From the 12 fl. oz. bottle DEC1012-B012011. sampled on February 8, 2013.

The pour was golden yellow with a high carbonation leading up to a lingering white fizzy head. That's the way I like pale lagers to look.

The aroma is rather flat with some corn, grains, vague sweetness, and a whiff of clean hops.

The body is light.

The taste draws out some grains and pale malts with a good, clean and off-dry finish. I mean it really fits the pale lager style but there is nothing extraordinary about it. It's just what should be expected and little more. Drinkable enough.

Pours a yellow, sunny color. Bright white head. Bubbly and crisp looking. The aroma is somewhat nutty, biscuity and corny. Grainy, little to no hops. Somewhat of a toasted grain taste, light sweetness and caramel with a nutty note. Where are those cascade hops? It's light, somewhat oily and crisp. Has a refreshing quality.

Too grainy, and no real complexity. Dime a dozen type of beer.

A - Clear, golden-yellow color with a one-finger, white head of bubbly foam. It left thin trails of lace.

S - Mostly caramel, grains and floral notes.

T - Slightly spicy with a good caramel and grain flavor. Some bread crust.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light to medium bodied lager.

O - This is a nice lager, but it really didn't wow me.

look: 2.5 | smell: 1.5 | taste: 2 | feel: 2.25 | overall: 1.75

Appearance: Pours a transparent yellow to golden color…white head, about a finger thick, is firm and somewhat lasting…minimal bubble action…thin and watery…(2.5/5)

Smell: Bitter, not hoppy bitter, skunky bitter…very light wheat, kinda corny…super basic…(1.5/5)

Taste: A light wheat and malt taste…very watery…(2/5)

Mouthfeel: Very light and pretty crisp, but there is a surprising amount of carbonation…nothing that lasts or forms cotton candy, but it does exist and that’s saying something (for this beer)…some malty, bitter after taste, but this beer pretty much comes and goes…(2.25/5)

Overall: Watery…I guess this is a lager, as I don’t often dabble too much into this category…it’s very watery and real basic…no flavor beyond the light wheat and corn and it doesn’t leave much of an impression on the palette…very little experimentation here, it’s just “beer”…i would suspect that most home brewers can make a similar tasting ale…if you like lagers, this one is crisp and clean and drinkable, but if you are wanting for flavor, don’t look here…(1.75/5)

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a light amount of carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down a bit but consistently left a thin head covering the surface.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of corn and grainy malts in the nose. The corn subsides a little as the beer warms up.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, except that the corn isn't as prominent and there are also notes of pale malts and a slight amount of carbonation.
M: It feels light-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: Nothing really stands out about the smell or taste of this beer but it is rather easy to drink.

Poured from a brown1 2 oz. bottle. Has a pale yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of grains and malts. Taste is light, mild, some malts and grains, refreshing but a bit on the weak side. Feels light in the mouth and overall, while not terrible, is just meh.

SMELL: Lager yeast and sweet pale malts.

TASTE: Mildly bitter piney hop and lagery yeast strain. A one-two punch of bread and bitterness.

FEEL: Light to medium bodied, Ok carbonation.

Picked this up in a pick your own six. Yellow in color and with a light and quick moving head.
Odor is a little light. Smells kind of bland and grain like.
Taste is light as well. Not as bland as the odor though. Some hops but not really enough for them to stand out. Relatively balanced throughout, but does not stand out. Has a pretty good finish however. Mouth feel is a little dull and thin.
Overall, not a bad beer. However it does leave you wanting a little overall. Just about average. More like a light beer.

Pours a clean deep yellow color with a white head. In the aroma, sweet grains to a small dry end. In the taste, sweeter across the board and a small pine hop. A small bite and medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a dry and somewhat lager like after taste. Cascade hops and a bigger body than a lager, but quite lager like.

Appearance: Pours slightly hazy copper color about a one inch head (a small amount of which retains while drinking the beer). It also has excellent lacing.

