery body with almost no carbonation.

O - Overall, I noticed that a lot of people bash on this beer. Why? It's a good, easy drinking beer and nothing more. It would be great for somebody just getting into crafts.

I really enjoyed this IPA. Some will criticize for lack of complexity, but this beer is subtle beauty. Smooth, crisp. Not much head or lacing to speak of, but the taste is balanced and full throughout. The bitterness hides nicely behind hints of orange and spice. Sweet, spicy aftertastes lingers that I actually enjoyed, which I usually don't with an IPA. 6% abv= not overpowering but a appropriately detectable. The definition of solid/refreshing.

This beer is under-rated. I am enjoying a bottle made 14 months ago, and it's in great shape.

A: Pours a pleasant apricot body with a lasting head and a little lacing.
S: Modest. Grapefruit end of hops spectrum. Good intro to IPA.
T: Very balanced and I think better than other mass produced IPAs like Sams. Bold balanced caramel malt is the background for creamy grapefruit and pine resin over tones. Good food beer.
MF: Maybe it's the age, but this bottle has a great creamy, mineral water mouth feel.

You can rely on this steady beer.

An IPA for the masses- Henry Weinhard's Woodland IPA is even-keel and well balanced, its crisp and dry, and it doesn't promote the more polarizing hop taste as much as the dire hop heads will prefer. Its a fine IPA that doesn't command undue attention.

As the copper ale pours, it casts a slight haze that testifies to the beer's dry-hop character. It pushes forward with a partly frothy, partly zesty head that's stark-white in its semi-stern retention. Light lace trails on the glass as the its head character eventually collapses.

Grapefruit, grapefruit and more grapefruit becomes the focal point to aroma. Perhaps a whiff of orange peel and pine round out the hop contributions but its lightly toasted, lightly nutty caramel body allows the barley kernel to support the hops in the most timid of ways.

Its grainy-sweet upstart is again, toasty, nutty and somewhat husky while light caramel flavors greet the early palate. But then come the hops in the middle. The classic Pacific Northwest flavor of pink grapefruit soon overtakes the balance and ushers in a moderate citrus pith-type bitterness with light pine resin and torn leaf.

Its light body is felt after the carbonation chases away is upfront sweetness. But those bubbles scrub the tongue and provide a mild bite while promoting dryness, sharpness and a plaster-type mineral quality. Mild grain and hop astringency persist but hide nicely, tucked away behind the smoother hop bitterness.

Finishing with extended bitterness and grain husk, the ale otherwise is a pleasant and no-nonsense taste. On par with the Sam Adams and Yeungling brands, the ale is largely error-free but will lack the intensity of flavor to appease the seasoned craft beer veterans.
