A dense, almond head fills half an inch before slowly turning rocky over a very dark brown beer with thin streams of carbonation. Modest lacing is washed away by a viscous film on the Dogfish Head snifter.
The big, earthy aromas combine with a good dose of clove, some nutmeg and dried figs. Prune and a hint of smoked wood are also present and develop toward cigar smoke and vanilla bean. Aromas work together more as a concert of clear notes.
Fruity with big-time plum pudding with hard sauce, brandy and figs most prominent. Some barnyard flavors come out, as does pumpernickel bread. Sweet, with a good dose of alcohol. A long finish reveals hints of cherry.
A full-bodied beer with syrupy texture and lively carbonation. Slight astringency with alcohol as expected. Warming adds little.
A good sipping beer for a rainy day. Reminds me of Christmas dinner.

A: Dark maple syrup brown, cloudy, a finger of light beige head, opaque so can’t see any carbonation.
S: Very weizen like, dark fruits like dates and figs, ripe bananas, floral, black pepper, ripe banana peels, a slight fermented fruit.
T: Big weizen flavours, dark fruit, dates and figs, ripe bananas, tannic, sweet, big alcohol flavours, little bitterness. Brown sugar.
M: Thick, weighty syrupy body, medium high fine bubbled carbonation.
O: My first in this style. A strong beer that’s well done and a sipper, but very drinkable. Complex good flavours, reminiscent of a weizen.
