Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle into a pub glass.
Appearance - a deep, dark brown, nice carbonation bubbles build a fluffy beige head. There is a ton of floating sediment! Lacing is excellent...glad I chose a pub glass for this session, because this beer looks amazing!
Smell - mango, pineapple, raisins, stone fruit, Hawaiian rolls, faint banana and cloves! Let the bottle sit for a while and take a whiff...smells like a blend of banana bread and bourbon!
Taste - dark fruit, spices, sweet and doughy malts, and sweet alcohol that is so smooth!
Feel - complex and flavorful, creamy and medium body, smooth alcohol!
Overall - big, tasty brew that doesn't disappoint!

The look of this beer is good, but it doesn't foretell its greatness. It's a deep, shining ruby-infused violet-brown with a tight, frothy cap of lightly tanned head reaching one finger. It shows very good retention and leaves good deposits of patching connected with thin webbing pretty far down the glass.
The smell offers the goodness of the Belgian yeast in good measure, not overdone, with the wheat backbone and a surprisingly unpunishing alcohol presence tingling the nostrils. The yeast brings all the banana, clove, gently musty earth and soft phenols I expect. It could be a little stronger, though it's still very nicely presented, and everything is in good measure.
Malts are an absolute beast on the tongue. Sweetness is the main component, but it's so deep, complex, well-integrated, balanced, and evened out by the other aspects that it just works phenomenally well without cloying at all. The flavor is also massively smooth and rich, decadent without being heavy. Earth, clove and soft spices, caramel and toffee come off a wheat backbone that adds a dry, crackery balance. There's also a bit of chocolate, and dark fruits are mostly sweet with a very nice almost overripe quality. There's some banana, of course, and in the middle the alcohol with the sweetness and fruits makes for a dark rum taste. A touch of hops adds the perfect balance, a hint of leaf both green and almost tobacco-like. As it begins to drink a little like a wine, the alcohol and huge complexity of flavors, along with the sweetness, make this beer very much like a port (one of my favorites).
Do yourself a favor and let this warm. It begins with a strongly prickling carbonation that, when it eases off, levels out into just about the smoothest drinking experience I've ever had. Crispness still adds liveliness but is perfectly even, but the richness, robustness and absolute silky smoothness of this beer is impressive. That the alcohol doesn't add massive heat, it's not overly cloying, and it doesn't display any one of dozens of flaws a beer like this could is testimony of brewing genius.

A: Cloudy, medium brown (like muddy water), with a hint of purple. Head is 2 fingers of khaki-colored foam, with good retention, but not much lacing.

S: Strong, fruity esters are the first thing I smell, with grape, banana, and apple dominating. As expected with the style, there's pepper and allspice. There's also malted grain, and a hint of urea (which is not as bad as it sounds, as it is faint).

T: Sweet, in a cloying way. Fruity notes include raisins and over-ripe banana. Cloves and other spices warm the tongue. I detect rum flavors as well. Buttery diacetyl smoothes out things late. Hops? Not so much; the finish is more sweet and fruity than bitter.

M: Smooth and creamy, with nice carbonation. The alcohol is overpowered by the other flavors at first, but the longer I drink it, the more boozy it becomes.

O: The "eis" (ice) part of Eisbock definitely adds potency to an already flavorful brew by concentrating the flavors and ethanol. A special occasion brew, to be consumed without food -- and with a friend -- to maximize the experience. This is really good!

11.2oz bottle poured into tulip.

A: Pours a very deep reddish-brown with a fizzy head that dissipates immediately.

S: Very sweet. Dark fruit, caramel, and booze.

T: Much like the smell. Extremely sweet and slightly tart up front, dark fruit, caramel, molasses, and a big boozieness. Way too sweet for me.

M: Medium body with high carbonation. The alcohol has a warming effect and provides a decent burn.

O: Being a fan of the original Aventinus, I thought I would find this more appealing. This is the first example of the 'Eisbock' style I've tried, so I don't have any direct comparisons. I can say that I much prefer the regular Aventinus and this one was just too sweet and boozy for my tastes.

L: Forgot this on is bottle conditioned - got some floats... Dark amber with a 1-finger off white head
A: Dark fruit, raisins, some booze
T: Follows the nose, definitely some heat and spice, nice bitterness
M: Warming, viscous - very full bodied
O: A great eisbock that is readily available - will be going back to this one time and again!