Smell: The sweet, malty smell overpowers the hops in the aroma, but you can still pick up on the hops slightly.

Taste: Starts with a sweet flavor (hints of caramel) that quickly transitions into the hops (with hints of pine) and then finishes with a bitter taste.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, good carbonation, light to medium bodied.

Overall: Smooth and drinkable, a bit bitter on the finish but because of the sweet spin on the taste it’s a nice take on an IPA that I definitely enjoyed sampling. This would be a good beer for newcomers just starting out on craft beers.

Clear, pale hay color. A handful of strings of bubbles rising to this thin layer o' foam film.

Crisp hay and grass with barely toasted malt make up the the simple, yet satisfying aroma.

Grass, crackers, hay, with a crsip and pleasant palate. This is a lager meant for easy and enjoyable drinking and enjoyment. Good for after a long days work, or relaxing with friends and shooting the shit.

Purchased in a mix-a-six, at the local Kroger.
Big disappointment!

Boring pale lager: straw in color, thin head with little retention; highly carbonated just like other examples of the style.

Cascade hops at the finish; wet grain from start to middle

Smells like fizzy soda

Mouthfeel: thin and watery

Overall, not bad, but not good.

I would not have this again.
I am hoping that the amber and IPA are better from this brewery!

A: Pristine clarity with a bees wax yellow coloring shows a medium rise of effervesce. A chalky white head is milky and frothy, holds rather good, while supplimenting a wavery display of lace on the vessel.

S: Nose is very faint, corn, and not much else. Neutral. Label says brewed with cascade hops, they sure werent used for aromas sake. clean.

T: Flavor of corn and faint hops. Corny, dry and sweet but somewhat clean in execution at least. Some wheat and corn meal on the finish.

M: Frothy, alkaline mouthful, light to medium body, nothing special, not particularly crisp with an average amount of carbonation and corny like finish.

O: Overall very macro-like in execution. Cascade hops were sparingly used. A light drinking lager that may appeal to the BMC crowd but got a bit boring real fast for me. Aside from classic lager appearence which i thought was decent, this falls off significantly there-after. looks aint everything.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass

A: Poured a straw colored yellow with about a fingers worth of head that settles very quickly to nothing but leaves a little lacing as you drink it down.

S: I'm getting a little grass with hints of sweet corn and a little floral hops (very little).

T: I'm getting the sweet corn right up front with a touch of the grassy notes I was smelling. The finish is clean with a very slight bitterness.

M: Very light bodied, carbonation is not bad, pretty normal for the style.

O: Pretty average lager, nothing outstanding but not Bud. Pretty decent lager, would be good on a hot day just to quench your thirst.

Pours straw yellow with a thin head that eventually canishes with thin vanishing lacing.

Smells pretty much like a macro-lager with some grass and pear.

Like the smell, the taste is thin. Some sweetness with a pear-like dryness in the finish.

It is crisp and smooth - not too fizzy. Crisp and clean.

It claims to use Cascade hops, and I suppose they are there, but they are very mild. The whole lager is mild. Inoffensive, but not much different than cheap macro lagers.

Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve pours a pale yellow color with a thick white head from a brown twelve ounce bottle. It smells like a macro lager, perhaps a touch of citrus is noticeable. Tastes like a typical macro too, some cereal like flavors, just a hint of hops here. Actually, probably a bit more hop taste than most macros. Overall, very decent for a macro lager, unspectacular overall. Last one of these I drank had to be more than twenty years ago, the bottle and label have changed, the beer is largely the same, perhaps with some minor tweaks.

Something new I've never seen before, as they were really cheap I grabbed all three styles, amber, IPA, and this. Hopefully it's not too bad.

OH sh*t, twist off, already a terrible start. It pours a pasty white soda like fizzy head htat at least reaches 1/2 finger before quickly disappearing, over a crystal brilliantly clear, maybe the clearest beer I've ever seen, with just a hint of yellowish color, you can barely tell the beer is in the glass, and I'm not exaggerating!

