Pours a dark brown color with a nice two finger cocoa head on it. Good lacing in spite of the 12% abv. Very well carbonated, and the head sizzles down to a sliver over the first couple minutes. The nose is excellent, raisin, plum, prunes, malt, and slight hops are the main culprits. Really rich and complex nose.. Well balanced as well. Wow.. Then there's the taste. This is my first beer of this style, and I love the taste. Same profile as the nose, and where did they put the 12%abv?? The feel is rich, creamy, and complex... a total home run here. Overall, I love this beer. It's so complex and tasty that I will definitely have to search for this again. Cheers!

Served from the bottle into a flared tulip glass. Appearance dark brown with a light brown, creamy head that persists for awhile. Spotty lacing.

Smell is of caramel malt and bananas. Mmmmm, bananas foster!

Taste is sweet up front, with a bit of the banana in the middle. Bitterness is very low.

The mouthfeel is most impressive. It begins with medium body elevated by fine carbonation, and finishes with alchoholic warning with overtones of anise in the throat.

A fine winter warmer. Would never refuse this one, unless I was the designated driver.

A dense, almond head fills half an inch before slowly turning rocky over a very dark brown beer with thin streams of carbonation. Modest lacing is washed away by a viscous film on the Dogfish Head snifter.

The big, earthy aromas combine with a good dose of clove, some nutmeg and dried figs. Prune and a hint of smoked wood are also present and develop toward cigar smoke and vanilla bean. Aromas work together more as a concert of clear notes.

Fruity with big-time plum pudding with hard sauce, brandy and figs most prominent. Some barnyard flavors come out, as does pumpernickel bread. Sweet, with a good dose of alcohol. A long finish reveals hints of cherry.

A full-bodied beer with syrupy texture and lively carbonation. Slight astringency with alcohol as expected. Warming adds little.

A good sipping beer for a rainy day. Reminds me of Christmas dinner.

I had this beer in a weizen glass.

Appearance- The head is an off-white, chestnut color. The foam is very thick and creamy, about three-fingers in width. The lid is smooth with small craters of popped bubbles. The retention is pretty impressive.

The body is a dark amber with some copper highlights.

Smell- The warm booze is strong with this one. It is spicy and toasty malt sweet. There is a slight raisin and fig scent to it.

Taste- The beer is not nearly as warm as the nose promises, which is great. There is a nice sour plum at the start and more of the toasty and buttery malt.

There is a slight hint of cherries and raisins, along with a distinct earthiness. More sweet and slightly tart notes bring up the finish of the beer: slightly vanilla and dark cherries again.

Every drink is a new adventure, even more exhilarating than the last!

Mouth feel- What a great medium body! And so creamy it is almost able to be chewed. Just a joy to sip again and again.

Overall- This beer is pretty good and just keeps getting better with every sip. I would never believe this beer was twelve percent ABV by how well masked it is by the complex flavors. I would certainly have this again.

Pours the deepest, darkest ambery purple, with an inch and a half of fizzy head that dissipates fairly quickly.
Booze, cloves, and bananas on the nose. Did I mention the booze?
Big booze in the front, followed by clove-y, banana-y, yeasty, goodness, followed by more booze. The alcohol is definitely loud at this party, but compliments the big sweetness.
Great carbonation, thick.
This, and regular Aventinus hold a special place in my heart for being some of the first craft beer I've ever drank and they still hold up after all my experiences.

A: Pours a dirty brown with a creamy white head. The head is pretty thin and leaves a very tiny bit of lace on the glass. Looks amazing.

S: Smells like bubble gum at first. There is also some banana and a tiny tiny bit of malt. This is one of the best smelling beers I have ever had.

T: This tastes like bubble gum too. The sweetness blows me away and is very nice. There is also a nice amount of fruit and when the beer lingers on my palate long enough, I start to get a nice amount of malt.

M: Has a very awesome crispness to it. it tingles on the tongue and the back of the throat, which makes it very enjoyable.

O: This is for sure one of the best beers I have ever had in my life. It's so amazing I just can't get enough of it. Well worth the price.

Bottle purchased at Maruhn in Darmstadt, Hessen (Germany)

Pours a dark maroon with a big head that fades very quickly. Syrupy and quite viscous as it pours, it's almost like a sludge.

The nose hits you with a wallop of bubblegum, but there's also banana pudding and cotton candy along for the ride.

This is one rich and intense beer; it's not for the faint of heart! There is lots of banana up front which mixes with bubblegum and cotton candy flavors. The flavors evolve into a sweet lime yoghurt, finishing with a huge malt flavor boarding on banana bread.

Remarkably, despite the 13% ABV and the syrupy pour, this is not an overly sweet beer. It is well balanced and tremendously crafted. It's an absolute winner; highly recommended!