Murky brown color with a thick thin head, but that insists to stay that way forever and leaves lots of laces.
Incredible aroma of banana, red wine, mint, concentrated malt and dark fruits.
Surprising flavor of plums, Port Wine, pineapple, raisins, baked banana with caramelized sugar and cinnamon, sweet malt and wheat, figs, bold in spices, marzipan, molasses and wood. Quite dry, spicy and warming aftertaste.
Full rounded and creamy body with low carbonation. Starts smooth and gets rough with a nice warming feeling. Alcohol of 12% abv is tamed in a way that it is fairly easy to drink. Mild tartness and sticky feeling.
What an intense and extraordinary beer. I didn’t see that coming. Taste keeps mutating and revealing new fronts. Great sipper and highly recommendable.

Poured into my Schneider Weisse weizen glass.

A: Dark brown sugar caramelized bananas, much like bananas foster liquid, thinnest head even with a sloppy pour, semi-active carbonation is visible down bottom, some lacing.

S: Straight bananas foster: Sugar, brown sugar, and bananas.

T: Take Aventinus taste and put it on steroids. The brown sugar and banana flavor are so pure, realistic, and dominant. A nice bourbon alcohol note on the back-end that slightly burns as it goes down from your throat to your chest and warms while it lingers.

M: So creamy, very highly carbonated and bitey. Again, mellowed bourbon warming sensation that lingers in your chest for a while.

O: Love it. This is it. This is the best beer in the world. My first Eisbock, and now my absolute favorite beer. Schneider has earned the perfect score.

Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock. 12% ABV. I'm surprised by how much carbonation I hear.

A: About half a finger of head, which fades quickly. Very deep, dingy water brown. Dull yellow in the dimple, with ONE grey fleck.

S: Smells very malty! Rich, caramelized (almost burnt, but not quite) sap. Almost raisin-y.

T/MF: Wow! I was expecting it to be quite boozy, but it's not. Like, at all. More rich tree sap on the palate. Very sweet. Not in a sugary way, but in that deep caramelized malt sort of way. Has a sort of tamarind quality to the flavor, as well.

If I wanted something strong, I'd sooner go for Samichlaus, but this is quite easy to drink. I certainly would not guess this to be wheat-based, though.

I'll start by saying this beer was less than a year old, maybe it needs to be bottled longer.

A - Very dark brown, cloudy, almost no head.

S - Very nice nose, heavy banana, slight booze, peppery notes.

T - Still has the banana, but somewhat fruity, boozy, overall an outstanding taste for the abv.

M - Some carbonation, slight burn.

O - Very good beer with fairly intense flavor for a strong beer, worth it.

Pour is a murky brownish dark purple with a tight tan head. Nose is much like regular aventinus, lots of esters, banana, lemon. A hint of peppery spice with a good bit of dark berry fruits. Taste has a touch of booze through the finish, full bodied with strong carbonation and a light burn. Lots of dark berries, light banana and a touch of spice to it.

Appearance is dark brown and very cloudy. Nice tan cap.
Smell is just like that of a excellent dunkelweizen.
There is slight booziness to the taste and a lot of warmth.
Its like the their weizen bock with a kick.
Very thick and creamy.
This is a great beer, but with a doubt a sipper.

On tap at Novare as part of my up rising.

Serves in a Aventinus glass. The beer is cloudy amber with a dense off white/ tan head.

the nose is interesting, it has been a while sence I've had an Eisbock. I get a light fruitiness, more like fresh grapes than anything. The malt is prominant but not overwhelming.

the taste is a slight banana with other tropical fruits. The malt is there but there is also a noticible roastiness. There is a good amount of esters and alcohol.

Overall as I remeber the style very interesting but not for me.

Bottle 0,33l.
A-Dark brown with medium bottle carbonation. Thin white foam.
S-Huge fruit aroma,dark malt and caramel aroma.
T/M-Medium bitterness with sweet aftertaste. Low bitterness. Lots of malt taste in the mouth. Really special beer,close to classic abbey beers.

O- This is one of legend beers,try it once in a life at least.

A-Pours a dark brown. Big, dense head. Looks great. I wouldn't expect anything less from a German legend of a beer.

S-Aromatic invitations of dark fruit, bananas, moist bread and cocoa powder. A clean strike of alcohol. It's complex now, I bet 2 years of this aging would yield remarkable results.

T-An initially dry, wheat breadiness folds over upon the rush of sweetness. Dried out dark fruits and cocoa powder. Some spiciness. A hacking alcohol sting.

M-Clings to the palate somewhat. Hot and sticky-dry. It's very sweet but the booze saps your tongue of moisture. Subtle bubbles.

O/D-Another highly regarded overseas brew that I struggle to appreciate. It's good and the style is fairly rare to see. Still, I won't go out of my way to purchase again.