Nose doesn't help it's cause, piss pore macro lager like, extremely light to start, and I mean Coors Light like lightness, with just a hint of corn adjunct, little skunky like unhappy yeast, and a faint hint of stale grassy hops.

Taste is at least existant, but not great. A slight step up from the macros, light malt base, a bit of a rice or corn like adjunct, touch of skunky rushed lager yeast flavor, although it is crisp and lager like, but light and airy. Again the slightest hint of grassy hops as if they threw a few old hops in that they stole from a bigger brewery after it came out of the batch already used, and thrown in the grass. Finish... I think it actually forgot to finish, except that there is a bit more skunky sticky flavor, somehow seems a bit syrupy, little metallic as well, and more adjunct like corn or something. Not so good.

Mouth is barely there, it's pretty thin and hard for my mouth to even detect it's presence, although it does have quite a bit of carbonation which is surprising for a twist off.

Overall, sigh, not even gonna finish this. The only two times I could see drinking this are frat party, or when you're dying of thirst after walking through the desert for 40 days and 40 nights with nothing but sandy water, then maybe this may be an improvement. I should have known at the price it was that it would suck. I'll probably pound through the other two some night when I can whip up a few reviews in a few minutes.

12 ounce bottle, with some sort of dating (best before?) etched onto the neck of the bottle. Dec1012

Private reserve American pale lager...whats wrong with this picture??

Pours very light and very clear. Minimal near white head, and just a few scant bits of fine lace.

Minimal grains on the nose.

Light in color, light in flavor. Crisp and yes easy drinking. On a warm summer day, many of these could be consumed and yes even enjoyed.

Bring on the warm days of summer and some spicy food.

Decent for the style is the best I can say here.

A pale yellow liquid with a white head floating atop.
Smell is a decent blend of malt and hops with a bready note and grass.

Medium bodied and smoother than most lagers by far. Somewhat fizzy carbonation. A decent lager but nothing great.

Clear, pale gold body with a very thin, short-lasting, fizzy head; very little carbonation in the glass. Light grain aroma. Thin, grainy flavor with a light hop bitterness. Light-bodied, crisp and dry finish.

An unexciting lager with little depth or complexity. Drinkable but not something to get fired-up about.

Pours a bright gold with no head into my glass. Ample carbonation. Looks interesting as it is. Hopefully it tastes good too.

Sweet, crisp, grainy. Wait, can you really put the last two together? Regardless, nothing out of the ordinary here.

Yep. Sweet and grainy here. Ordinary. Clean. I'd like to say drinkable as well. Then again, bud is supposedly drinkable as well.

Finishes with a touch of breadiness. Nothing offensive.

Better than their IPA that I had, despite the fact that they're different styles. I guess it's all in the approach and they approached this style admirably.

Picked up a 6'er of this at my local supermarket while there to pick up ingredients to make nachos. Had never tried any of the brews from Weinhard's, so was kind of curious as to what this would taste like.

Poured in to a pint glass, this looks like your average C-M-B macros. Smell wasn't anything special and the head from an aggressive pour was maybe two finger, which dissipated a little slower than your average macro. The taste, however, made up for the shortcomings of the presentation. First thing that struck me, which I haven't really seen noted on these reviews, was the spicy body. Kind of reminds me a bit of Sam Adam's Winter Lager, which is a spicy, winter brew. This one is spicy up front, with a bit of hop at the end, but not a lot. In between is a biscuit flavor that actually forms a good 3 pronged taste bud attack. This is a good winter beer, what with the spicy flavor.

Overall, a very good beer that really isn't a huge leap over the macros, but definitely won't be confused with them when somebody tries one. A good cold weather beer that I'll buy again at the $5.99 price for a 6'er. BTW...drank 3 of these with my nachos and they went great together. Easy drinking all the way.
