The George Schneider Brewery is at it again. A long lost recipe from before WWII gone from fire and bombing has been rediscovered. A true Oktoberfest Weissbier but with a twist! Edelweiss. More on that later.

The initial aroma of this sublime brew is of rich and hearty wheat with a hint of deep malt. A wee bit of citrus is included. The pour is a dark amber color with an average 2 finger head when poured correctly. Give the glass a true German tap with a friend at the bottom, and magic begins before the first taste. The carbonation begins to set things in motion as the smell and appearance change very subtly and for good reason.

The taste is truly what is intriguing. Hints of an authentic German Heffeweissen with the usual fruits and wheat sensations and falling seamlessly into those wonderful Cascade and Hallertauer hop fragrances and aromatic feel. Then as the hops begin to settle on comes this flowery sensation with a tiny hint of mint. It's the Edelweiss. Yup Edelweiss. A white sacred flower of Bavaria and of Rogers and Hammerstein's song in the Sound of Music. This little flower does something magical to this bier that is very special. It gives the bier a taste that can not be explained. You must try for yourself and see. Simply remarkable!

If you're in for something that is truly a work of art by master artisans, look no further. This bier is very special folks, very special indeed. "Edelweiss ...bless my homeland forever!"

Oh by the way, its completely organic, brewed in Munich and is certified by both the CCOF and the USDA.

Enjoyed cellar temperature in my weizen glass.

A pint pour produces a huge three-finger white cloud of a head over a very cloudy honey-orange. Beautiful.

This has one of those aromas that just makes me swoon. An absolutely fragrant mix of bananas, vanilla, peaches, lemon zest, nutmeg, cloves, the tiniest hint of haughty cinnamon, and rich, sweet white bread dough.

The flavor fulfills the aroma's tease excellently, presenting a harmonized balance of the sweet and tart fruits, with the banana, lemon, and yeasty bread coming to a climax in the finish. And as the finish dries, the spices from the aroma are just able to be detected as well. Bliss.

Carbonation is medium to high, body is medium to full. A direct relationship which works well.

To me, this hefeweizen is unmatched in its style.

A- Hearty yellow color, a bit cloudy, but on the less cloudy side of the spectrum for most wheat beers, long lasting head even with gentle pour. Poured, swirled, and finished pouring as is custom

S- Fairly spicy, picking up strong clove and spice, more burnt banana bread than actual banana in the background

T- Gentle nose, smoky clove in the middle, a little more clove/spice in the end with a hint of banana bread

M- Pleasant enough, very round and lingering finish

O- Quality brew, nothing really outstanding or overwhelming, but it is a pleasant drink with no real negative attributes. Would certainly drink again but I typically pursue beers with a bit more personality