I've noticed that only one of Schneider Weisse's Brewpubs is listed here (the one in Kehlheim). They have a second one right near Marienplatz and the Hofbrauhaus in Munich!!! It's actually the original site of Schneider Weisse's brewery but due to bombing in WWII, they decided to move the brewing part to a more spacious location in Kehlheim. The Weisse Braeuhaus is the name of Schneider Weisse's brewpub in Munich and it's a institution with the locals for a very good reason: THEY CARRY the ENTIRE SELECTION of Schneider Weisse beers (even the limited edition ones) and they have amazing food as well- the cook there just came out with a cookbook containing rare collections of old German food recipes, most of which also feature either beer or organs as a main ingredient! http://www.schneider-weisse.de/index.php?lang=en&tpl=brauerei.brauhaeusser

Wow. This beer is ridiculously good. As soon as I opened this bottle my nose was hit with an aroma so fine that I had to continue savoring it for several moments before I poured it. As far as the pour, head, lacing, blah, blah, blah-- don't care. What came next was a taste that I can only describe as liquid ecstasy. There's just so much going on with the complex favors in this beer (and I won't pretend that I have a palate so refined that I can identify every one) yet it still goes down so damn smooth. The only negative for me was that the carbonation was slightly less than what I would have preferred, but that may have a lot to do with how smooth the beer felt-- So is it really a negative?
I've had a few beers in my day and this one has to rank in my top five.

A - Pours an incredibly muddy/murky brown with a thick, smooth looking finger of tan head.S

S - Lots of dates, sour cherries, boozyness, raisin and banana esthers. A bit sharp with the sour cherry/alcohol combo

T - Tons of dark fruit, yeasty banana type notes, light but bright orange, semi mediciny. Booze and cherry

M - Light/medium bodied but incredibly dense and silky on the tongue. Feel is fantastic

Poured dark brown with ruby hue. Foam quickly settled and disappeared. Light white ring. 70% opaque but clear and crisp looking. Moderate carbonation.
Aroma: Malty, raison, plum, molasses, cherry, banana and clove. Brandy-like.
Taste: Sweet malt, clove, cherry and plum. Bit of tartness in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Malty, wine-like. Minimal carbonation.
Overall: Smooth sipping beer to be enjoyed in a snifter. Complex flavors

A - Pours a murky, cola-esque colored brown with plenty of bubbling action and a slightly off-white, cream colored head. Excellent lacing.

S - I pick up banana, caramel, clove, dark sugars and a bit of booziness. Like a high-octane hefe with more malt. Great smell for this type of beer.

T - Rich dark sugar and caramel flavors with strong hints of hefe-esque banana. Almost bubbly in how everything comes together. A bit of heat comes through as well after the initial flavors fade. Very nice and strong!

M - Medium bodied with an aftertaste that really hits on the tongue and in the back of the mouth. A bit sweet and longlasting in the mouth. Easier drinking than a lot of 12-ers, but you will still feel the booze.

O - The Eisbock is definitely a top of the line and complex beer. While I prefer the more basic weizenbocks, this one definitely is worth a try. The flavors make it seem like your favorite hefe was loaded down with malts and alcohol. The blend is a complex one and this rewards patient sipping - even if it is pretty drinkable. As the bottle says, Prost!

Pours thick, turbid and brown. The color of dark brown sugar. Thin very off white head, that can be a bit thicker and creamier with a vigorous pour. Left a thin ring and nice legs. So pretty.Nose is banana and clove, a dark hefe nose. Malty, sweet bread, dark fruits. Not a trace of alcohol and a fresh plum. Smells deep and rich and as it warms caramel and toffee.

Taste is spectacular. It is creamy beyond description. Full, smooth mouthfeel. Malty and round. Banana. clove, dark fruits a bit of raisin comes forward. But, there is a fresh and bold fruit juiciness in this. It has a bit of tang, a little zip and this beer is not heavy in the drink. There is no alcohol on the palate except a mild edge in the finish and a warming in the chest as you swallow. Finishes dry sweet and fantastic.

This is a terrific style and while you will not drink 5 of these in a session it's worth seeking out.

Bottle purchased at Nathaniel Square Corner Store, in Rochester, NY. This seems like it'll be somewhat of a wheatwine/eisbock hybrid or something?

Pours a cloudy, hazy dark brown, with a one inch head, and lots of sticky lacing.

Smells like brown sugar, caramel, some wheat, plums, and booze.

