A: Pours a hazy mahogany color with less than a fingers worth of head that fades down to a very thin ring around the glass

S: Very concentrated fruity notes and well as some oaky notes and molasses. Fruits range from lighter fruits like apple and banana to darker fruits like raisin and fig. Quite intense overall

T: Starts off with the lighter fruity notes that include banana and assorted esters and phenolics, then quickly transitions into the wheat, dark fruits, and oaky notes. Rides on the oak and fruity notes into the finish, which includes a hint of the alcohol and a very light spiciness

M: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation

O: Certainly one of the best eisbocks out there, if not the best. It might not technically (<--stressed) be a style, but it certainly makes for an enjoyable and very sippable beverage. Definitely worth trying, especially if you're a fan of the original Aventinus

Dark brown / amber with insanely large coffee tinged head. Smells heavy, if that's a thing. Alcohol stands out, with cherry and fig. Malty, syrupy, chewy mouthfeel affects the taste. Sweet. Hints of honey, butter, treacle, bubble gum. Alcohol burn on the back end. Didn't notice the hops at all. Interesting. Definitely has more of a candy thing going on than most beers.

Poured into a tulip glass, dark brown, kinda murky, looks a lot like a cola. One finger head that faded quickly to nothing, no lacing. Aroma is somewhat wine-like, with some molasses, dark fruit, and sweet malt notes. The flavor is dried plums, figs, and some nice tart flavors. It has some qualities of a good quad, but with a lot more carbonation. The mouthfeel was thinner than I expected, but very nice on the palate. Overall, this is an outstanding beer, awesome in all respects- even my wife gives it the seal of approval!

I had been reading about eisbocks and finally got to try one.

A - Dingy brown color, almost like dirty river water. Very cloudy with yeast sediment in the bottle. Almost no head even with a vigorous poor. Not an ascetically pleasing beer at all.

S - Tons of scents coming off of this one with caramel, malt, clove, alcohol, and some banana. It's complex and diverse but I feel the alcohol burns my nostrils more than any other smells come to.

T - Basically as it smells with lots of flavor but the alcohol and the phenolic clove character are amplified, no doubt by the freeze distillation process. The secondary flavors are complex and full with bready, caramel, malt, vanilla, and banana. The sweetness was completely unbalanced without any bitterness. I tasted this at around 60 degrees which may have been the downfall since this really accentuated the alcohol burn.

M - Huge mouth-feel and without more carbonation the sweetness and alcohol burn just stick to your palate.

Overall, this could be a prime example of the style but I just don't prefer it. The thick, sweet, alcoholic character of this beer really did me no favors other than getting me tipsy after just one at 12.5% ABV. If you like to feel the burn or are just too curious you might want to give this one a try but in the end I won't be trying this again for quite some time.

I usually find beers this strong in alcohol content lacking in the personality and taste, but eisbock is surely an exception in my books. Eisbock has very fruity smell, taste is smooth and like smell, very fruity, sweet and has no bitterness or any of that spiky alcohol taste. Carbonation is medium or average.

Eisbock is one beautiful winter beer! Beer lovers will find this worth the buy hands down, but is also very approachable for everyday Joe seeking something new and warming for the cold winter evenings. Thumbs up!
