Bottle number: No. 16641 2002
Appearance: With a loud phifffff, this brew pours into my glass about 90% head. After a minute, I manage to pour the rest in, and it fades to a full FOUR fingers of head! The body is a dark, hazy mahogany with a touch of plum. Five minutes after the pour, the head finally settles to a small cap. I'm impressed that such a potent brew can have such good head retention.
Smell: The nose is spicy and rich with lots of banana, clove, dark fruits, and alcohol. Through all that, I can smell the fresh tartness of the wheat. Fantastic aroma!
Taste: The flavor starts out big and spicy with lots of banana, clove, green apple, and chocolate, then moves on to a dark fruit note: plum and raison. There's a tartness from the wheat that is quite refreshing. Lots of breadiness from the yeast. Towards the end, a huge blast of alcohol clears away almost all memory of the aforementioned flavors with a warming sensation.
Mouthfeel: Rich and thick with an oily mouthfeel. The tail end is quite dry from the huge alcohol finish.
Drinkability: I can't remember any other brew this strong going down so easily! Take caution with this one, or the morning after will be ugly!
