330ml bottle into a pint glass. 2009 vintage.

Pours a very dark and hazy brown with a thin ring of carbonation that holds around the edge of the glass.

Aroma is full of molasses and brown sugar along with figs and prunes. Not really any alcohol detectable but plenty of malt.

The flavor explodes with dark fruit and molasses. Raisins and figs are most prominent. These transition into wood and pipe tobacco finishing out with a touch of coffee. Alcohol is present as can be expected with a beer of this strength, but is never overpowering. Mouthfeel is full and quite thick, almost syrupy.

Overall this is really great beer. The flavors are especially concentrated compared to the standard Aventinus and it is really quite drinkable.

This beer's aromas are it's sticking points. Orange zest, coriander, cloves all seep through. Transfers nicely to taste buds, definitely taste that clove after all is said and done. Spicy!

Really like how the head sticks around, too. Poured from 500ml bottle into mug.

Pours a woody, ruby haze with a short-lived fizzy cap of a tan head. The nose is quite sweet - cherries, candied sugar, malted wheat, bit of booze - rather pleasant. The taste carries a lot of the same qualities and the alcohol is well masked/incorporated. Not all that drinkable but about as easy-drinking as you could hope for at this ABV.

my first eisbock, not sure if i'm ready for it. here goes.

Quite a beautiful looking brew. Deep deep amber in color, almost purple like with no visibility through the liquid. Surprisingly, a rather large head forms of an off white color. Dissipates quickly to a thin lace. Smells like a typical weizen bock but with a bit of alcohol present. Clove banana bread and bubble gum are all there along with some dark fruit bowl scents.

Wow surprisingly beer like in quality. High carbonation. Thought the freezing of the water out wouldve made this taste less beer like but it really just tastes like schneider aventinus on crack. Big dark fruit and clove presence with a big banana finish. Overall spicy from start to finish with hidden phenolics and a touch of booze. Overall though pretty awesome. I think i like this more than the standard aventinus. Drinks more like a strong belgian dark ale than anything. I'm impressed with this beer making method and it's tastiness. 12% alcohol? Maybe, but i'll drink it like its 5%.

very spicy, just a warning. (not hot, clove spice)

tastes like a huge weizen bock, not bad.

2011 vintage, don't know what I had been saving this for...

Pours a deep mahogany color with an interesting off-white head; very fluffy with large bubbles amidst a typical pillowy head.

Nose; sugar plums, cloves, and a rich fruitiness.
Taste; dried fruits; plums, raisins, brown sugar, cane sugar, candied oranges, cloves, and caramel round out the taste.
Mouthfeel; slick yet crisp with a steady carbonation.

Overall; absolutely wonderful. Can't wait to go to Germany in a few weeks and bring back as much of this beer as physically possible.

A: Very dark caramel. Head like the surface of the moon. Fine bubbles puckered with bigger bubbles. Goes down fairly quickly. Mushroom colour works beautifully with the body colour. Classy looking.

S: Strong wheat beer banana flavour plus cloves, rum, caramel and marzipan. Christmas pudding. Beautiful.

T: Banana, marzipan and dried fruit flavours are very upfront. Sweet and sticky but balanced. Loads of Christmas pudding. Strong tasting but immensily quaffable. A nice big belch releases more Christmas pudding. It's a bold Belgian on steroids.

M: Nice and sticky with a Weizenbier texture.

O: One of the best beers I've ever had. It has all the flavour of a dark bold Belgian with the texture of a German Weizen. It's actually ruined the Belgian quadrupel/strong dark ale for me. If you don't like this beer I don't like you.

A: A hazy dark brown with a thick tan colored head.

S: Banana, bubble gum, clove, toasted malt, and booze.

T: Initial flavors are of sweet booze and clove spice. This fades into a banana fruit flavor and eventually into a faded clove and alcohol burn. As it warms, a vanilla flavor starts to come through.

M: Heavy and a little syrupy, yet smooth. Burn from the alcohol.

O: I've never had an Eisbock before, so I've nothing to compare to. However, the beer is full of great aromas and flavors. I would definitely pick this up again...especially if I find it for $4.99 on sale again. I think I would clean them out.
