Pours a deep walnut brown with a billowing light beige creamy head that settles very slowly leaving two broken rings of lace as it settles into a frothy mass,a great pour.Chocolate and phenol spice in the nose with a little dark fruit as well giving some of the porterness to it.Chocolate and fruit mix well with the banana and clove-like phenol flavors,not heavy and/or alcoholic by any means,it goes down quite easy.Wow a great beer here,it obviously took some time and effort to make this from good craftsman.

Considered a weizenbock but only 7% ABV. Dark brown with a huge billowing head that persisted for several minutes. Aroma is burnt malt, caramel and loads of banana like a Bananas Foster. Taste is very smooth caramelized bananas with roasted malt consistent with the aroma. This is very close to Neshaminy Creek Dunks Ferry Dunkelweizen with somewhat less burnt grain and sweetness. In fact, I find it so close I wonder if the recipe is very similar. There is a huge amount of yeast sludge in the bottom which required considerable agitation to dislodge. This precipitate increased the intensity of the fruit and roasted malt character greatly, so I resorted to rinsing in with a small amount of water, something I usually avoid in fear of diluting the flavor. Very enjoyable but I would prefer the Neshaminy Creek Dunks Ferry Dunkelweizen which is less less than half the price and is more intense with a richer mouthfeel.

Appearance: dark brown, with an aggressive, dense head, cappuccino coloured

Aroma: banana, light spices, butter, vanilla

Taste & Mouthfeel: incredibly smooth and creamy mouthfeel; starts with light fruit flavours - banana, plum - finishes with light milk chocolate and coffee notes; medium body and carbonation

Overall presents a great blending of two styles, the interplay of fruit and roasty flavours is fantastic

Schneider Weisse Tap X Meine Porter Weisse

Notes: Deep mahogany brown body not unlike a porter. Full head of frothy tan foam not unlike a hefeweizen. Very good head retention and lacing. The aroma expresses bittersweet chocolate, roastiness, clove, dark fruit, and a hint of smokiness (that's probably a phenol coming from the yeast). The flavor follows suit and it's like a porter that's had dark fruits (plum, red grape, raisin) and cloves soaking in it. The chocolatey dark malts work extremely well with the darker fruit notes and clove, just as they do in so many dark Belgian ales, except that this is wizen-yeast based, and as such there's also some lower-level banana notes. Vanilla steps in as well, and combines with dark coffee to bring it back to the 'porter' side. At the very least it's interesting. Enjoyable.

750ml. Very murky dark brown pour, 3 fingers of nitro tap looking light tan head. Retained very very well.

Aroma, wheat malt, toasted malt, some toffee and fruitcake, lighter banana and clove.

Taste, The banana is huge in this one. Some bready malt, toffee, toasted nut. Grape must. Herb-y clove and some more banana.

Solid medium body, very creamy, very mouth coating. The best part of this brew. Drinks very easily. Very satisfying.

I just wish the banana was not so prevalent.

First , a big thanks to Herr Weixner and Frau Hecht From Schneider Weisse for directly sending me a bottle of this great beer to taste. I've been anxiously awaiting US distribution of this unique ale since I learned of it in December.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a goblet at 50F.

A: Again, the sexy curved TAP X bottle and the elegant packaging and hang tag enhance your anticipation of the beer which is to come. Pours a very dark murky brown with 3 or 4 fingers of creamy, dense mocha head. This is micro-bubble head which retains well and laces nicely as you drink the beer. Lively beer with great bottle conditioned carbonation streaming up from the bottom for the duration.

N: Lovely big yeasty nose hits you as soon as you pop the plastic sealed cap. It's got all you expect from a Schneider Dunkelweizen and the nose is fairly close to that of TAP 6 Unser Aventinus. Big banana and citrus, with a bit of clove and floral notes as well. Only the slightest bit of malty toastiness at the end.

T: Quite Interesing, and really a tale of two cities. Starts off with the big hefe and wheat beer lineage which hits you in a wave, but then pretty rapidly morphs into an English style Porter. Good roasted malts, mild coffee with hints of chocolate and nuttiness, slightly sweet. This is not an extreme American craft style porter with exaggerated coffee or char, but a straightforward and focused English style porter, benefiting from a 50/50 wheat/barley grain bill. Simple, refined quality. Successive sips confirm that one-two punch of hefe and porter; it's quite interesting how they've achieved that with almost seamless integration. A mild Hallertau and Cascade bitterness in the finish.

MF: Really enjoyable, with a creamy mouthfeel and a dry finish. No heat at all. Goes down great and very, very easy drinking. It's really gentle and soft on the palate.

O: I really enjoyed this beer and I think it's quite an interesting and successfully hybridized style. It's very well balanced and there's nothing objectionable about the way the two styles combine. This is not an overly complex or flashy beer, it's clean and straightforward.

When you're at Schneider Weiss and you've worked your way to the Aventinus, where do you go? Well, I was worried I'd pull an MJ (take your pick) and not retire when I should. Instead I ordered the Meine Porter and was not disappointed - and I consider the Aventinus to be about as good as beer gets.

On to the beer. It looks just like a porter should, dark with a creamy head. The head is a less creamy than the best, but still had a nice stack. The flavor is where this beer hits. I won't get into hype description, but in my opinion it has a perfect balance of weissbier and porter flavor with a perfect hop finish. This is a rare bavarian bier in that it has a hop finish of notice. More than excellent balance of flavors.

I sometimes get frustrated with the Munich staples/traditions of beer and am VERY happy to see something new that still feels within the traditions of balanced flavor. Well done Schneider Weiss!!!

Draft at Mirabell, served in a weizen glass.

Dark mahoghany, opaque with a frothy tan head that leaves behind nice drippy lacing.

Mellow aroma, light toast, dried fruit. Taste is similar, smooth and nutty, intensely creamy. Rich with a lingering aftertaste, fairly dry. Clear elements of a porter and weizenbock both on display. Very well made, and a harmonious blend in every way. Great stuff!

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a Brewer's Art goblet. Moderate hand. Dated 2014.

A: Dark brown body that appears opaque in the glass. 1.5 finger of dense, creamy tan head. Good retention. Moderate lacing.

S: Lightly roasted malt with notes of almonds, nuts, raisin. Accompanied by lesser wheat notes, banana, tropical fruit. Light cacao, coffee. Molasses. Faint noble-type hops.

T: Semi-sweet wheat and toasty malts kick off. Turns a tad tart before a gentle hop presence closes things out fairly dry. Lingering tang and nutty malt notes in the aftertaste. Alcohol presence is light.

M: Moderate carbonation with a medium body. Lightly creamy in texture. Smooth.

O: Very nice brew. Well integrated roasted/porter-type malt and wheat-fueled fruit. Complex and satisfying.