The taste is similar, this is quite strong, as to expected with eisbocks. Surprisingly no banana, since the base beer for eisbocking is a weizenbock, but there are lots of dark fruits- raisins, plums, figs, almost like a Belgian strong dark ale, along with notes of wheat, caramel, and brown sugar, almost like a wheatwine. Lots of flavor that are slashed through by a rather huge alcohol sting.

Medium bodied, thick for a wheat beer. Low carbonation, sticky sweet mouthfeel. This one of the sweeter beers I've had.

This beer defies style classification, as it shares characteristics with a weizenbock, a Belgian strong dark ale, and a wheatwine/barleywine. For that, it is interesting. It is just hard to get past the booziness and the sweetness.

Poured into a snifter from a 330 ml bottle.

A- Hazy pale brown, faded and dusty looking. Tan head is loyal at about 1/4" Strings of lacing, and agitation produces legs, revealing how strong this one is.

S- A sweet combination of caramel and dark fruits. All fermented up to produce some booze notes.

T- A bit different than the smell. The fruit comes in with some boozed sting, but a bit of roast appears in the finish.

M- Full body, but not overly thick. Booze and roastiness, make the finish apparent.

O- Big, strong, and roasty. A great beer for winter.

Poured from a 330 mL bottle into a Duvel tulip. Moderate hand. Label reads 050619. Ice bock for a snowy day!

A: Murky, iced-tea brown with 1/2 finger off-white head. Ok retention. Minimal lacing.

S: Banana, molasses, sugar, spice, dark fruit, raisin, rum cake. Booze. Smells big. There's something familiar, but I can't put my finger on it... Anyway, good stuff.

T: Strong, rich sweetness with wheat-type undertones. Cherry, raisin & dates. Banana. Mild spice. A faint bitterness develops to assist the semi-dry finish. Faint chocolate. Alcohol is present, but not quite what you would expect for 12% ABV.

M: Moderate carbonation with a full-ish body. Smooth and rich.

O: Big beer. Tasty. Damn sweet, but not cloying. Much like you would expect of a concentrated Aventinus weizenbock. Delicious snowy day sipper.

A- Dark amber, a nice caramel color. Clear.
S- A little skunky, but I get some nice caramel and wheaty tones. I'd actually go with a little sulfur and spicy, alcoholic tones. Interesting...
T- A nice sweet caramel flavor. The spice covers up the alcohol bite for a minute, but then the alcohol heat comes through. HELLO 12%!
M- LIght bodied. Lager-like and appropriate.
O- Not my favorite, but that doesn't matter. According to the style I feel like they did a good job covering up a 12% beer while keeping it light bodied. I'd say the nose could use a little clean up with a dry hop, but that would be against the style; I'd do it anyway though.

This big hearty brew lived in the fridge for quite some time before hitting the glass ... I figured this one could handle a little aging. Bought a bottle in Edmonton and basically forgot about it for a while. Purple label and dark-looking contents recall a bottle of prune juice, which in fact jives fairly well with what this heavy hitter tastes like. A lot better and more interesting than prune juice per se but that's one element in the flavor profile. Quite an impressive tan head forms as you pour, and I was immediately struck by the color: Its lighter than expected, a reddish copper/orange darkening to brown. The rich sweet aroma included plums, fresh Concord grape juice (not present in Aventinus proper), rum, treacle, and dark bread, with the overall effect evoking port wine or cask-aged rum. Palate was one for the ages, a ton of different dark, sweet, tangy, and bitter elements that vie for one's attention. Banana and bubble gum fruit esters make their requisite appearance along with a shit ton of clove and cinnamon spice notes; I lost the former sweet fruit notes about halfway through my glass but the spice remained steadfast. Some mild acidity almost like red currants and then a huge aromatic alcohol burn like that found in many tripels warms the mouth and gathers steam over the course of the journey. Whoa. Numbing primes the palate for an onslaught of bitter and earthy yet somehow still sweet flavors that recall doughy black licorice (remember those licorice pipes with the red sprinkles on the end to simulate fire?) ... Potent raisin, prune, and sweet bread pudding flavors work well with a somewhat buttery or creamy mouthfeel that coats the entire palate. Some tobacco leaf emerges late. There was a notable quantity of brown sediment at the bottom of the glass that looked like wet cigar. Didn't sample this, sorry. All in all a pretty heady experience, one I'd certainly repeat but only as a rare treat. Freezing and concentrating the original Aventinus brings out additional earthy, bitter, herbal, and spicy components and the fruit is downplayed, with what remains of the latter moving firmly into raisin/date territory rather than banana. Should be on any dark sweet beer freak's bucket list and not particularly hard to find.
